Just seen Sid passed away a couple of weeks ago, for me one of the finest Refs we have had on these shores.
Less is more when he ref''d no leaping around the ring like a cat on a hot plate, he would walk around giving instructions when needed, and getting the stoppages just right. And not standing for any nonsense in the ring, the boxers.
RIP
Sid Nathan RIP
Re: Sid Nathan RIP
Nice and very respectfully warm and long Obit for Sid in this week's Boxing News....good to see and deserved
Very much a son of the proud East End Jewish boxing tradition; tough, hard guys who embraced the sport as fighters, trainers, managers and refs and made it their route to get on in life in terms of being respected and earning a better living.
Jack Solomons, Kid Berg, Mickey Duff, Ted Lewis all part of that unique fighting tradition of poor Jewish immigrant, fighting men from London.
Sid was probably the last of his kind and a top class ref to boot.

1300 fights I believe in a 30 year career and worked his way to the very top of our tree.
Sid has lived a long life finally succumbing at the age of 93.
