Hearn - Warren

Post by fightfan95 »

There has been a few comments here and there between these guys. Yes, it's pathetic - but I do find it hilarious and entertaining to watch the interviews (especially on IFLTV) but who do you like more or do you dislike both?

Never had anything to do with Hearn. I doubt I'd gel with him at all as I've never met an Essex boy who wasn't a complete knob. Had a few dealings with FW back in the day and he was sound enough.

W@rren has always come across as a decent fella in the interviews I've seen with him.
Hearn isn't the worst but he is full of himself.
I must say in the war of the boxing promoters I do back W@rren...

If I were a professional boxer I think I'd rather be with Hearn. Both of them are knobheads in their own special way though.

Boxing seemed more fun under warren for me. Under Hearn it's so corporate and media trained that it doesn't seem to have room to breath. As a character I prefer frank, tho if I was in the business obv I wouldn't trust him as car as I could throw him

I'd put Hearns dad in with Warren, similar type of old school tell it as it is type.

Not sure what happened with his son right enough

Barry Hearn does not tell it how it is, he's a complete bullshitter.

What I don't like is this whole Team Hearn / Team allegedly mentality that has sprung up on social media and boxing forums over the past 5 years. Grown men who seem obsessed cheerleading their favourite promoter and posting everything they can to talk down the other. Hearn fans continually saying B0xnati0n is on the brink of collapse, allegedly fans hoping Eddie's PPV's fail, Hearn fans calling allegedly a bitter old man, allegedly fans calling Hearn a liar, Hearn fans hoping allegedly's card fall apart, allegedly fans hoping Eddie can't deliver the big fights and people happy when fighters lose fights because of who they are promoted by.

Thankfully Boxrec isn't too bad when compared to some of the bile spouted on other forums. Nothing wrong with being critical about things your not happy about but some of the stuff is petty, illinformed, imature, embarrasing, hateful and borderline obsessive. Some of these guys are posting this stuff almost everyday. Who has the energy to continually pursue a grudge against someone they, in most cases, don't know personally and have never met? It's sad.

I like allegedly because I've been watching boxing for 30 years and remember most of the fight nights I really enjoyed he put together. I'm not 100% sold on Hearn yet. Most of my burning issues are more to do with the broadcaster behind Hearn rather than Hearn or what he is doing. I don't think SKY are offering up good value for money, their commentary is poor, their pundits are not great, they don't show enough international action plus they go way over the top at times when backing one of their fighters. Overall I think Eddie and Fr&nk are doing a pretty good job keeping live action on our screens almost every single week.

Prefer Barry to Eddie. Both he and Fwanky had to work their way up.

All promoters are in it for themselves though.

I don't really understand the silver spoon stuff. Sure Eddie benefitted from his dad but at least he's forging a bit for himself. Fwankys boys are still being fed with their silver spoon from daddy!!!

As people, I have no idea, but I quite like them both for different reasons.

But if I was a pro boxer, it would be a no-brainer - say what you like about Camp Eddie, but he really does seem to care about his stable and I've not heard any complaints about being paid...

I like the way Warren comes across these days on ifilm and I respect the way he is fighting to stay in the game against the odds. But I lost a lot of respect for him in the stuff that came out in the Sports network / Joe calzaghe civil case.

Frank just can't offer his fighters the level of exposure, opportunity and money that Hearn and Sky can offer. I feel that Frank's success is always going to be limited by his lack of exposure. But at least he's not thrown in the towel.

Good luck to them both. Though I don't like the power that Sky has given to Hearn. Hearn is smug with this fact, with I dislike.

I'd much prefer if sky chose to work with all promoters and cherry picked the best shows, which would likely encourage competition and increase quality whilst offering a fair and level playing field.

Yeah short memories from some people here IMO..... When I see allegedly I always think of what he treated Setanta cos they dared to show British boxing from another promoter. Got out of his deal through by saying Setanta signed with Sports Network and not him.

I very much personally think allegedly started only because he couldn't get exclusive with Sky.

Yes, and the Setanta business. Those two things - one was nasty, the other one just throwing the toys out of the pram.

Nothing that's been mentioned and it'd be everywhere if someone hadn't been paid and anyone found out about it. Only fighter I can remember not being paid in full is Ricky Burns after they wound the company up, other than that any other claims have been of fighters being paid late, rather than not at all. Last accusation I can remember is Bundu from a couple of years ago and they responded to that one and said that he was being paid as agreed with his manager. Woodhouse is still bitter as fornicate over that, hates Fwank, B0xnati0 n and usually slags his fighters off too, all over being paid late years ago.

Think he got paid in the end, was sat next to Warren at Cleverly-Kovalev and they seemed friendly. Can't imagine anyone being like that with someone that owed them nearly 2 million quid.

I dont know how it ended between them personally but following the judgment sports network folded owing Calzaghe his purse from the Hopkins fight. It would be interesting to hear calzaghe's take on it.

The case is interesting reading including warren trying to get calzaghe to sign a promotional contract extension in the changing room minutes before a world title fight.

He definitely didn't get it from Sports Network but there's plenty of other ways of paying. Wouldn't be hard to use the court ruling to wind the company up saying that they're unable to pay, possibly wiping out other debts in the process, then pay Calzaghe in some other way. Been no official statement on it but he doesn't seem that interested in boxing so to turn up to Fwank's show, even if it was for his mate, then sit next to him doesn't seem right if he still owed him money, could easily have sat somewhere else.

Dislike both, but I'd wager that Warren has screwed over more boxers regarding payments than Hearn has
