However, we really don't know if he had a Tex Cobb/George Chuvalo type chin. He simply didn't have enough fights. (Atleast on record). If Jeffries did have that kind of chin, he could last 15 rounds, but Dempsey would win by decision. (Of course, if the fight was scheduled for 45 rounds like some of his, Jeffries could concievably win.
The most likely outcome would be would be Dempsey chopping Jeffries down and winning by ko in 7-10 rounds, though Jeffries may knock Dempsey down once or twice. It would be interesting to watch.
Jeff went a total of 45 rounds with Sailor Tom Sharkey, one of the hardest punchers the division has seen, caroming blows off his chin. This is the same Tom Sharkey that floored Fitzsimmons, Corbett(almost KOing him), Peter Maher and KO'd Gus Ruhlin, Joe Choynski, Fred Russell and Kid McCoy with single blows.
Jeff also took on Choynski when he'd had les than 10 fights(this is the same Choynski who later KO'd Jack Johnson with a single punch). Joe was in his prime and hit Jeff with everything but the kitchen sink. He tore Jeff's lips open, but still couldn't floor or seriously hurt him.
He too everything the devastating Fitzsimmons could throw at him as well. Fitz broke his fists on Jeff's jaw.
Wanna know how high a regard Jeffries was held in? Sam Langford ran an ad challenging- and I quote- "Any fighter in the world except Jim Jeffries"
Sorry, if I came off that I didn't think highly of Jeffries. In fact, recently there was a topic on underrated fighters and I mentioned him.
I just don't think that standing up to tom Sharkey is as difficult as standing up to Dempsey's shots. Maybe Jeffries could have taken Dempsey's best shots, we will never know.
It is hard to imagine him standing up to shot after from Dempsey. Dempsey threw a lot punches and he wouldn't have had a lot of trouble landing. I do think that Jeffries was probably one of th top 15 of all time, but I just don't think he would have a good chance against Dempsey, though it probably wouldn't be an easy fight for Dempsey.

Why wouldn't Jeffries stand up to Dempseys punches?. People here are heavuly over estimating Dempsey while underrating Jeffries. Jeffries had an iron chin, even Johnson couldn't score a clean ko over him when he was a washed up 36 year old. Of the two Jeffries had the better chin by far and also the far better stamina. Jeffries was also a much better fighter skill wise than he is given credit for here....
Silkov, I found the picture of Jose Napoles knocking Ralph Charles down and out. I compared Napoles' legs with Charles' legs and I saw Charles' legs are very long. Ralph Charles must be very tall, how tall do you think is he about 5 foot 11 inches or 6 feet tall?
I think Jeffries is understudied, and underated. I'm not going to say who would win, I have to think about it. But it's no slam dunk. Dempsy is overstudied and slightly overated. I'm leaning Jeffries at first blush.
