Errol Spence makes easy work of Chris Algieri

Post by Kalan »

This puts Canelo Alvarez’s cherry picked Amir Khan into prospective — because Algieri fought an even fight with Khan and Khan was forced to hold and wrestle all night long… Khan can’t box and can’t punch. Errol Spence can do both. I would love to see the day Khan, Bradley, Maidana, Pacquiao, or Vargas step up to fight Errol Spence, but they KNOW they’d get CREAMED!!! … and Floyd couldn’t even take out or knock down cherry pick Andre Berto - who was beaten 3 times and knocked down 6 times in his 6 previous fights.

I think you CREAMED your pants.

Algieri was supposed to lose. He's a gatekeeper that poses less threat than Malignaggi did.

We already knew spence was good, doing his thing vs Algieri doesn't change much. Not convinced he beats Brook.

I like Spence.

It's a shame he's stuck in the division with boxing's biggest collection of duckers and cherry pickers so it's going to be unlikely we get to see him face the divisions best.

Brook will soon be in the position to either fight Spence or drop the belt. I hope he takes the fight and we can better judge just how good Spence is.

I don't think it's a big deal that he beat him, but more the way he beat him. Chris is a good measuring stick in gauging the elite. We all knew Errol was the goods before Algeri. His performance against Chris showed just how good he is. He can hang, and probably beat anyone in his weight division. Looking forward in seeing his matchmaking from here on out.

Spence should try to get a title shot by the end of the year. Typical of todays top ranking boxers, Spence probably thinks he's on a 2 fight a year program now and will expect a world title shot by the end of the year without fighting for a minor title beforehand.

Imo the way he beat Algeri is most impressive. I wasnt really a Spence Fan before yesterday but the way he took out Algeri last nite makes me think he could be that dude. He attacks the body fiercely and has good speed n pop. Defense seems adequate but need to see more of him vs top level competition

Spence still has questions to answer. How will he react when someone with power, Algieri has no power, hits him. Easy to steamroll through someone when you have no respect for your opponents power. Spence looked impressive last night but lets see what happens when he has a gut check.

Spence is technically better right now than those three (Provo, Pac, Khan) were when they fought Chris.

When Errol gets Algieri hurt, you can bet that will be the beginning of a certain end.

Kid knows when and how to finish.

Algieri will be him serving notice as to exactly who he is: Floyd and Pac's heir.

Any ideas why Spence's loss in the Olympic quarter-final is nowhere to be found ?

If everything goes as planned it might be a few years before someone like Spence gets a title shot.

I will be interested to see if he can knock out a couple of more good fighters, but guys who aren't truly a threat to beat him, if he will start generating the same kind of threads that GGG does...kind of a social experiment...

He's not there with his resume yet, but two or three wins against recognizable names from the 2nd tier and we'll have ourselves a sociological experiment...

it's all there is, I don't see a fight with one of the top 4 happening any time soon...tho I would love to be wrong about that.

Honest question for those who follow such things, it appears Thurman, Porter, and Spence are all PBC guys, is something standing in the way of Spence and the winner of Thurman/Porter? I'm guessing too much risk for the money on all sides...

Spence looked the business and had it going on, his speed and timing were impressive and his accuracy and placement of punches was superb.
He should be proud of that performance because in my book what he currently has is easily worthy of challenging the medium to lower level top 10 147 crowd.
Good performance all round.

Which is why Thurman and the rest of them won't bother to go near him nor call him out like they do to others.

Why should belt holders or people who are ranked ahead of him call him out? It's the just job of the lower ranked fighter to call out the higher ranked fighters not the opposite.

He called out Thurman last year to no avail. Floyd was even trying to get it done. He'd hop on a plane to fight Brook tomorrow.
