Chris Algieri
Re: Chris Algieri
I would tell Algeri to go back down to 140.
Re: Chris Algieri
He probably earned enough money to go back to normal life before getting damaged.babyjesus wrote:I would tell Algeri to go back down to 140.

I think it's quite obvious that you are quite biased by the way you addressed pacquaio and Bradley, pacquaio stopped cotto, Oscar and many others that mayweather didn't, that really doesn't count for much, time will tellLancenix wrote:I think when we take a look at what he did to Algeri vs. what Kahn and Pacman did and you look at the skill set for me it is easy to see that Spence would dominate that little Filipino smurf or the fraud that is Bradley. It would take a big WW to give him a good battle like Brook.Pureist wrote:He beat algieri, still a very large gap between algieri and elite, I think a few are getting ahead of themselves here

Yeah, I think he's made enough to hang 'em up.ikorolev wrote:He probably earned enough money to go back to normal life before getting damaged.babyjesus wrote:I would tell Algeri to go back down to 140.
I sure hope so, 'cause he's done.
Whatever chin he had going into the Provodnikov fight is long gone.
It took heaps of abuse in three long, hard fights with the Pac & Khan fights following closely behind.
After getting bounced off the canvas repeatedly in those bouts, but going all 36 rounds, Spence didn't so much bounce Algieri off the canvas like the previous fighter as hammer him into it. It was ugly.
There's no reason Algieri should ever fight again.
Re: Chris Algieri
Yes, Pac beat weight drained versions of Oscar and Cotto. Mayweather didn't fight them when they were 145lbs. Spence would KO either easily if they were in same condition. Mayweather had a different style of winning and was not a big puncher.Pureist wrote:I think it's quite obvious that you are quite biased by the way you addressed pacquaio and Bradley, pacquaio stopped cotto, Oscar and many others that mayweather didn't, that really doesn't count for much, time will tellLancenix wrote:I think when we take a look at what he did to Algeri vs. what Kahn and Pacman did and you look at the skill set for me it is easy to see that Spence would dominate that little Filipino smurf or the fraud that is Bradley. Lance is right on the money I think saying he would beat Manny or Bradley down. I also agree that Brook, being a much bigger and skilled welter would be more of a challenge...hopefully we get to see that before Brook moves up. I would also love to see Spence vs the winner of Thurman vs Porter. Spence isn't there just yet, but definitely on his way. He did do what Pac or Khan couldn't, and think Khan was lucky to get the W.

Is Khan elite? If so Algieri didn't seem far offPureist wrote:He beat algieri, still a very large gap between algieri and elite, I think a few are getting ahead of themselves here

I do not think he could make 140 anymore. He would have to kill himself. I do not think he will fight at 140 again.babyjesus wrote:I would tell Algeri to go back down to 140.
Re: Chris Algieri
Don't want to hear about weight drained excuses, they took the fight, their problem, exactly why I see GGG as being smart, pacquaio hasn't had the killer instinct for 3-4 years now, algieri was a still target RIGHT IN FRONT of spence, movement is a defence in itself for elite fighters, algieri couldn't punch his way out of a wet paper bag, algieri was only a step up from Spencer's previous opponents, still has a way to goBadhusker wrote:Yes, Pac beat weight drained versions of Oscar and Cotto. Re: Chris Algieri
Algieri has a masters degree and would do fine in whatever profession he enters or continues with outside of boxing. He has made good money in his last 4 fights. The sad reality is he'll probably keep boxing as long as some promotor offers him another good payday but at this point there won't be many if any of those left. Boxing is a hurt game and stick around long enough you end up damage goods.sweetviolenturge wrote:Yeah, I think he's made enough to hang 'em up.ikorolev wrote:He probably earned enough money to go back to normal life before getting damaged.babyjesus wrote:I would tell Algeri to go back down to 140.

Yes, and by normal life I didn't mean spending all day entertaining himself. He got a masters degree, so he can go back to a normal career not worrying about student loans, mortgages, etc.man wrote:you really think he did?ikorolev wrote:He probably earned enough money to go back to normal life before getting damaged.babyjesus wrote:I would tell Algeri to go back down to 140.

settled for life ...
Re: Chris Algieri
Why wouldn't he be? I seem to remember him making ~1.5M for Pac. Assuming he walked away with half of that, it is an awfully good start. I don't know what he got for provo, but he got $500k for khan and $325k for fighting spence. I would assume even with taxes and all the other fees he has had to pay, he should have well over $1M in his bank account. I mean, he may need to keep a part time job as a trainer or whatever, but he is essentially set for life.

He's a smart kid. Did well in college. Unlike most fighters he'll do just fine.
Re: Chris Algieri
Hopefully, Provo, Manny, Khan and Spence didn't do much damage to his brain.Tony1244 wrote:man wrote:wow. i'm happy for him.jockpunk wrote:Why wouldn't he be? Re: Chris Algieri
Talented fighter who has done himself proud especially with no Amateur boxing experience plenty of heart to go with his dream.
Re: Chris Algieri
Gene Tunney was smart too, still smart after he retired, and had almost 3 times as many fights with much bigger punchers than Algieri has encountered. Now we are worried about brain damage with less than 25 fights?
