Was that about the time he mentioned in every interview that he didn't like talking about his boxers going 50 fights unbeaten?Stuarty30 wrote:It's this kind of dickheadery that makes Joe look like a prize twat.rio wrote:Anyone see the interview where he compared his gym (which is actually khan gym) to the kronk back in the day! That was a good record, but when you look at his boxers being full time boxers working with a big promoter with a guaranteed fight date against lower level opposition the record does not stand up to scrutiny.
Re: Gallagher fighters in big fights
I have a feeling Crolla's gonna lose that fight. It's more based on the fact that 2016 doesnt seem like Gallaghers year so far more than anything though.DMA1987 wrote:Crolla?
Gallagher tends to be called a tactical genius is one fight and clueless in the next.
Re: Gallagher fighters in big fights
John Murray was boxing at Northside till he was 18 before that Shannon's gym

Rio, who was Gallagher with for Murray v Crolla?rio wrote:Off the top of my head here are the big fights against top fighters from the division hes been involved in:

Record: 0-2
Macklin vs sturm
Record: 0-1
John Murray vs Rios, mitchell
Record: 0-2
Crolla vs perez
Record: 1-0-1
That's a record of 1-11 with 1 draw when his fighters step up. Trainer of the year my a**e!
I have no idea but if he was in either fighters corner shouldn't it be included in this list?

So if we are going from who brings them through from the moment they walk into an amateur gym then that rules out virtually every trainer in the world.pimp wrote:John Murray was boxing at Northside till he was 18 before that Shannon's gym

He was at Northside as well for a good few years
Re: Gallagher fighters in big fights
I dislike Tesco Joe and find his interviews nauseating in the extreme. His comments after the Quigg/Frampton fight were ludicrous and I think he is vastly overrated by many. However, the criticism over his lack of guiding someone from scratch (kid to world champion) is a bit unnecessary. He is a professional trainer with a large camp, I would not expect him to be down the Generic ABC every Tuesday and Thursday working with a bunch of ten year olds.
We can list his shortfalls and explain his deficiencies without having to drag in stuff that is not really fair comment. Weakens a strong argument when hater BS is thrown in on top. Less is more.

Re: Gallagher fighters in big fights
It's easy to list shortfalls and deficiencies but at the end of the day a trainer is really only as good as his boxer. The greatest trainer of all time isn't making the majority of fighters world champions because they're simply not good enough. The greatest trainers were in a position to choose who they trained in the end, and that's the significant difference. Joe can only train who comes to him, I'm sure he'd love to train a Mayweather, they're just aren't many walking round Manchester.tobyh5 wrote:I dislike Tesco Joe and find his interviews nauseating in the extreme. Firmly in Camp Crolla; Murray had well and truly sacked him off by then.Taansend wrote:Rio, who was Gallagher with for Murray v Crolla?rio wrote:Off the top of my head here are the big fights against top fighters from the division hes been involved in:

Quite a few of the fights you listed were British/European level fights at the time they happened, if you count them you should really count the victories his fighters had at that sort of level also.rio wrote:Off the top of my head here are the big fights against top fighters from the division hes been involved in:

But I take your point, Gallaghers record at world level isn't great.

Personally I cannot stand Gallagher. He is an arrogant twat that wants to be all about him just look at how he was trying to claim the prize place at the weigh in v Frampton. Sometimes he just lacks the respect to others he demands.
I also wonder if the reason why his fighters fail at top level is because he is in the corner for at least 1 other fight that night.
I also think Stephen Smith going over to America with a week to go was probably not the best prep for a world title fight surely 3/4 weeks before the fight would get him adjusted, settled and still training hard

I reckon it'll be much higher than 50%, more like 90%.bripez wrote:Therefore Gallagher should have at least a 50% success rate?keithmoonhangover wrote:Amazing fact #76. 50% of all boxers in big fights lose.
I don't know Gallagher or anyone connected with his gym at all but he gets some shocking abuse on this forum - much of it childish.
He can come across a bit spikey in interviews but who honestly gives a toss? Who on here does it effect?
I'm not saying he's faultless - there are obviously legitimate critisisms regarding Quigg v Frampton for example. Nowt wrong in disagreeing with tactics but it's like a teenage girl bitchfest sometimes!

I was here during Paul Smith's short time posting here and it was embarrassing. Obviously all us fans know best, pity none of us move into boxing full time and show them how it should be done!

Re: Gallagher fighters in big fights
Crolla's fights with Rees, Murray and Morris were all 50 / 50 fights beforehand and he won all 3 of them, Burton v Shinkwin was a 50 / 50 fight, Smith v Buckland etc. He had Hosea Burton and John Murray as kids, took a fighter Levi Tute from novice to 2 national schoolboy titles also
Re: Gallagher fighters in big fights
definitely agree with all thats said here
he was clueless in the frampton-quigg fight and it do seem that when his fighters are up against it and not backed heavily as favourites they take a loss

Re: Gallagher fighters in big fights
Joe Gallagher is one of if not thee most intolerable man in world boxing. Never trained an actual world champion until last year where Crolla and Liam Smith picked up titles against less than elite level fighters, Smith effectively handed the belt. Joe seems to make it all about him getting involved with trainers and making a laugh of himself he ensures he is the main attraction and not his fighters as was the case with Frampton-Quigg and Shane McGuigan as well as countless others I could list if anyone wants. His tactics are abysmal again I'll take the Frampton-Quigg fight as the example Quigg didn't throw a punch for 7/8 rounds and by the time he applied pressure the fight was won and his jaw was broke. While he returned to the corner after the midpoint of the fight where he informed Quigg, Sky which are famous for their bias scorecards (enter Halling and Watt) that he was six down and Quigg looked genuinely shocked. Callum Smith has talent I would question his jab but if he wants to truly fulfil his potential he needs to ditch Joe.

Hosea Burton was an odds on favourite with the bookies for that one. You can't deny he's had success domestically, but what about at a higher level?Manchester Massive wrote:Crolla's fights with Rees, Murray and Morris were all 50 / 50 fights beforehand and he won all 3 of them, Burton v Shinkwin was a 50 / 50 fight, Smith v Buckland etc. He had Hosea Burton and John Murray as kids, took a fighter Levi Tute from novice to 2 national schoolboy titles also
