Canelo by KO followed by Brook doing the same. Few mill richer, can retire and talk about Floyd ducking him then
Is Khan TWO fights away from being an ATG??

Re: Is Khan TWO fights away from being an ATG??
Mick Jelley says that Canelo Alvarez can’t box. Yet Matthew Hatton Ryan Rhodes and the trainer who cornered Ricky Burns for Crawford (forget his name momentarily..) all say he can whilst Rhodes goes as far as saying he’s one of the greats.
Someone’s wrong
I saw some footage of Saul landing some cracking shots on Cotto and not many come out on top in that trade-off.
What concerns Jelley (Khan’s old am coach) is the 12 months out the ring. What concerns me is that, plus the way Khan faded badly against Julio Diaz. Altho I’m not writing him off yet. I do expect him to be super fit and raring to go. He could potentially make the Mexican look SLOW.

Khan has height, reach and speed and should be really strong at the weight, I think he will box Alvarez's head off personally.magwitch wrote:Mick Jelley says that Canelo Alvarez can’t box. Alvarez is a good fighter but Khan is really all wrong for him - as for Rhodes saying that (and I really like Ryan, such a nice, personable, decent human being) but he would say that, wouldn't he?

Nice to see some positivity for Khan. I’ve seen none anywhere yet.
Think everyone would accept that due to SA’s power (so strong according to Hatton and Rhodes and he comes in much bigger than the day before) Khan must be at pretty much his best....but as you say, Khan should be in great shape with those extra pounds for manouvre.

Re: Is Khan TWO fights away from being an ATG??
I think he will just use his speed and movement like he did against Maidana. There is a chance that Alvarez will catch him or bully him into the ropes and corners but I think... Khan is going to be too smart, too fast and too mobile. He is going to take this pretty handily.magwitch wrote:Sure, regarding RhodesFat Git wrote:Khan has height, reach and speed and should be really strong at the weight, I think he will box Alvarez's head off personally.magwitch wrote:Mick Jelley says that Canelo Alvarez can’t box. Re: Is Khan TWO fights away from being an ATG??
Khan hasn't won a world title fight since July 2011 (almost 5 years). Since then 10st fighters like Garcia and Peterson proved too strong for him. Some people seem to be going a little overboard with his ability.

It proves nothing, he might perform better at the higher weight, of course, he might not be able to transfer his strengths up to the higher weight and get knocked out - I don't rate Alvarez all that highly (or not as highly as some of you on here anyway) he is a good fighter, but the reason he get's all this publicity in my opinion is because he is a Mexican with ginger hair.BigDoofus wrote:Khan hasn't won a world title fight since July 2011 (almost 5 years). I agree-some major overrating of Khan is happening.BigDoofus wrote:Khan hasn't won a world title fight since July 2011 (almost 5 years). Since then 10st fighters like Garcia and Peterson proved too strong for him. Some people seem to be going a little overboard with his ability.
It's not just like Garcia and Peterson troubled him....guys like Algeiri and Diaz were able to do it too. Khan is fast but he's not a particularly smart boxer and has been effectively timed by significantly slower opponents on multiple occasions. He may have a few good rounds (as he did before getting timed and splattered by Garcia), but I can't see him doing much more than that.

Not really, but then, not getting down to 140/10 stones might make Khan a lot more sturdy in the legs - sometimes, the move on up makes a tall fighter more effective, for example - Thomas Hearns. I fancy Khan's chances, you don't? I understand that, let's wait until fight night.BigDoofus wrote:Do you rate Prescott, Peterson and Garcia?Fat Git wrote: I don't rate Alvarez all that highly (or not as highly as some of you on here anyway) he is a good fighter, but the reason he get's all this publicity in my opinion is because he is a Mexican with ginger hair.

Double ditto.jamesmcdonnell wrote:DittoSNG wrote:Pretty much everything wrong with the mindset of current boxing fans. Alas Khan won't fight GGG, and no, he never will be an ATG.
As ludicrous as the idea of Khan beating him in the first place.

It's a bit mental isn't it?BigDoofus wrote:Khan hasn't won a world title fight since July 2011 (almost 5 years). Since then 10st fighters like Garcia and Peterson proved too strong for him. Some people seem to be going a little overboard with his ability.
Somehow moving up in weight, he's going to be this super powerful, slick, lightning fast boxing machine, despite the fact he's been chinned heavily by much smaller men and overwhelmed by pressure fighters.
Canelo is I think going to brutalise and stop Khan. Amir will do well the first couple of rounds, he may even make Canelo look silly for a little while, but he'll never be able to keep up the frantic pace he will need to set to stay away from Canelo's power shots, and he will slow, as he has done many times before - once he does, he'll get chopped down by the hooks to the body, and dispatched somewhere inside of 9 rounds.

Khan is not smart AT ALL. He has no mental resources to draw on when the going get's tough.crusader wrote:I agree-some major overrating of Khan is happening.BigDoofus wrote:Khan hasn't won a world title fight since July 2011 (almost 5 years). I mean you only need to hear him speak to realise there's very little behind the eyes, he can barely string a coherent sentence together.
Re: Is Khan TWO fights away from being an ATG??
More like 1 fight away from a serious decline in mental capacity. I really hope it doesn't come to that and I will be supporting him to last 5 rounds at least.
Re: Is Khan TWO fights away from being an ATG??
I used to like Khan once upon a time but I've been going off him more in recent years. Ill be supporting him in this one though. He's obviously being well paid but it's a bold move. Have to favour Canelo but Khan is a live opponent. If it goes in to the later rounds it could end up a close fight. Would imagine Canelo will get the nod if it's close though.MecnunK wrote:More like 1 fight away from a serious decline in mental capacity. I think in that case he should be officially rated as God Almighty.tobyh5 wrote:If he pulled off that double, well damn I am unsure how he would be rated but christ, it would be ATG and HOF worthy surely

Top 10 of all time King Khan!
Re: Is Khan TWO fights away from being an ATG??
Are you saying that a 140lb guy moving up to 147 then 155/160 and beating Canelo and then Golovkin should not be in the Hall? ATG may be a stretch, but depends where you draw the lineTarkus wrote:I think in that case he should be officially rated as God Almighty.tobyh5 wrote:If he pulled off that double, well damn I am unsure how he would be rated but christ, it would be ATG and HOF worthy surely

I meant quite the opposite, no irony. It would be a miracle. Wish Cotto, Alvarez, and now Khan would stop playing with the middleweight title.
