Facing Golovkin
What it's like to face Golovkin in the ring - boxers who fought or sparred (Canelo Geale Proksa Stevens etc) Super G share insights - http://spam.com/2016/04/18/facing-golovkin/
Rubin Williams: “He hits like a ton of bricks. I sparred him and packed my bags and left. There’s a lot of weight behind his punches. You’d think he weighs 250 pounds.”
Curtis Stephens: “Well, it was fun. Obviously he beat me but it was a great fight. For how long it lasted. I was surprised by his poise, how calm he was.”
Question: Which of your tactics were successful? Did you find any chinks in his armor?
“Just you gotta pressure him. Let your hands go.” (cont)

I don't know if we can trust that but Darnell Boone who was Golovkin's sparring partner and fought Kovalev twice says that Golovkin hits as hard in 16-ounce gloves, as Kovalev in 10-ounce ones. Probably exaggeration, but he was clearly impressed with Gennady's power.

Ola Afolabi said Golovkin hits like a heavyweight.

Unusual style to his rips with his palm facing down but can't argue about their effectiveness

He must do it for a reason and it is obviously effective , it looks like he is corkscrewing his punches to make the moment of impact last longerPureist wrote:Unusual style to his rips with his palm facing down but can't argue about their effectiveness
Boxing is very wearing on the shoulder joints , so far GGG appears to have held up well to the toll this sport takes on the body.

Saw GGG train once and he does a lot of stretching for his shoulder - Lennox did too - both have exceptional flexibility in the shoulder area -

Stevens said Allan Green hit harder than G - wonder what his power feels like -
Re: Facing Golovkin
Green has 22 stoppages in 37 fights, and Stevens didn't fight him. Typical bullsh!t statement.montrealsuper wrote:Stevens said Allan Green hit harder than G - wonder what his power feels like -

Re: Facing Golovkin
Well he surely sparred with Green - just like Olafabi and Rubin Williams did spar GGG and they felt his power and said it was HWT power - could also be a case of Stevens downplaying a great white fighter to build up a good black fighter (agenda) -

I never trust what boxers say about other boxers.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: boxer's statements on other boxers is like listening to women talk about other women. It's a popularity contest.
Re: Facing Golovkin
A lot of boxers aren't honest when it comes to guys that beat them. It's quite common for a boxer to say their toughest opponent was one they beat comfortably rather than one that dominated them.
Re: Facing Golovkin
why don't they just measure that. iikorolev wrote:I don't know if we can trust that but Darnell Boone who was Golovkin's sparring partner and fought Kovalev twice says that Golovkin hits as hard in 16-ounce gloves, as Kovalev in 10-ounce ones. guess the top five in any weight class
in any point in history were within a
15% range.

We should to a thread about some of the most absurd things boxers said: I'll start - Roy Jones saying he lost on purpose to Tarver in their third fight to deliberately spite his father (lol) - and George Foreman saying he was scared of Joe Frazier before their fight during ref instructions watch it - Big George looks far from scared - ---- then you add the race factor and black boxers tend to favor black boxers over white asian or latino - just reality -

You just don't see any top black champs singing praises for Golovkin - yet Golovkin is an amazing exceptional extraordinary fighter - and one of the best in history - no matter what he does - even if he KOs canelo cotto ward and floyd all in a row he will never ever get the credit from the majority of blacks -

He probably still has nightmares about what Green did to his chincheck brother.montrealsuper wrote:Stevens said Allan Green hit harder than G - wonder what his power feels like -

Re: Facing Golovkin
Never heard that by roy - but i dont doubt george had fear of frazier. Joe was undefeated then and an awful mean stare.montrealsuper wrote:We should to a thread about some of the most absurd things boxers said: I'll start - Roy Jones saying he lost on purpose to Tarver in their third fight to deliberately spite his father (lol) - and George Foreman saying he was scared of Joe Frazier before their fight during ref instructions watch it - Big George looks far from scared - ---- then you add the race factor and black boxers tend to favor black boxers over white asian or latino - just reality -

Re: Facing Golovkin
Roy said it after the fight on boxing talk back when greg leon was on fire doing all those boxer interviews for BT - Foreman's stare looked a lot more intimidating looking down on Joe - then once the fight started George didn't fight anything like he was scared - he looked like a big bully ready to lay a beatdown - and that's what he did RIP JF
Re: Facing Golovkin
Nonsense. Please tell me... who has he beaten that makes him one of the best in history?montrealsuper wrote:You just don't see any top black champs singing praises for Golovkin - yet Golovkin is an amazing exceptional extraordinary fighter - and one of the best in history - no matter what he does - even if he KOs canelo cotto ward and floyd all in a row he will never ever get the credit from the majority of blacks -
Re: Facing Golovkin
Yes, he has still to prove the "one of the best in history" part, but it is hard to do that when other belt holders keep hiding. Unfortunately, he got only 2-3 years of prime left ...Dixonian wrote:Nonsense. Yeah I really rate Golovkin too - and I really want to see him land the big fights.ikorolev wrote:Yes, he has still to prove the "one of the best in history" part, but it is hard to do that when other belt holders keep hiding. Re: Facing Golovkin
Floyd Cotto Canelo Sergio Quillin Jacobs Saunders have ALL ducked chances to fight GGG - While these unofficial "wins" by ducking don't appear on GGGs record they do appear on his legacy - And they shine very brightly and speak loudly for his Legacy -
Re: Facing Golovkin
Yeah. In boxing, there is always a possibility of a headbutt, cuts, another injury. It shouldn't be more than 20/1.Tony1244 wrote:Yes I know GGG is the Favorite.
