WBS Titles

Post by milpool »

I've seen many people make reference to WBS titles on here. When I first saw it, I assumed the poster meant 'World Boxing Syndicate', a title I think Mitch Green won once. However, I'm sure it means something else...anyone want to let me in on what it means? :TU:

That is what I mean when I use the term. The WBC, WBA, WBO etc. Doesn't start with a W, but the IBF as well. Some people call it the "alphabet soups".

I've noticed that some people (mostly newer fans I am guessing) think that the organizations are legitimate governing bodies and that their title means a lot. Often those titles are a joke.

The WBS organizations are corrupt. They only exist to make money for themselves. They get sanctioning fees and kickbacks for their "title fights".

Fighters whose management teams "play ball" with them get title shots. Those that don't play ball, don't get title shots. Their rankings are often a joke. They will rank a fighter highly who has not done anything right before he gets a title fight so that they can hype the fight a showdown between their "champion" and a "top contender."

Often a WBA champion or WBC champion or whomever is not that good of a fighter. He might not be one of the top 5 or even 10 fighters in his weight class.
Often he can run up a string of "title defenses" against weak opponents which fools some people into thinking he is really good.

The worst thing about boxing is when guys like Billy Joe Saunders call themselves world champs and people who are not 'clued up' have no choice but to believe it. When you try and explain you simply sound like and idiot or as if your disrespectful to the fighter. It's grim.

No doubt there was a "W" somewhere in the title.
