Gennady Golovkin and Roman Gonzalez
Both guys fighting on the same bill again, fast becoming a highlight of the boxing calender for me
GGG fighting unbeaten Dominic Wade who's coming off a SD win over Soliman, dont know much about him he looks to have decent power but apart from the win over Sam hasnt fought anyone of real note, surely another early to mid round finish for Golovkin
Gonzalez fighting McWilliams Arroyo,i remember seeing Arroyo and his brother McJoe fighting on the same show a few years ago,the name always stuck with me and ive seen both names pop up over the years since,i do remember both brothers having aggresive styles but that was early in their careers so McWilliams may have reigned it in a bit for all i know,he did lose a SD in a world title fight against Ruenroeng 2 fights ago, although it was also 2 years ago, cant see anything other than a Gonzalez masterclass again though,he's for me the best in the business p4p and i see him becoming the 1st guy to KO Arroyo

Re: Gennady Golovkin and Roman Gonzalez
I, too, am looking forward to this card, I really enjoy watching Golovkin and Gonzalez fight. Wade doesn't excite me as an opponent, he got away with a robbery against Sammy, who is now in his forties and has had major knee problems since the first couple of rounds into the Taylor fight, he did manage to score a knock-down against Sam though, a rare feat. Nonetheless, i can't wait for the fight.

yep, shame that the first big fight he'll get will probably be against a man a lot bigger than he isBoxerbeetle wrote:Shame all the 'big names' in the division are too terrified to face himMarlo Stanfield wrote:Massive fan of Golovkin but this is a rubbish fight

As a boxrec poster I'm outraged at the matchmaking.
As a bloodthirsty fight fan I'm dripping at the idea of these two guys sharing the bill against anyone.

Re: Gennady Golovkin and Roman Gonzalez
I'm the exact same. The opponents don't really matter in a sense. Just love watching both of these guys go to work. Both a joy to watch and I can't wait. That being said GGG needs a big fight and soon. He's 34 now. I know it's not his fault though so he gets a pass from me. He is avoided like the plague. Chocolatito will probably have to move up and try for a fourth weight division. Some good fights for him at SuperFly. I'm assuming he does Fly pretty easy as he's already came up two divisions though. Shame he isn't a stone heavier then he could have some real fun!davie wrote:As a boxrec poster I'm outraged at the matchmaking.

Re: Gennady Golovkin and Roman Gonzalez
I like that Roman keeps fighting on the same bill as Golovkin. I guess the question is, we all know Golovkin just needs a couple of names to get in the ring with him to be a proper PPV star.
But will Roman become a star in his own right? I think guys at the lower weights have a tougher time of it.

I'm not sure I want him to build up the fanbase his talents deserve.
If he does we get deprived of seeing these two do there thing on the same bill.
That's enormously selfish of me but I don't care

But that means for Roman to get paid what he deserves, is he relying on the generousity of Golovkin to subsides his purses?

I heard Tom Loeffler saying that this might be the last Golovkin / Gonzalez paired card.Ricky_ wrote: But that means for Roman to get paid what he deserves, is he relying on the generousity of Golovkin to subsides his purses?
With Gonzalez starting to headline after this.

What do people think the two UK walkout times will be?
3am for Gonzalez, with GGG on after at around 4am?

Re: Gennady Golovkin and Roman Gonzalez
I disagree. BoxRec has Wade ranked 12th in the world - and I tend to gave their rankings a lot of credence as compared to the four bodies individual rankings. Wade is a live contender, the truth is there just isn't that many good fighters in the Middleweight division who are prepared to meet GGG. And there's loads that he's already beaten convincingly.Marlo Stanfield wrote:Massive fan of Golovkin but this is a rubbish fight

want to see ggg v bjs
Re: Gennady Golovkin and Roman Gonzalez
Don't think either fight will be competitive but when you have GGG and Gonzlaez on the same card you are guaranteed action for as long as it lasts.
Saw something saying Gonzalez was ready to move up to 115. Estrada rematch, Cuadras, Tete, Inoue would all be good fights for him there.
Other than the Canelo fight I'm not sure what GGG can do at 160. Don't think Saunders has any interest in the fight. Jacobs is happy to act as if he doesn't exist. I think Lee would fight him if he can beat Jacobs.

So much talent on one card, it's a great double act. I just hope GGG eventually gets the big fights he needs.
Gonzalez v Arroyo is a quality fight, the Puerto Rican is a serious puncher, RG is going to have to be on his guard, and he might put on a clinic since he knows he's in with a danger man.

Re: Gennady Golovkin and Roman Gonzalez
Another devastating display of power and precision from Golovkin, another IBF mismatch really, still better to see him keep busy while he gets Canelo or Co to share a ring with him,i think GGG struggles with his interviews more than his fights, although his English is coming along great and his personality is great,i cant stand that Jack Reiss,i thought all the refs on the show were excellent then i heard his frigging voice as always,he never should have let Wade continue after the 1st KD in the 2nd,he clearly didnt carry on yet Jack kept asking him,ask him once if he doesnt respond "Yes" then stop it,he asked him about 6 times, dick
Gonzalez/Arroyo was a great scrap i was impressed with McWilliams attitude,he never shirked and took the fight to Roman,i had it 116-112,i thought the cards were a bit harsh but still no doubt Gonzalez was winner,it wasnt the most impressed ive been with him but still,to do that to a world class Flyweight deserves respect,he's probably a victim of his own standards
Great show and i loved the undercard fights too,Pedro Duran and Ryan Martin were excellent and great value

Re: Gennady Golovkin and Roman Gonzalez
I didn't sit and score it but I had Gonzalez by about 4 or 5 points myself. There were a couple of rounds that were difficult to score where Gonzalez was dictating the pace and was throwing a lot but the quality shots came from Arroyo. I usually enjoy Jones and Rawling commentating but I felt they were only watching one guy in a lot of the rounds. Arroyo is a quality fighter and gave a very good account of himself. As you say we probably expect so much from Gonzalez now that anything other than his A game is scrutinised. He definitely didn't look himself for a lot of the fight but had more than enough to win comfortable on the cards. Shows how good he is. They said he was 126 in the ring so I can see him moving up in the next couple of fights.handsofstone wrote:Another devastating display of power and precision from Golovkin, another IBF mismatch really, still better to see him keep busy while he gets Canelo or Co to share a ring with him,i think GGG struggles with his interviews more than his fights, although his English is coming along great and his personality is great,i cant stand that Jack Reiss,i thought all the refs on the show were excellent then i heard his frigging voice as always,he never should have let Wade continue after the 1st KD in the 2nd,he clearly didnt carry on yet Jack kept asking him,ask him once if he doesnt respond "Yes" then stop it,he asked him about 6 times, dick

Duran and Martin were both good to watch for different reasons. Martin more polished and technically better but Duran looks as if he's going to be good fun to watch in the coming years. There to be hit and likes a scrap. Carries obvious power.
GGG done what was expected. Didn't look like he wanted to hang around like he sometimes does. Wade well overmatched but GGG gets a pass because he is one of the most avoided fighters going. All in all a very enjoyable show. I recorded it and sat and watched it this morning and never hit the forward button once like I sometimes do

Ahhhhh, refreshing to read a couple of common sense apraisals of the Gonzalez fight.
The lunatics were out in force discussing this on CS this morning.
One guy gave 11 rounds to Gonzalez and he was taking pelters for not scoring it one sidedly enough.
The same poster that demaded Gonzalez win considerably more than 11 rounds in a 12 round fight was also telling us how poor a performance it was from Chocolatito and was definitive proof that he was never p4p no1.
As it happened I scored it 8 rounds to 4. But did say the ones I gave Arroyo were tight and could have been a draw or scored the other way.
A great scrap, plenty punches. Great volume and terrific engine and variety of work from Gonzalez and some real solid shots landed from Arroyo who was game and kept it competitive.
No Gonzalez most commanding performance but I suspect that was largely down to the good work from his opponent
Re: Gennady Golovkin and Roman Gonzalez
I was kind of doubting myself with the commentary if I'm honest because Jones is usually spot on. Was closer than the commentators and judges had it no doubt. Still think Gonzalez is a class act but he showed a few vulnerabilities in there. A big bit of a SuperFly who can hit like Inoue would give him plenty to think about. That fight has to happen this year or early next hopefully! Super Fight for the lower weight classes.davie wrote:Stuarty30 wrote:I didn't sit and score it but I had Gonzalez by about 4 or 5 points myself. The result of the Golovkin fight on boxrec lists the fight as being for the WBC interim middleweight title among others. What are Alvarez and Khan fighting for ?
