Mayweather Jr - Did he ever lose?
Did you ever have Mayweather losing a fight? If so, which one?
Re: Mayweather Jr - Did he ever lose?
are you a boxing newbie?
everybody knows castillo won around 8 rds in the first fight, therefore the winner.
pac/maidana is all for debate, but this one is for sure.

Re: Mayweather Jr - Did he ever lose?
I had Castillo by a point in their first fight. That was the only debatable one.

Re: Mayweather Jr - Did he ever lose?
I had Castillo beating him 115-111 although I acknowledge it could be scored closer, that's the one that stands out the most. I have no problem with anyone scoring the first Maidana fight against him either, though I had it a draw. I scored the Pacquiao fight to Floyd by a single point, but could see it wider to Floyd. The Judah fight was closer than the cards indicate too - Zab could be given five rounds (though I gave him four) and should have been credited with a KD.
To answer your question, yes, once, to Castillo.

De La Hoya controlled their fight with the jab. Deserved the win. Castillo bulled him all over the ring also.
Re: Mayweather Jr - Did he ever lose?
I thought Castillo won the first fight clearly, I had it 115-111.
You could make a slight case for Marcos Maidana in the first fight, but since the consensus is that Floyd deserved the win there I'll give it to the consensus.

Re: Mayweather Jr - Did he ever lose?
Castillo beat him and after that he became even more safety first.
I also has De La Hoya winning by 2 rounds, but clearly if that makes sense

Re: Mayweather Jr - Did he ever lose?
I thought he clearly lost the first Castillo fight but I had him winning every other I watched, with the closest being 116-113 against Maidana.

I got round to watching the first Castillo fight quite recently, I scored it to Castillo by a point. Close fight.
I thought he beat DLH by a few rounds and same goes for Maidana I.

Re: Mayweather Jr - Did he ever lose?
Depends on how you score fights.
You could argue Maidana scored a draw or won the first fight very narrowly if you award points for effective aggression and volume punching. The only problem is he commited several horrendous fouls the ref ignored for some reason. Mayweather never adjusted when he was on the ropes and the philly shell had more holes than a cheese grater. From around round 5 onwards, In ring center, Mayweather controlled the action with excellent body shots that stopped maidana in his tracks. Then there were the matador jabs and right hand leads.
The first castillo fight was similar to Ali/Norton 2. Anyone who thinks castillo "easily" beat him is on crack or biased. For whatever reason Mayweather gave rounds away and didn't let his hands go nearly as much as he should have. Castillo could be scored slightly ahead for volume punching and ring generalship, mayweather for clean shots and effective defense.
Other than those two asterisks, mayweather doesn't have any fights where he wasn't the clear winner. Zab Judah put up a hell of a fight and should have been given the knockdown but mayweather edged it narrowly.

It's funny really, even brut said floyd lost the fight against Castillo easily and there is no bigger fanboy than brut, if the roles were reversed in that fight then the fanboys would be calling that a dominant win

Re: Mayweather Jr - Did he ever lose?
Floyd/Maidana was either 3-3 after 6, or 4-4 after 8 ... either way, it wasn't much of a contest after that.
However, Maidana was able to maintain an energy level that most Floyd opponents can't maintain. That kept the fight interesting.
Maidana won 3 to 5 rounds. In this case, 6 is a stretch.
I scored Floyd/Castillo like the judges. I thought Floyd won. I can't see any reasonable way to give Castillo the 9 rounds some people have given him. The most a can see is 6, but I think Floyd landed the cleaner, more effective punches.
Those are the only 2 fights I think Floyd may have lost 5 rounds.
In almost every other 12 round fight, his opponent has won less than 3. Most of the time, one or none.

Re: Mayweather Jr - Did he ever lose?
JCC 1 he lost that fight and got a close decision. he clearly won the remtach though but he learned a lesson. Do not fight guys with any quickness. That could be his kryptonite. Floyd then carefully planned the rest of his career to fight slow guys, old guys and people on the downside of their career. And that is exactly what he did. He waited on the Manny fight and would not fight Pacman in 2008. Too quick. He waited 7 years to take on a diminshed Pac and same with Mosley, DLH all of their quickness had evaporated. He fooled many out there but not me. He is a phony. A smart phony but nevertheless a phony.
Re: Mayweather Jr - Did he ever lose?
Good post 'bad intentions'. Only i'd add that the pac fight was closer in my opinion than some give credit for.
As for lancelix's comments - ridiculous. Castillo wasnt even fast, he just had good timing and pressure and was the bigger man.

Please, STFU. I get the Floyd hate, but does it have to go on and on and on and on and on and on and on? He is retired. Forget him.

Re: Mayweather Jr - Did he ever lose?
Here's a good article on the Mayweather-Castillo fight:
http://www.badlefthook.com/2009/9/18/10 ... -jose-luis
The author scored the fight 114-113 to Castillo, which is closer than I had it, but very reasonable. It's probably worth mentioning that Castillo outlanded Floyd 203-157 over the fight, including a 173-66 edge in power punches. Looking at the fight as a whole, Castillo definitely did better, but scoring it round by round, it's a lot closer. I really don't understand those who can't see the fight for Castillo and given the scorecards, I think its likely the fix was in. Floyd clearly won the rematch, but the scorecards were much closer - kind of reminding me of how Lewis got a 117-111 scorecard against Holyfield in their rematch, which seemed like recompense for being robbed in their first fight.

Re: Mayweather Jr - Did he ever lose?
Thefirst Castillo fight is the only one I feel is up for debate. I personally had it a draw, but thought if anyone deserved the nod it was Castillo. I thought Floyd won 8 rounds clearly against Madaina in the first fight, beat DLH by atleast 4 rounds and beat Pacquiao relatively easly.

I feel the same way. The DLH fight was not that close in my opinion.NateJR wrote:Thefirst Castillo fight is the only one I feel is up for debate. I only had him down on one scorecard and that was the DLH fight but paperthin so no complaints from me.
Re: Mayweather Jr - Did he ever lose?
To me it's baffling that someone couldn't see a case for JLC winning the first fight. I think those are the type of people who would try their best not to see it either.jezzamundo wrote:Here's a good article on the Mayweather-Castillo fight:
