Boxrec rankings are massively weighted against the lower weight classes.

Then I guess you never thought Chavez was ever P4P#1 or even Pacquiao when Floyd was gone for a few years.

One could argue that's because the talent pool at the lower weight classes is much thinner, for several reasons:

1) There are simply less men of that size.

2) The weight classes have so few pounds between them that it divides the talent.

3) Fans seem less interested in those weight classes so there is less money to go around.

1) Probably true with boxers but I'd certainly doubt men in general compared with heavyweights for example.

2) Agreed there are too many weights down there. There should be more than at higher weights due to the % of overall size but not as many as there are.

3) Can't argue with that. I'd link this to number one as well. There aren't many men from the boxing powerhouses at these weights, Japan aside.

Is the talent pool thinner?
The number of competitors is fewer, but the depth of talent is there something that cannot be said at Heavyweight for example, where there are more competitors but a less quality.

Not for Chavez. Pacquiao is a different story because he has moved up through many divisions and dominated. How many divisions has Chocolatito fought in and dominated?

Chocolatito is the complete package.

If he was a welterweight he would annihilate everyone in and around his division.

Pac: 5' 5.5", 67" reach
Roman: 5' 3" , 64" reach

Clearly, Roman's ability to move up is way more limited than Pac's. He really looks like a child:

1, but that's all he needs. Hopkins and Hagler really only dominated one weightclass and both were top 3 P4P in their time.

Different scenarios for those fighters. Hopkins still managed to jump up two divisions and beat very good fighters. There was no reason to move up in Hagler's time. All the attractive fights were at middleweight for him and he wasn't killing himself to stay at the weight. Chocolatito is killing himself to make weight and even admitted in the post fight interview that he had only 1 more fight in him at 115.

I don't need Gonzo to move up to consider him #1 P4P. I just need him to unify and clean out his own division.

So, he doesn't look marvelous in one fight (against the biggest puncher in the division and a guy who arguably beat Ruenroeng), but still wins wide, and all of a sudden he's overrated?

I'll bet you a grand that 90% of those saying it had never seen him before HBO and still haven't seen any of the 'bums' he beat before that.

If he isn't P4P 1, then who is. Because the next 2-3 guys on the list not named Pacquiao haven't dominated more than 1 class neither.

So if Mayweather stays retired with his 49-0 and Roman gets to 50-0 is he better then Floyd in my opinion he aint even close to Floyd nowhere near close.
