Which fighters are calling GGG out?

Post by MP »

Wade is a top 20 MW fighter, but I'm wondering about the top 10 MW's and why we don't see GGG facing them. I understand that Saunders isn't ready to sign the bottom line, and Canelo isn't ready for a MW fight with him. But, that still leaves 8 other top guys. Have any of them called out GGG yet?

We've seen plenty of top ten middleweights fighting GGG, just not in his most recent fight.

Lemieux was top 5 and a belt holder
Murray was top 10 and unlucky not to have won against Sturm and Martinez
Rubio was top 10
Geale was top 5 and a former belt holder
Macklin was top 10 and was robbed against Sturm

As for the current top 10:

1. Canelo - I believe wants to stall as long as possible before fighting GGG, mostly Golden Boy's doing, not his own
2. GGG
3. Cotto - Will probably go back to 154lb, never wanted a GGG fight
4. Jacobs - Could happen if the WBA enforce it, doubt Jacobs wants it
5. Eubank Jr - Would probably be smarter to go after a Saunders rematch
6. Saunders - I believe will fight GGG, but is stalling like Canelo
7. Lee - Big heart, I believe he would fight GGG
8. Heiland - Would probably fight GGG for a good payday
9. Lemieux - Would probably fight GGG again, but no one would want to see a repeat
10. Quillin - Didn't want GGG before, can't see that changing

Interesting. It truly does look like no fighter is calling out GGG, so that's why we're stuck with him taking the highest ranked guy to step in the ring. Reminds me of the great 80s when no one wanted to get in with Tyson.

For the record, I don't think Canelo is personally afraid of him. I think his team is a little afraid and that's why he's avoiding GGG.

Hopefully these guys won't all want to fight him in 5 years when everyone is past their peak, and we get sub-par 'great' fights. That was the huge problem with Mayweather-Pacquaio, they were both way past their peak, and then both of them gave horrible performances in their big fight. Wish it would've happened 5 years before, as that's the lasting memory that we have of May and Pac.

Nice breakdown, man. I think Daniel Jacobs is the only boxer in the mix that bring GGG into deep water. His size and reach are formidable but I do question whether his chin could stand up after the light punching Sergio Mora dropped him. Eubank Jr might be another interesting fight. Andy Lee SHOULD get dismantled by GGG easily unless he lands that crazy right hand as it can drop anyone. Quillin is all done now. He's been overrated since day 1 in my opinion.

Jacobs has no chance - he couldn't even handle Pirog - Haymon still thinks he can build Jacobs into something - a KO loss to G would destroy Jacobs career -

Canelo has no confidence he can beat G - if he did he would tell Oscar don't worry I can beat this guy - G will kill Canelo easily -

As far as I know, Andy lee and Jacobs are fighting this summer so take both of them off of the table for awhile.

1. Canelo -can see him fighting , triple g and putting up a good fight
2. GGG
3. Cotto - cant not see him fighting ,he is to old now , and to small
4. Jacobs - can see this happing , could be interesting
5. Eubank Jr -could happen, seeing him getting bashed early , bjs bullied him early and nearly stopped him and bjs is not know for his power
6. Saunders -cant see it , unless ggg comes here, bjs wont be able to box him for 12 rounds will gas and get ko
7. Lee -i think would if given a chance has a ko punch so has a prayer, but see ggg ko him early
8. Heiland - might happen if all else fail, didnt look all that when he beat a fading macklin,
9. Lemieux - been there
10. Quillin - didnt want it when he was top dog.

Nice post. I can't disagree with any of it. GGG is being avoided like no other fighter in the past 20 years.

Lara seems like he is currently the best fighter that wants to fight him.

I think Saunders will fight Golovkin eventually, but he wants the far easier payday against Eubank Jr first.

Eubank will beat Saunders, so BJS would never get GGG.

If Saunders does not or can not sort out his stamina problems then you could well be right.

If Saunders can improve his stamina to a reasonable extent then he should win the rematch comfortably.

Eubank at least had a good chance of beating Saunders in my view. I wonder if BJS should take a GGG fight first, because if he loses that a Eubank rematch is still big fight in the UK, whereas an earlier loss to Eubank would make a $2m+ GGG payday very unlikely.

That's exactly what I was saying. Losing to GGG will not cancel the Eubank fight while the opposite is false.
