I look out the windows of my cottage (that I paid £120k for) and see the sea, rolling farmland, and the wild ruggedness of the moor. Two of those are within walking distance, one is a 20 minute drive or train ride away. I don't have anything more than a passing worry about crime or personal security here, although I grew up in Plymouth, where that was very different.mickey1975 wrote:Really?mickeyb wrote:And it's a much better one. ;)mickey1975 wrote:I'm with Git on this. There's work here, and the pace if life is slower. People still chat to strangers. A thriving local live music scene, and all the mod-cons that technology has brought. Takes a while to get anywhere, but once you've visited the frozen, icy tundra of The North (y'know, Portsmouth, Brighton, That London...) why would you want to leave the Westcountry?
Meanwhile, all the worker drones slave away up the line, and send us their income tax - as well as spending their holiday money here. Cheers, emmets!

Some beautiful spots around there. I''m not sure I could live there full time, but be nice to have a place to get away from the smoke now and then.

I'm a Tranmere fan, and remember his very short reign too. Thanks to him and various other ex-Liverpool and ex-Everton players using Tranmere as a managerial testing ground, my 11 shares in the club are like those money-off coupons that say "the value of this coupon is 0.000000000001p" in the small print.banjo wrote:When he was at Tranmere with Jason McAteer as his assistant they were known as "Dumb and Dumber" to the players.

Does'nt matter where in Britain you go its all nice ,, IF you have money in your pocket . Its only when you have to get back on the treadmill , earn a wage , pay your tax , and pay for everyone else who have learnt to rort the system that its fucked.. Still i've said it before and i'll say it again , I've been fortunate enough to to travel the world live in a few different places , been on holiday to lots more
And my favorite place is Britain,, Best holiday i ever had was a couple of years ago , stayed in London for a week , (covent gardens),, Hired a car went to dover , and then spent 8 weeks driving up to the top of scotland , and back down , EVERY where was freindly , EVERY where was nice .

I don't understand why people holiday in cornwall and devon etc. Weather is no different, prices are higher and did I mention it's sh*t ?
Woolacombe, Newquay - all garbage. Unless you are into Fat Willy t-shirts, Weatherspoons and cornish pasties.

The weather can be beautiful, and there are stunning views, lovely places to go walking in nature - stop being such a curmudgeon Gomez, you know you're just jealous because you live in Charlton.G0mez wrote:I don't understand why people holiday in cornwall and devon etc. Weather is no different, prices are higher and did I mention it's sh*t ?

Would never want to live too far away from a city. Proper hassle getting to venues from far out, and I don't really like trains, especially ones that stop at about 6pm.

All you've done is highlight you don't know the West Country. Newquay is a hole, which is why it's only full of tourists from elsewhereG0mez wrote:I don't understand why people holiday in cornwall and devon etc. Weather is no different, prices are higher and did I mention it's sh*t ?

Devon alone has two amazing national parks in Exmoor and Dartmoor, along with two stunning coastlines.

Cornwall is one of the most beautiful places on Earth, great place to visit. Wouldn't want to live there though, too slow paced for me. Maybe just get a second home there and make myself popular with the locals...

I'm from Paisley/Glasgow and now reside in Greenock. All as shitt as each other with a whore of a crime rate. Glasgow isn't as bad as it was. Not the city anyway. Some of the housing schemes a short walk from the city can be quite hairy but the centre is generally not too bad now. Always get the odd bumper but it's the same everywhere you go.

Walking? I'll have you know I reverse my car 300 yards to the co-op when I need more cigs and vodka.jamesmcdonnell wrote:The weather can be beautiful, and there are stunning views, lovely places to go walking in nature - stop being such a curmudgeon Gomez, you know you're just jealous because you live in Charlton.G0mez wrote:I don't understand why people holiday in cornwall and devon etc. Weather is no different, prices are higher and did I mention it's sh*t ?

And how many women in bikinis are there in these beautiful views? It's just old people taking their grey faced 15-year old Jack Russel's for a dump.

Ironically when I was in the mob I always found Glasgow and Hellensburgh to be far nicer than Plymouth, which is as much a den a of pudenda as anywhere Iv been. fornicating drove me bonkers driving down there every weekend when I was there too.Stuarty30 wrote:I'm from Paisley/Glasgow and now reside in Greenock. The City centre is actually quite nice. I've never had any trouble there. The west end is really good for a night or day out. Just the surrounding areas. Paisley and Greenock at night are hellish. Something always happens. I like Helensburgh. Nice town. Never been to Plymouth. My mate works for BAE and gets shunted about Plymouth, Portsmouth and Barrow. He seems to like it though.

Won't be booking a weekend there anytime soon then. Most places with armed forces bases nearby are the same. Always rowdy and usually leads to bother when there's drink involved. My wee cousin is actually based down there. I lived in Colchester at uni, rough as arseholes, and a horrible place to boot, bunch of squaddies picked on my mate Sean Worrell, 5 foot 1 black guy, called him a coon and his mate a Paki, group of 5 squaddies started pushing them around.Stuarty30 wrote:Won't be booking a weekend there anytime soon then. Happily, unbeknownst to them, Sean was a serious martial artist (I didn't even know before this incident) - he'd studied his final dans in Tae-Twan-Do in Korea - and proceeded to kick unholy crap out of 4 of them, (after the required warning) - breaking one's jaw, shattering the ribs of another, and knocking two of them unconscious, the 5th one legged it. He got arrested but not charged as he was outnumbered 5-1 during the altercation, and there was racial provocation, and gave them fair warning of the can of whup-ass he was about to open on them.

Sorry mate, especially knowing your slanted political leanings, I call MAJOR BVLLSHIT. you expect us to believe a 5ft man took out 4 people with Taekwondo, possibly the most discredited 'martial art' available (watching the Olympic top fighters is laughable, they'd just be shoved over in a row.)jamesmcdonnell wrote:I lived in Colchester at uni, rough as arseholes, and a horrible place to boot, bunch of squaddies picked on my mate Sean Worrell, 5 foot 1 black guy, called him a coon and his mate a Paki, group of 5 squaddies started pushing them around.Stuarty30 wrote:Won't be booking a weekend there anytime soon then. I think you've watched too many films and are just trying to fashion a 'evil racist white people narrative' to make yourself feel good about yourself. You leftists are well known for your disingenuous claims and lies to prove a point.
I have seen a sh1t load of fights, and never, never seen a guy fight more than 2 people successfully. You just get pulled to the floor after you kick off. I've been involved myself against 4 guys. Banged number one, and then just got thrown to the floor and kicked to pieces whilst one guy was holding my head in place. No way a 5ft guy KOs 4 people and the other runs away

How does this make me feel good about myself? What's this bullshit 'evil racist white people' bullshit got to do with anything? I don't associate or disassociate myself with people based on their colour. There's no connection between myself and those squaddies, - what I am supposedly making myself feel better because I'm atoning for being white - that's pretty weak. Wow.
Let's be frank, they likely were cowards, probably couldn't fight, certainly not to the level he could, and most certainly weren't expecting aggression. Maybe he was a bit better at fighting than you? I dare say he was as he'd been involved in martial arts at a competitive level since he was a young kid.
As for leftists making shit up - I'd point in you in the direction of hillsborough mate, before you get too carried away with your 'leftist baiting' drivel. Mind you, given your slinging of such terminology about, you've probably got a wank-stained poster of Bernard Ingham on your wall.
