Dan Blackwell has decided to hang up his gloves, the injury that his brother Nick suffered recently was the main reason, as he didn't want to put his family through the worry of watching him box again.
Dan a tough journeyman boxer, only stopped once in 61 contests.
Good luck to him for the future, and he can enjoy seeing his family grow up.
Dan Blackwell retires
Re: Dan Blackwell retires
A very noble decision there. The Blackwell boys obviously enjoy their boxing and fighting so this is a big step for Dan. I have a young family myself so I admire guys who put their family first. I hope the two brothers find as much pleasure in being a spectator that most of us on here doOld bones Ian wrote:Dan Blackwell has decided to hang up his gloves, the injury that his brother Nick suffered recently was the main reason, as he didn't want to put his family through the worry of watching him box again.

Good luck to him.
He was a really tough pro. Both are a credit to the sport.

Great to hear; I have to say i have watched him box a few times and he was far too brave for his own good as well. He took a lot of beatings. He fought Bradley Pryce in newport not too long which was a hell of a contest.
Re: Dan Blackwell retires
Very best of luck to him. Tough guy with good skills - the only thing I didn't like about his boxing was that he tended to neglect his skills in favour of having a brawl and so could end up taking more shots than he needed to. I was at ringside for a couple of his fights: his points win over Jamie Boness in Northampton in 2012, in which he was all over his opponent, and a slightly quieter points defeat against Craig Cunningham in 2015. Hope he stays in the sport in some form - after 61 fights, almost all on the road, he has a lot of knowledge to share.
