Good story for the grandkids though! I've never seen what I would class as 'a legend' in the flesh. Perhaps Calzaghe but it depends on your interpretation on 'legend'. Hearns certainly fits the billSyntax Error wrote:I forgot to say I watched Tommy Hearns live once in Manchester, but he was way past it then.

Joe Frazier v Bugner
Jose Napoles v Ralph Charles
are probably the 2 standouts for me.
Also saw Ali box an exhibition against John L Gardner ay the RAH but don't really count that

Can't be arsed to list them all, but some of my favs were...
Nigel Benn, Kevin Kelly, Calzaghe, Barkley, Robin Reid, Hearns, Scotty 'Bulldog' Olson, Livingstone Bramble, Naz, Nunn.
I was lucky enough to sit in on Chris Pyatt sparring Adrian Carew/Dodson, which was a bit nice. Adrian was considered a world class prospect at the time.
Really wish I'd seen Larry Holmes.

Bit before my time, but my old man was there and said it was the first Bugner fight he'd been to where the fans were really on his side. Did you get that feeling?roy wrote:Joe Frazier v Bugner

Who is this legendary Englishman that you speak of? I have heard such tales of an Englishman conquering his nemesis infront of 80,000 at Wembely but I thought it was just a fabrication?95gerog wrote:Pacman

Legend has it a brave knight named Charles Frogg slayed a ginger muppet in front of a crowd of 80,000 peasants at wembley many years ago. Some people choose to believe, but no real evidence exists...Stuarty30 wrote:Who is this legendary Englishman that you speak of? Re: What world class / world champs have you seen box live?
I was at the same bills. Collins beat Gerhard Botes in a dull fight. Benn against Gent was a right laugh. I did a lovely combo of a (I think) Double Dove & some other pill & joined in with the Gent fans singing "Saaf Laahndahn, Saaf Laahndahn, Saaf Laahndahn". It was a proper laugh & the type you don't really get in the US.reggaereggae wrote:And by this I mean future, past and current champs? I was thinking a bout this the other day and it's a lot more than I thought!
- Nigel Benn.. Against Lou Gent and Henry Wharton
- Steve Collins (in the same bill against a South African)
The Benn Wharton bill was a cracker. Watching (a bloke I picked as successor to Sugar Ray Leonard) Michael Nunn get beat by a small, light punching Steve Little - who was dead a few years later from cancer.

Whoops, Froch and Kessler too. Seen Froch a bunch of times actually during his career when he was up and coming.
