George Groves vs James Degale II
After watching the DeGale fight, I can't but help think that a George Groves with anything less beats him, he could just have his number, DeGale is lazy and its going to cost him, don't get me wrong if it was a 6 round fight my money would be on JDG, but he just cant keep focused for 12 rounds, now its easy to make cases for either being worse (Groves poor stamina/DeGale's poor attitude and work rate).
I think a half decent Groves wins a split. And Jack's solidness will trump DeGale's 5/6 rounds of effort.

DeGale is lazy and arrogant, I'd take Groves by split decision aswell.Hinchy70 wrote:After watching the DeGale fight, I can't but help think that a George Groves with anything less beats him, he could just have his number, DeGale is lazy and its going to cost him, don't get me wrong if it was a 6 round fight my money would be on JDG, but he just cant keep focused for 12 rounds, now its easy to make cases for either being worse (Groves poor stamina/DeGale's poor attitude and work rate).

DeGale wont stop Groves and Groves wont stop DeGale.
This fight has got to get made, PPV with an 02 sell-out...
Re: George Groves vs James Degale II
Is DeGale's stamina any better than Groves'?
Re: George Groves vs James Degale II
Degale close decision.
Re: George Groves vs James Degale II
that's arguable, but I think JDG can hold a shot better in the later rounds than GGHorse wrote:Is DeGale's stamina any better than Groves'?

Both fair points; I'd add that, pound for pound, Groves is a considerably harder puncher IMO though.Hinchy70 wrote:that's arguable, but I think JDG can hold a shot better in the later rounds than GGHorse wrote:Is DeGale's stamina any better than Groves'?
Despite the relative highs and lows for each since their first fight, this is an intriguing one, and I'd love to see it this year.
Re: George Groves vs James Degale II
I was reading the paper over the weekend and Degale was saying that his promoter wants him to fight Murray, Groves and Smith but he didn't want to as it "doesn't mean anything on the world stage".
There are some cracking fights to be made amongst that 4 however it looks as though (as ever) they wont be made.

I wouldn't say better, but I'd say he manages it differently.Horse wrote:Is DeGale's stamina any better than Groves'?
Groves tries to maintain a pace and his stamina drops round by round.
DeGale takes rounds off, so can be abit fresher later on.
I imagine their gas tanks are the same they just work at different times during the fight.

Re: George Groves vs James Degale II
I think DeGale struggles to get motivated without the attention and also the 'fear' that a big fight can generate.
If he can keep his cool in the build up to a re-match with Groves then i think he would toy with him. Groves wore him out mentally before their first match and since then DeGale has adapted his behaviour whereas Groves has been the one to tire mentally a fair bit.

Think degale won the 1st fight, and he has has come on more than groves has although I don't think Groves has declined like some people say. Think Degale wins a rematch quite handily
Re: George Groves vs James Degale II
DeGale couldn't toy with Medina, I doubt that he'll toy with Groves.freddydoesdallas wrote:I think DeGale struggles to get motivated without the attention and also the 'fear' that a big fight can generate.

Re: George Groves vs James Degale II
Agreed; I think under pressure when it comes to the smack talk stuff, Groves and Degale are very similar, as witnessed by Degale's reaction that others were ahead of him in the SMW queue some time ago, when Richie Woodhall told him that. Degale was perplexed and kept saying "but I'm WBC silver champion..?".Horse wrote:DeGale couldn't toy with Medina, I doubt that he'll toy with Groves.freddydoesdallas wrote:I think DeGale struggles to get motivated without the attention and also the 'fear' that a big fight can generate.

Re: George Groves vs James Degale II
Will always be close between them. DeGale could hurt Groves early, but if he didn't put him away he would find his usual flat spot and the more game Groves would then outwork him late on. Split decision either way.

Re: George Groves vs James Degale II
I actually think it's Groves that has more chance of hurting Degale early; I'd give James a far better chance of hurting GG late on if/when he tires, like he did around round 9(?) in the first fight.johnswan1 wrote:Will always be close between them. he has to adapt mentally.
He has to keep his cool.
He struggles to get motivated.
He doesn't have the 'fear'.
A lot of factors have to be in play for DeGale to perform by the looks of things...

Re: George Groves vs James Degale II
I'm only talking in relation to Groves who also needs a lot of factors in his favour. DeGale has come on leaps and bounds since their first fight and has had his biggest wins since that day. Groves hasn't really come on a great deal and his best win is probably still DeGale.wesshaw1985 wrote:I'm just reading excuse after excuse for poor performances.freddydoesdallas wrote:First line. I do think that DeGale will be one of those fighters that performs better in high stakes match ups. He has adapted mentally and he has shown he can keep his cool in the ring (and a little outside the ring but who knows what will happen if someone pushes his buttons again).
Despite these poor performances, he's still picked up a world title and has a couple of pretty decent victories to his name.

Re: George Groves vs James Degale II
What of? A reason why DeGale beats Groves? I wouldn't class myself as a 'fan' of either. I doubt i'd leave my city to watch either of them fight as a headliner. I just think DeGale has grown as a fighter and Groves has regressed. DeGale still needs to improve and Groves needs to stop inspecting the canvas but from what i've seen recently, DeGale winswesshaw1985 wrote:sounds like you are trying to convince yourself my friend...freddydoesdallas wrote:I'm only talking in relation to Groves who also needs a lot of factors in his favour. Re: George Groves vs James Degale II
I honestly don't know.
Groves hasn't looked the same since Froch but Degale is the laziest bastard in boxing. He seems like the type of guy who motivates himself to perform well against the elites of the division but tries to coast and take it easy against the lower boxers.
If he underestimates Groves and doesn't fully commit, then Groves takes it. If he gives 100% and doesn't keep taking his foot off the gas and taking things easy then Degale would do it.
Proper 50-50 fight, hope it gets made.

Re: George Groves vs James Degale II
Groves starts quick, DeGale boxes well in patches, Groves tires late on, DeGale switches off and showboats.
12 rounds of the above and I'd favour DeGale on points but close.
It's a fight I'd like to see again. The build up would be good.
