George Foreman before or after?

Was Big George a better overall fighter before or after his layoff and comeback? He may not have been as ferocious in the ring when he cameback,but he was much more patient. He seemed to use his jab much more effectively and surprisingly his stamina seemed alot better.A case I believe could be made that he was better when he came back.

I don't think his stamina was better after his layoff... He was just MUCH less active in the ring. I am one of those who think young Foreman had a fairly good stamina. Most heavyweights would have been gased after 8 rounds of pounding on an opponent who wouldn't go down. The Young fight was a combination of Foreman not being in great shape and also the fact that it was held in the heat of Puerto Rico.

foreman couldnt even beat axel shulz, alex stewart, or tommy morrison.

the 70s foreman much much better than the 90s foreman whom i believe is overated. the 90s foreman could be beaten by B level guys.

foreman did NOT have his same power either. notice how outside of moorer, foreman was NOT ABLE TO KNOCKOUT ONE TOP 10 CONTENDER. unless u want to count the incredible adilson rodriguez.

I agree. Young Foreman was clearly a superior fighter. Much faster work-rate, greater speed, great athleticism. And his stamina only faded in the late rounds b/c he set a FURIOUS pace in those early rounds. If you look at the Peralta fights he actually shows much better stamina then you'll see any HWs today display besides Byrd and Toney . . .

I thought Foreman beat Stewart ..no?

A lot of people, including myself, think that Stewart should have won the decision. It was a gift decision. Same with Schulz. Foreman won by majority decision but most people thought that Schulz won.

Physically? 70's Foreman
Mental status? Older Foreman.

If he would have ever had the two working together I think we could classify him as a legit top 3 HW. However since he never had both at the same time....he doesnt rate nearly that high. The potential that was never tapped may have been enormous.

But in general potential is overated. What counts is what you really accomplish. And between his two eras he accomplished a hell of a lot anyway.

agree. george was mentally together in his second career. If he'd have ahd the physiczal gifts he would have been tremendous.
