So do I, but he still had a win over Tszyu, even a win over an old Tszyu is better than any of Amir's victories.lefty wrote:I think hatton was overrated.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Hmmm....borderline perhaps. Had he beaten Alvarez, he'd have been in that category, certainly a british great.

The thread is " Big up Amir Khan " not kids play time. If you you you can't contribute, then better to do something else, like Iron your socks and underpants. Full stop lol.
Re: Big Up - Amir Khan
And this is the British & Irish forum, but it didn't stop you from starting a weird thread about a long retired American trialhorse.Anzi wrote:The thread is " Big up Amir Khan " not kids play time. You may not have noticed yet, but it is not just used for British British topics or are you not aware ?

Re: Big Up - Amir Khan
Based on the fact that tszyu who was his only really significant victory being 35 years old which for those lower weight classes is knocking on a bit and was pretty injury prone in the latter stages of his career aswell- outside of that, I think hatton got away with a lot of fouling and dirty tactics that he wouldn't have don't in a neutral country. Finally, Hatton struggled with the likes of collazo and being stopped by senchenko is pretty bad even though he was making a comeback.Horse wrote:In what way?lefty wrote:I think hatton was overrated.
Re: Big Up - Amir Khan
Hatton had been out of the ring for 3.5 years; stuffing his face, taking drugs and being depressed, before fighting Senchenko at a weight that didn't suit him. To hold that loss against him seems a bit petty.lefty wrote:Based on the fact that tszyu who was his only really significant victory being 35 years old which for those lower weight classes is knocking on a bit and was pretty injury prone in the latter stages of his career aswell- outside of that, I think hatton got away with a lot of fouling and dirty tactics that he wouldn't have don't in a neutral country. So how should he be rated?
You don't think that he ever deserved to be in the P4P top 10?
You'd not have him in the Hall of Fame?
You'd have him outside of the top 20 ATG British rankings?

Definitely hall of fame, if McGuigan is there, Hatton must be, one of the most popular british fighters of all time. P4P top 10, I guess so, I'd have to give it more thought to answer definitively, Hatton was in an era of fractured belts, where a lot of the fighters of yesteryear would have had a much easier time having a belt. Top 20, more than likely, again, would need to really have a good hard think.Horse wrote:Hatton had been out of the ring for 3.5 years; stuffing his face, taking drugs and being depressed, before fighting Senchenko at a weight that didn't suit him. You think of someone like Alan Minter, he'd probably have been able to have numerous title defences had he been around when Hatton was, instead of getting minced by Hagler. Hatton was slightly fortunate, like McGuigan to be able to lure over an aging champ to put his title on the line for a career high payday.
As for Senchenko, that fight is an irrelevance, Hatton was well and truly shot by that point.

I think most people rate him quite fairly. It's not as if everyone raves about Hatton whenever he is mentioned.
There's normally an angle.jamesmcdonnell wrote:You think of someone like Alan Minter, he'd probably have been able to have numerous title defences had he been around when Hatton was, instead of getting minced by Hagler. The champion was old, was ill, didn't train properly, was a weak champion etc.
They're hardly ever the clear No. 1, in their prime and with no excuses when they lose their title.

Re: Big Up - Amir Khan
Anybody think Khan can still make 140?
My opinion is that the guys don't hit quite as hard at 140. At least he may be able to get up when he gets sparkled.
It's his best weight to be honest. He has a bit of pop. He is more natural at 147 yes but he can re hydrate up to 143-145 on fight night instead of fighting guys at 147 who are coming in at 155 on the night

Re: Big Up - Amir Khan
No way he makes 140 anymore. Hell he might not even go back to 147. When guys get a taste of making weight easier without having to have a hard time draining down that's often not something they want to lose. He'd never even bother trying to get to 140 again those days are long gone.marco_dude wrote:Anybody think Khan can still make 140?

James, maybe it's just wording but (in my humble opinion) you can be a 'great fighter' without being 'one of the greats'.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Great fighter? Not a chance, very good yes, but doesn't deserve to be mentioned as one of the greats, his career has fallen well short of greatness.Horse wrote:Anyone slagging off Khan is trash.
Great fighter.
Well played for him taking on Canelo, turned out to be ill advised as Hunter thought. no questioning his bravery, but let's not get carried away with either the plaudits, or the brickbats.
I think you're taking what 'orse said out of context - although who knows what that piss taking c*nt actually means

Yeah, I am not entirely convinced. lucas matthysse, ruslan provodnikov can still make it and they have a fair bit more meat on them.gilgamesh wrote:No way he makes 140 anymore. Canelo weight in at 175 on fight night, the boy didn't have a chance!
Re: Big Up - Amir Khan
In an age of Super, Regular and Interim champions with multiple organisations, Khan hasn't won a world title fight for 5 years. He has a lot of followers on Twitter though.
