John McDermott's been stripped!

Post by Horse »

HEAVYWEIGHT (Vacant)

DAVE ALLEN v SAM SEXTON

Due to the inactivity of Champion John McDermott the Stewards have declared this Championship vacant, therefore, the Stewards decided to put out the above contest to purse bids to be submitted in accordance with the Terms and Conditions attached to the Board’s Head Office by 12:00noon on Wednesday, 8th June 2016, the contest to take place by the end of September 2016.

This contest is also an eliminator for the British Heavyweight Championship.
How can they strip him, if it's all of his challengers refusing to fight him, rather than him refusing to fight them?

I hope he sues them into oblivion.

The BBBofC are not fit for purpose.

He hasn't fought since 2013, I'm sure he could have fought someone, is there any reason to think the guy wants to keep on boxing? He's 36 and had a decent career.

Why won't anyone fight him?

It is his opponents who pull out, not him.

Some may think that it's mad, but the whole world is running scared of Big Bad John.

If he was serious about fighting then he would've fought by now. He's obviously not interested. In fact I bet him being stripped upsets you more than it does him...

Yeah I'm sure, at the very least, he could have put together a keep busy fight in that time. Plenty of people willing to fight on short notice too.

Hopefully he really hasn't been defeated by this and we'll still hear the last howl from Big Bad John.

About time he has brought the title into disrepute by not defending.
There is a chance that the Uk heavyweight scene will ignite now which would be great for boxing and hopefully the careers of the top domestic heavies.

I like John Mcdermott, shame he was never fought after the skelton fight, he could of gave Hughie Fury a test. He probably would of ended up being smash by Joshua.

Anyone know what he is up to these days? I don't see him at shows or he isn't on social media.

I think he is still working in the family engraving business. They make gravestones etc.

Horse is being harsh on the bbbofc. Big John has been ambivalent towards his boxing for some years now.

John was a very good boxer.

Terry O'Connor gave Fury the first fight by SIX rounds. Never allow that to be forgotten. Terrible judging IMO.

If my McDermott money had come in that night I was looking at 300. It’s was a shambles!

Joshua looks convincing but McDermott wouldn’t have rolled over. McDermott is the kind of chap who you can take someone’s real measure against. Didn’t he blitz that Larry Olubamiwo (sp?) in a round? Thought it was much more recent than 3yrs..

I know, that was my point, it seemed apt somehow he'd slathered in noxious stork.

Got the rules for English title fights changed did Tel,3 scoring judges these days,I'm sure Frank Maloney had a heart attack that night but didn't realize until couple days later when he found poor Darren Sutherland, I remember coz i went on a 4 day binge on the bubbles/cat and got kicked out for a few days

Then it came out that McDermott's dad KO'd Terry back in the 70s when they were pros
