Lucas Browne stripped of WBA belt & suspended for 6 months
Australian Lucas Browne's 'B' test was analyzed by VADA and came back positive.
This means, the Championships Committee of the World Boxing Association have stripped Browne of is heavyweight title and suspended him for 6 months, in accordance with the rules of the organization.
Browne won his WBA belt after winning by TKO in the tenth against the then champion Ruslan Chagaev in March. However, the title will not be returned to its former owner after he revealed his intention not to return to the ring when announcing his retirement following the fight.
Should he decide to return to the ring, Chagaev will have 120 days to negotiate a fight with Fres Oquendo, who by court order in the United States, is entitled to this confrontation. But if Chagaev decides to stay away, Cuban Luis Ortiz and Russian Alexander Ustinov would fight for the vacant regular heavyweight and then the mandatory against Oquendo.
Browne was only suspended for 6 months because in a previous test earlier that week he was negative. After the combat with Chagaev, he showed the prohibited substance he tested positive for, which was Clenbuterol.
However, although the WBA believe there was no intention to infringe the rules by the boxer, we recognise that Browne and his team are responsible for what the fighter eats or ingests before a world title fight.

Re: Lucas Browne stripped of WBA belt & suspended for 6 months
So it's OK for an NFL player ( Duane Brown ) or a cyclist ( Albert Contador) to have a test ruled out because of tainted meat but not a fighter. Do you really think Browne would deliberately eat anything tainted?
WBA. What a Bunch of Arseholes.

At least Browne has some precedents, all be it from other sports, to quote in the fight to clear his name.Brute wrote:So it's OK for an NFL player ( Duane Brown ) or a cyclist ( Albert Contador) to have a test ruled out because of tainted meat but not a fighter. I don't think we have heard the last of this by a long shot.
Re: Lucas Browne stripped of WBA belt & suspended for 6 months
Duane Brown has the NFL Players Association behind him.
Lucas has.........................Ricky Hatton.
Big time advantage to Duane Brown.
Hatton isn't going do anything more than release statements nobody cares about, put together lie detector tests(which have zero credibility) and wait for the results of the B sample.
The NFLPA can and will take it to court and drag it out for years which could cost the NFL millions of dollars.

The B-sample came back positive. We all knew this would happen no matter what.Perseus wrote:Duane Brown has the NFL Players Association behind him.

Of course it did. It was another part of the same sample.convict wrote:The B-sample came back positive. We all knew this would happen no matter what.Perseus wrote:Duane Brown has the NFL Players Association behind him.

He just should have never taken it.
Re: Lucas Browne stripped of WBA belt & suspended for 6 months
Caught cheating and only gets 6 months. Another black eye for boxing, when are they going to give life bans and hitting boxers financially with huge fines? It needs to be stopped and no gay worship from you is going to change my opinion on that. If a drug cheating boxer (especially a heavyweight) kills an opponent, could they be up for murder?Brute wrote:You're an idiot.tsmithy50 wrote:Maybe he should fight Potvekin, for a cheaters 'world' title.

Re: Lucas Browne stripped of WBA belt & suspended for 6 months
People need to read a little more carefully what the WBA had to say before going off half cocked:
“The minimum suspension is appropriate due to the circumstances of the negative pre-bout testing only one week before the bout and Browne’s arguments relating to the minimal levels detected and lack of any logical competitive advantage,”
“Notwithstanding, Browne participated in the bout with a prohibited substance in his system,”
“Regardless of any arguments to the contrary, athletes do not always act rationally or logically when it comes to striving for that competitive edge in competition, whether real or merely perceived.” the statement concluded.
“Whether Browne knowingly or voluntarily took the prohibited substance is of no consequence concerning the no contest ruling and only carries any weight for purposes of determining the suspension period,”
“The boxer and his representatives are ultimately responsible for what the boxer ingests.”

Re: Lucas Browne stripped of WBA belt & suspended for 6 months
It was inadvertently taken mate. He passed a test 6 days prior. The WBA acknowledged that hence the minimum penalty. The WBC are more lenient(with Golden Boy fighters) look at what they did for Francisco Vargas for the same thing.tsmithy50 wrote:Caught cheating and only gets 6 months. Hopefully he stops doing drugs he doesn't need it. He shouldn't doubt himself like that.

Hey calm down with the questions. Browne gets done for drugs and now he's been punished and I try to say something positive like the above and you're going to question me like that?.. WTF?dberry wrote:Are you all ther.....nah, forget it, I can't believe I've wasted my time with you in the other threadfoxdog1923 wrote:Hopefully he stops doing drugs he doesn't need it. Even the WBA said they don't believe Browne knowingly took the clenbuterol.foxdog1923 wrote:Hopefully he stops doing drugs he doesn't need it. He shouldn't doubt himself like that.

I didn't realise Browne was claiming innocence. There's always 2 sides of the story but the facts that I know was the illegal substance was in him and he's stripped of his title which I heard will be returned to Chaegeav and he's going to get 6 months.Like a Boss wrote:Even the WBA said they don't believe Browne knowingly took the clenbuterol.foxdog1923 wrote:Hopefully he stops doing drugs he doesn't need it. I mean who should I listen to? I dont know Browne from a bar of soap. I'm on the fence on this one but one thing I do know is prisoners always say they're innocent.

The WBA said they accept he didn't knowingly take it.

Well that's a stupid title if the WBA is looking to return the belt to Chagev and is he still serve a 6 month ban. Re: Lucas Browne stripped of WBA belt & suspended for 6 months
The WBA's reasoning is that it is the responsibility of the athlete for what enters their body. Though in the case of Lucas Browne they are prepared to concede that under the circumstances they don't believe he knowingly took the drug.foxdog1923 wrote:Well that's a stupid title if the WBA is looking to return the belt to Chagev and is he still serve a 6 month ban. Re: Lucas Browne stripped of WBA belt & suspended for 6 months
That's shocking. It's like the WBA are saying.."we understand what you're saying but you're just going to have to take the fall" and so he will fall. Loses his belt, labelled a drug cheat by Chagev fans and people, serves 6 months etc...but hey it's ok, because the WBA understands??..Like a Boss wrote:The WBA's reasoning is that it is the responsibility of the athlete for what enters their body. They only understand they're in a tricky situation and they need to show they've taken action.
It looks like Browne might need to pack his own food and water before he goes overseas.
