Kell Brook Vs. Lamont Peterson
Kell Brook Vs. Lamont Peterson
Just watched an interview with Liam Smith on B0xnati0n. Liam was talking about a possible fight with Kell Brook but mentioned it looks like Brook will be facing Peterson next.
Not too excitied about this one to be honest.

Re: Kell Brook Vs. Lamont Peterson
Kell Brook is a buster. This is about as good as we can expect from him.
Still a step in the right direction, as pathetic as that is.

Re: Kell Brook Vs. Lamont Peterson
Providing he goes somewhere good next I'd be happy with a Peterson fight. He's fought at the top level, and he'd come to win.
Re: Kell Brook Vs. Lamont Peterson
Meh fight to me
Definitely better than the last three and it gives Brook the opportunity to outperform Garcia and Khan, but still not very interesting. I actually had Peterson drawing in his most recent bout and I suspect that he's going to be the significantly smaller man on fight night; I can't really see him mounting the type of offense that will cause Brook any problems.

Re: Kell Brook Vs. Lamont Peterson
Peterson is vulnerable early and does not have best chin, but will come on strong late on, styles make fights, Peterson might be made for Brook, Brook could spark him early.
Re: Kell Brook Vs. Lamont Peterson
I agree. Can't take anything away from Kell in terms of going to America and taking the belt off Porter. It's just he's now been a pro for 12 years and it still feels like his career hasn't properly taken off. He's maybe only got a few years left so it really is becoming now or never.Horse wrote:Kell Brook is a buster. This is about as good as we can expect from him.

Hey, the Porter win was very good, but what else can Brook do?chad wrote:I agree. Can't take anything away from Kell in terms of going to America and taking the belt off Porter. That win was almost two years ago now!
Get on with it Brook! Stop whining on about Khan!
Re: Kell Brook Vs. Lamont Peterson
The Peterson fight would be classic Hearn. He'll name a few genuinely world class fighters as a possible opponent (Thurman, Garcia, Bradley), then next time he'll drop in the name of someone just below that level (Peterson, Berto). Each time he gets asked the question, the weaker opponent will creep nearer the top of the list. Subtle little trick he does to plant the seed that the eventual opponent is actually at the level of the big names that he mentions to begin with.
Peterson is a good fighter, and would comfortably be Brook's second best win, but in reality he doesn't have a single win at 147 and hasn't had a significant win since he beat Jean over 2 years ago. Even the Khan win was nearly 5 years ago.

Shit fight but what's new. Yeah he might been better than who brook has been fighting but that's not saying much.

Isn't this exactly what we've been saying since he fought and beat Rafal Jackiewicz? So to be honest I can't agree with the above sentiment.
I'd also question whether Peterson can really be taken seriously at 147. He's not even had a fight at this weight! Can't see it happening.
Re: Kell Brook Vs. Lamont Peterson
How does Peterson even have a ranking at 147?
He entered the rankings at #7 last November based on a win against Felix Diaz the month before. Diaz himself wasn't even ranked and the fight was at 144lb.

Re: Kell Brook Vs. Lamont Peterson
I think Brook would outbox Peterson fairly comfortably. He could possibly stop him late, but I'd lean toward a UD win for Brook.
Re: Kell Brook Vs. Lamont Peterson
Early KO for Kell if this goes ahead. Think I'd rather see him in with Vargas. If they can't get Vargas over here then just go to America for the fight. It's not as if Brook is a massive sell over here anyway. Frampton has a massive following and he's taking the chance going to New York in July and stepping up a weight to do it. Time for Hearn to deliver.
Re: Kell Brook Vs. Lamont Peterson
Vargas' manager said they'd been offered a 7 figure career-high purse for the Brook fight. Peterson would be an acceptable fight if Vargas won't take it.

Don't worry Liam, they'll dig you a body up from the graveyard.chad wrote:Just watched an interview with Liam Smith on B0xnati0n. Liam was talking about a possible fight with Kell Brook but mentioned it looks like Brook will be facing Peterson next.

Re: Kell Brook Vs. Lamont Peterson
If so, a bit disappointing.
Kell will have to be sensational.
Think Kell has many years left, but at some point probably he will have to move up to 154.
Americans will probably take notice if Brook impressed because Peterson is one of those guys that endlessly fight on US networks collecting TV money licence fees but never excelling in championship fights. You get a lot of these guys.
The credentials at welterweight probably come from the close defeat to Garcia over the light welterweight limit.
Don't think there's any reason to panic re Brook. They're playing the long game. They'll get the big win next year or in five or six years. Like Calzaghe. It'll come. But it's a shame, welter can be the superstar division but the fighters have to go for it with aggressive match ups. Hoping that Brook v Spence comes next, because this would generate excitement and Spence is close to a shot at the title of Brook.
Hope Brook doesn't get injured this year as well.

long game ???? jeez hit the nail on the head there Autobarn
2022 unification on the cards
Brook needs to jump ship and go to Al Haymon, Hearn cannot deliver on the world scene

I said this about the Jojo Dan fight
I grudgingly said it about the Gavin fight
I refused to say it about the Bizier fight and only just accepted it because the fight was mandated and unifications were not an option
No more excuses, no more BS, Peterson is not a top level opponent.
A "step in the right direction" isn't good enough, we were told he'd fight the best
"as long as he fights someone good next" wont cut it because he probably wont and people will make these excuses next time.
If it's Peterson, it's not good enough for me. He's fought at top level, but he is not top level.
He was a good (not exceptional) LWW, he's never fought a full WW, he's never been a full 147lb WW.
He barely deserves a top 10 WW ranking and is not much better than Guerrero.
"he'd come to win"
If that's our justification for a top level opponent for a world title, it's a sad reflection of where world level boxing is.
Re: Kell Brook Vs. Lamont Peterson
If he fights Peterson and Spence in consecutive fights that'd be acceptable.
At least the next probably mandatory appears dangerous and willing to come to the UK. I don't think Kell would do what the cynics expect and vacate the title for Spence in order to fight at light middleweight.
Anyway, Peterson isn't official yet. Maybe they get Vargas.
Really the plan should be, big fight (title holder) in the UK - then gun for big fight (vs popular title holder) in the states. Because Brook appears to be in his absolute peak as a welterweight. He's fast, fluid, punching in excellent combinations and his accuracy better than ever.
I don't want to see a big fight in another year or two and Brook putting in another tentative performance to get the win.
