Terry O'Connor gave Fury the first fight by SIX rounds. Never allow that to be forgotten. Terrible judging IMO.
Got the rules for English title fights changed did Tel,3 scoring judges these days,I'm sure Frank Maloney had a heart attack that night but didn't realize until couple days later when he found poor Darren Sutherland, I remember coz i went on a 4 day binge on the bubbles/cat and got kicked out for a few days

Then it came out that McDermott's dad KO'd Terry back in the 70s when they were pros
Oh yeah, forgot about that.

Never agreed anyway with ref being the sole judge, bloody stupid idea, the ref should be reffing, not trying to score the bout.

Can't believe Terry O'Connor still gets to be a ref/judge whatever he's doing these days. Diabolical man.

days when refs used to give verdicts straight after the bell, i preferred it more drama.

Looks bloody worse than I remember it! Fury by six rounds? That guy is definitely not “unbeaten”. O Connor you berk!

If my McDermott money had come in that night I was looking at 300. It’s was a shambles!

Joshua looks convincing but McDermott wouldn’t have rolled over. McDermott is the kind of chap who you can take someone’s real measure against. Didn’t he blitz that Larry Olubamiwo (sp?) in a round? Thought it was much more recent than 3yrs..
Liked big John but not sure I agree. Price smashed him something stupid inside a round don't forget, I'd bet decent money AJ would have done the same

I was looking up who was the current English champion just before this happened, the length of the champion's inactivity made me wonder if the title would soon be declared vacant.

I don't see a viable challenger to McDermott in the time since he's been inactive, but is there any evidence for the 'challengers refused to fight me' theory? Has anybody asked John McDermott? It would be a tough ask to get him in fighting shape after 3 years out. Is he up for that in his late 30s?

The Board made announcements after the pullouts.

If McDermott refused to fight then he would have been stripped earlier.

JOHN MCDERMOTT (Holder) v HUGHIE FURY

Hughie Fury withdrew from the above contest.
Hughie was the last one who pulled out, about a month ago.

I don't know the details, but Hennessy won the purse bids.
