If Khan retired now
Re: If Khan retired now
He has a helluva lot to be proud of, theres not many that have had every single one of their fights on as big a stage as khan, he's won world titles, worked with the worlds best trainers, done vegas and MSG, was an Olympian and always came to win, he's got some fantastic skills but is also very flawed, but I will say this about him, hes certainly taken his lumps like a true fighter, the Alvarez loss was the first time he couldn't get to his feet after being knocked down, all in all I think history will be kind to him and will be missed

Yes, he must be financially secure by now, and he must realise that his ambitions must be tempered by his limitations.
Perhaps one last big fight, maybe brook, which I'd expect him to lose probably in the same fashion. I think Garcia will likely beat him again if they meet, and in the same fashion.
Re: If Khan retired now
Good fighter who lets himself down every time his lips move...believes himself to be better than he actually is....even now saying he should fight Pacman in England. The guy is deluded, Pacman would knock him out cold. He needs to fight Brook and stop saying he is too big a name for Brook. Start humbling yourself Amir. I say he achieved about what was expected, never a dominant world champion but a good one. Certainly not one for the HOF!
Re: If Khan retired now
He doesn't need to fight Kell Brook, Khan could lose a couple more times in the states and Kell brook would still be tweeting challenges. How about Kell actually takes on another fighter worth fighting?TopGun wrote:Good fighter who lets himself down every time his lips move...believes himself to be better than he actually is....even now saying he should fight Pacman in England. Re: If Khan retired now
The only person Khan has fought and beat who is a name is Maidana. Everyone else he has come up short. Every time Maidana got mentioned as a rematch to Khan I think his anus loosened and dirtied his pants.

Still, better than anyone Brook ever beat.TopGun wrote:The only person Khan has fought and beat who is a name is Maidana. Everyone else he has come up short. Every time Maidana got mentioned as a rematch to Khan I think his anus loosened and dirtied his pants.
Strange there's no names there given he's fought and beat 13 past, present or future world champions. Brook's beat one? Brilliant.
If Brook had half the heart Khan did his career would have been better.
Re: If Khan retired now
Khan will not fight Brook, just like he did not fight Thaxton and did not fight John Murray.
He's not fought any of his domestic peers at any stage of career. They think they can swan around the UK as the no1 at their chosen weight, without ever having fought anyone.
They withdrew from BBBoC purse bids to avoid Thaxton.
When the fight with Murray was at a perfect point, they put out disparaging statements that Amir dominated Murray in sparring, that he'd be easy work - and then they had to issue an apology and state that Amir had never even shared a gym at that point with Murray, let alone spar.
It must be a UK sponsor thing that they are so fearful of losing to countrymen.
Khan has boxed just 8 Englishmen - Baz Carey, Michael Gomez, Scott Lawton, etc and a couple of Irish and a Scot - all of which were 'opponents' and not supposed to trouble him.

underachieved.
overachieved - if u remember the fallout after the prescott fight.
he does need to get hold of his ego regarding this brook fight though.

Re: If Khan retired now
A Cv of past opponents does not mean he can beat Brook. Surely you know enough about boxing SNG to know people like Malinaggi and Barrera are hardly credible on his Cv given the stage at their career they fought Khan or their ability?SNG wrote:Still, better than anyone Brook ever beat.TopGun wrote:The only person Khan has fought and beat who is a name is Maidana. What decent name does Khan have on his Cv (that he has won) other than Maidana who Brook would not beat? By the way I beleiev Maidana would lose to Brook. I just think that is Khan's only major win. Which he scraped through.
Brook would beat Khan but Khan's ego will get in the way so it wont happen. He would hate to lose to Brook.
Like I said I love watching Amir fight, he just spoils it when he opens his mouth. Full of cr@p and self worship

I think you're right, I think Khan could not stand losing to Brook, and his team know also that a loss to a domestic rival would effectively end the brand of Khan as a world-beater, a brand which is already rather spurious.G0mez wrote:Khan will not fight Brook, just like he did not fight Thaxton and did not fight John Murray.

Khan's been a headliner so long now, that he seems to think he needn't bother with domestic rivals.
Brook should just move on and forget about Khan.

Brook has a trinket & the welterweight division is stacked, even if the IBF still managed dig up huge piles of sh!t to put in front of him.
There are far better fighters than Khan that Brook should be chasing & if he did so & beat them, Khan would have no choice but to face Brook, assuming that Khan is relevant at that point.
Re: If Khan retired now
I agree. Says a lot about Brooks ambition when he's chasing a guy that has just been violently knocked out. Brook has to look elsewhere. I'm a fan of his style but he's starting to get on my tits. Someone should have a word and tell him to forget it.jamesmcdonnell wrote:I think you're right, I think Khan could not stand losing to Brook, and his team know also that a loss to a domestic rival would effectively end the brand of Khan as a world-beater, a brand which is already rather spurious.G0mez wrote:Khan will not fight Brook, just like he did not fight Thaxton and did not fight John Murray.

Fast Eddie will be doing a Jamie Cox and texting Khan up to 800 times a day trying to convince him. I'd imagine about 750 of they texts will be like Mrs Doyle 'ahhh go ann' 'go ann, go ann, go ann, go ann, GO ANN!!!'

I saw a comment from Khan earlier saying that he's achieved his dream of being a ppv fighter in the US. Technically I suppose it's true as he has been on ppv but dillian whyte has been on ppv but I wouldn't say he's a ppv fighter

Audley Harrison killed PPV for me, as I haven't bought one since his farce with Haye.
Then again, I should be thanking him really.
Re: If Khan retired now
Audley got at least a million for throwing one punch in less than nine minutes. Not bad work if you can get it, I guess.
Let's not forget that Hearn cut his teeth promoting Audley in that fight.

Re: If Khan retired now
I'm going underachieved. Thats not to say he has does badly in the ring, his limitations are well documented now but did manage to pick up somw titles.
There was a piece I read earlier http://www.skysports.com/boxing/news/12 ... malignaggi which comments on Khan being better than Hatton. But Hatton managed to attract a huge following and Khan could have done the same. I think Khan's view of himself has turned a lot of people off supporting him so in a few years he'll be largely forgotten.
After his success at a time Britain didn't win boxing medals in the Olympics he could have become a household name and fought at a higher level for longer. So if he retired now, I think underachieved.

The one i agree with mostbbjc wrote:Really has to seriously think about retiring after last nite. Hes just doesnt have the boxing brain for the top level of boxing. I d fancy brook etc to beat him now. Theblueprints been there from the start how to beat him. Although hes learned some new tricks under hunter he d need a brain transplant to make a real difference.
Not a jibe on khan he just doesnt have a boxing brain. Weather its his concentration or failing to adapt or failing to see things happening in a ring. Plus his chins just not good enough for that level. Nearly everything that lands flush makes his legs react. The punch resistants just not there on a consistant basis.
Khan ruined his own career. I still say he was more effective under roach. Khan should have been boiling down much like canelo does and coming into the ring bigger and stronger that his opponents. His speed/reach would have overwhelmed most. Its about the best chance he would have had of fighting and competing with the top level with the flaws he has.
My own 2 cents are:
Financially and fame wise he has been a overwhelming success.Perhaps the finest example of right place right time right guy.17 year old wonder kid at olympics after a very short senior senior amateur career.cleancut from a lovely northern brit pak family....post 9/11 he was just the feelgood positive uk muslim story the left wing bbc covering the olympics wanted....also he was the first brit pak kid to really get pushed...came along just as social media was starting...he was also coming in when the bbc ,itv, sky, setanta ...the lot were very interested in covering boxing....these last two factors would not have been the case 7-8 years earlier.....also conveniently for amir...prince naseem had left the scene.
From a in ring boxing point of view his career has been good but nothing special and certainly his self created hype the last few, years acting as if he is a pac,pbf type main eventer has been a,sham...he has done well to win two titles but overall he has imo been a disapointment...a real disappointment.
Blame it on some of the worst boxing IQ /brains i have ever seen in a supposedly top level fighter.....that amateur rush in style never left him and more and more he became an arm puncher throughout his career he wasted energy moving around too much.....the pluseses.....one of the bravest fighters ive ever seen, a great will to win, terrific energy early in career, altho not dazzling or flashy he had speed and orthodox skills to outbox guys like garcia and canelo in spurts before his glass chin let him down......hunter improved his defence a little and stopped the rushing in a little to conserve energy a little i.proved his inring IQ a little.....but his not being able to address the last points has contributed to all his defeats.....he just cannot adapt and his range of skills is far more limited than some realise.....hes sure as hell no tommy hearns....a guy barry mcguigan compared him to after his 1st fight!!.....i was always suprised amir never developed his piwer to any real degree...again blame the weak points i highlighted, the rushing in,the pointless bouncing around....right now he is an arm puncher who isnt stopping any top 12 fighter... he should cash in with brook who he will get kayoed by......in another 3 years his natural gifts of energy and speed will be on the decline imo......i dont see him fighting that long
Moneywise he has been a huge success

Moneywise he has been a huge success, and imo after the garcia fight khan realised he was never gonna be a top level guy so just chased the big pac/pbf type paydays wile pretending he was a top fighter....this has resulted imo in very arrogant insulting fraudulent behaviour by insisting pbf-khan was the fight the world was demanding....the srl v hagler of its era lmao
