At what point will you consider him to of ducked GGG?

@ttornado, if he doesn't fight Golovkin within the next 12 months then he's going to look 1 hell of a coward, especially after the Khan fight saying he would fight right now, we don't fornicate around etc. If i ere his trainer i would want him fighting at least once at 160 though. People are looking at this matchup with a Golovkin bias, if you try to be impartial and view it from Canelo's point of view... he's about to face the biggest killer in boxing, a knockout machine and most people's #1 p4p, coming off a win vs Khan and having never fought above 155 isn't ideal preparation for it all. Ask yourself, if you were Canelo's trainer, how would you approach it?
@runner, Matthew Macklin just announced his retirement. Sounds like you're reading some garbage on Twitter. Khan was a poor matchup but Oscar has been hyping Khan for years, this Khanelo PPV was Oscar's doing, and tbh, it made business sense. I bet it did excellent numbers and was great publicity for Canelo getting a predictable highlight-reel KO.

It doesn't matter what Khan ppv made, it was a mismatch and thus ducking.

It did 460,000, not that great at all for a Canelo fight, and well shy of what Oscar predicted.Ricky_ wrote:runner_phob wrote:How can one not criticize a lineal MW champion who picked a glass-chinned welterweight Khan and is now considering completely shot Maklin instead of facing his mandatory ???ttornado wrote: Unless the fight is made this year then to me it looks like a duck.

Re: Canelo drops the belt
if a boxer drops a belt for whatever reason, i'm not as hard on them as you. they can makeBatley18 wrote:The WBC should be furious that their title holder has vacated the belt, but it won't work out that way. Back in the good ol' days, if you dropped a belt, you may not get a crack at it again for 5+ fights. Now, you can happily drop a belt and just go for one of the others.
their own decisions and there shouldn't be any more obligations on a boxer to defend a belt
than there are on the belt to cater to the boxer. that said, i think cotto and canelo should both
be banned by the wbc for at least 5 years from fighting for any more wbc titles. both of them
signed contracts with the wbc and ggg, stringing everyone along under the promise that they
would meet their obligations in order to get special waivers of the rules. cotto goes a whole year
while ggg is mandatory without defending, then gets special permission to defend against a guy
ggg already wrecked, then doesn't even pay the wbc or ggg for the canelo fight that he got special
permission to have almost 6 months later. canelo gets permission to defend the title against a
borderline top 10 welter, then vacates. if belts and artificial deadline don't matter, then just fight
who you want to in non-title fights. stop jerking everyone around. obviously the belts mattered
when you were allowed to pick your own opponent. canelo-khan without the belt was worth anything?
if neither canelo-cotto had a belt when the fight was signed, would the fight had been as big? the
only reason belts and artificial deadlines don't matter all of a sudden is because the belt was going
to finally enforce its rules and the mandatory challenger and consensus #1 in the division was
finally going to get his rightful shot at it and the belt holder was finally going to have to keep his
word. that is when belts and deadline don't matter all of a sudden, when it is time to live up
to your obligations, not only to the belt but to the sport, after being allowed to defend the
160lb belt against KHAN!!! cotto and canelo should be banned from all wbc fights for 5 years.

I bought it, much more entertaining than Canelo/Cotto. Canelo would fight GGG, Oscar doesn't want him too and this time Alvarez has enough apprehension that he isn't forcing it like he did with Lara & Trout.

Re: Canelo drops the belt
Yes, that is exactly what happens. We give the lineal champion the benefit of the doubt & he is considered the main title holder. When he proves unworthy of that title/benefit, a consensus is reached by experts & fans alike and from then on we have a consensus champion worthy of world title recognition.IKSRTFO wrote:crusader wrote:The lineal titles at 160 and 175 are no more credible than the ABC belts.
Lineal = no obligations, allow fighters to duck as they please
![]()
Lineal is usually the recognized champion but if the lineal champion openly ducks or doesn't fight who they should, the recognized champion can shift to someone more deserving. Best example today is Adonis Stevenson. He is the lineal champ but it's clear, Kovalev is the recognized lhw champ.

Let's be impartial.Ricky_ wrote:if you try to be impartial and view it from Canelo's point of view
Canelo has been a champion (154) since MARCH 2011.
Canelo won the lineal middleweight title.
Canelo has fought in the middleweight division since MARCH 2014.
Canelo has wins over Cotto, Lara and Trout.
Canelo is 47-1-1
If Saul Alvarez isn't ready or qualified to fight GGG immediately, who is?
Re: Canelo drops the belt
No, Canelo has not been a 154 champ since 2011. He didn't even want a chance at the belt with Lara, since he demanded the Caneloweight of 155.BAD INTENTIONS wrote:Let's be impartial.Ricky_ wrote:if you try to be impartial and view it from Canelo's point of view

GGG should fight Lara, mainly to shut Lara up and get that good win under his belt. GGG is the best I have seen in many years at cutting off the ring. The style clash with Lara would be a super fight, that may be his best win as far as a big name, but would also give a good comparison.
Let me add that ANY lineal title doesn't mean squat.

lewis had just beaten ruddock and hadn't fought anyone in the top 20 before that. bowe already
WON a bigger fight than lewis, and made lewis an offer, which lewis rejected. bowe used to
visit tyson in jail, since they knew each other since they were teenagers, and supposedly it
was tyson who didn't want to fight bowe, but that fight would also have been MUCH bigger
than lewis at that time. we all would have liked to see bowe-lewis, but lewis rejected an offer
when he barely deserved the fight and was named immediate mandatory right after bowe won
the 3 titles. it was almost as stupid as the ibf demanding fury immediately fight glazkov.
canelo wouldn't have even been able to fight cotto for the title without 3G allowing it, after 3g
already allowed cotto to defend the title against a guy 3g wrecked, a full year after cotto won it.
then 3g allows canelo to defend the 160lb title against a chinny bordeline top 10 welter under the
promise canelo would finally keep his word, and canelo vacates. we are talking YEARS of a guy
waiting for a title shot rightfully his after signing contracts and many promises made. in hindsight,
3g should have just told cotto to shut up and fight back in 2014 when he became mandatory.
what's wrong with you, man? you just pulled a ramdom example of a boxer vacating (against another
boxer bowe already fought and hurt and who got knocked cold twice by guys bowe would have destroyed)
and compare it to THIS?!?!

You are one funny guy you have not in anyway shape or form changed my mind Bowe was a great fighter but was kept away from Lewis who I didn't really like watching fight anyway because of his safety first style if someone Knocked me out especially in the amateur's and then we both turned pro and we both could have made million's up on million's of dollar's to prove that the amateur loss was a fluke then I the Heavyweight Champion of the World would move Hell AND HEAVAN TO MAKE THIS FIGHT I have a boxing magazine of Bowe Throwing the Belt in the bin that will do me this argument is officially over.
