I must give it a try. At the moment I am converting via the PC and while the results are fantastic they take a lot of time and effort. Your way sounds a lot simpler.

Sounds right, just put the PAL DVD in a DVD Player - set the DVD player to NTSC (not auto) and the scart it up to a recorder and press record.
The machine I have got though also allows me to interchange record settings - from Pal and NTSC. What I do is put the PAL DVD in to a player, set the player to NTSC - scart it up to a recorder, then set the recorder to NTSC aswell - then press play on the player and record on the recorder. - even better picture quality.
