Who was the greatest Southpaw of all time?
Re: Who was the greatest Southpaw of all time?
Two of the slickest and best southpaws I ever saw were Kenny Lane and Tyrone Everett.

the first great one for sure....and the best one never to be a world champ......and far better stock than al mccoy who did become champ in the decade before him.Expug wrote:Lew Tendler

First southpaw to become HW champion... still, he would be amongst weakest HW champions. Barely got a title from sick Holyfield, lost it to 40+ Foreman in the next fight. And the rematch with Holyfield. I like him, but find it difficult to put him anywhere close to Hagler or Pac.bollox wrote:No love for Michael Moorer ey?

Moored was murder at light heavyweight, he punched so hard it's a wonder he didn't hurt someone.

I'm not sure he'll get the opportunity to prove it, but I figure Luis Ortiz is the best southpaw so far... I also like Gustav Scholz... Antonio Tarver... Michael Nunn and Reggie Johnson - none of the were ever stopped. I always liked Flash Elorde and Vicente Saldivar. Pernell Whitaker was good. Manny Pacquiao got hit a little too much for my liking and was knocked out 3 times.

Pacman on the World stage no southpaw can match his achievement's and here in Australia Jeff [Flash] Malcolm was a master.
Re: Who was the greatest Southpaw of all time?
Edwin Valero is a good candidate... He was never beaten and never tied. He won ALL his fights by KO... He won more World Title Defenses than Sugar Ray Robinson... George Foreman... Rocky Marciano... Gene Tunney... Jack Dempsey... Benny Leonard... and many other ATG's.

Wilt Chamberlain.............................................just in case he didn't choose to fight southpaw, then it's Pernell Whitaker.

Gustav Scholz... Antonio Tarver... and Reggie Johnson were never stopped... I meant to take Nunn out of that group because obviously Toney crushed him... Nunn was beating Toney but he started losing it due to making weight ... He never fought at middleweight after that.

Pernell Whitaker for my money.
Some other great names have been mentioned, I didn't see any I totaly disagreed with for being on a top ten list.

Well just to be clear. IF he chose NOT to fight southpaw, then he would have taken on the "Southpaw Champion Emeritus" status.
