WBO Europe

Post by dw01 »

Is the WBO Europe recognised by the BBBoC?

Is there much activity going on with them, particularly in the UK?

Their international baubles are recognised so I'd imagine this one is the same.

I'm sick of this WBO European title, don't get me wrong its a good way for fighters to get rounds in the bank but more and more these days I hear it being referred to as the European title, usually by the papers but today I read it on a boxing site when referring to Stalker's upcoming fight

That's how the WBA "Regular" belt started, now its accepted as a legit world title amongst everyone(,except us and Team Frampton)

It's Frank's favourite belt.

Buglioni, Cox, Selkirk, Skeete, Catterall, Liam Walsh, Ormond, Flanagan, Mitchell Smith, Pettitt, Burnett and Conlan have all held it. Stalker and Evans fought each other for it twice. Stalker is fighting for it again next month. It's only been going for about 5 years as well

3 things in life are certain. Death, taxes and the WBO European being on the line on a Frank card.

Read the same, it came as a bit of a shock that Stalker would be fighting for the European title.

Explains in all.

If u fight 4 the wbo European title u get banned from boxing for the European title. Winning The wbo European title helps get u a world rankings with them.

Will it be accepted as a legit world title if the Rickster picks it up next week? I'll be over the moon for him but there's no way that fight should be for any world title. Hopefully he can win and use it as a springboard for a decent pay day though.

Broner got stripped so hopefully Hearn can flutter his eyelashes at the WBA and they can make this for the WBA "super smashing great" belt,TBH seeing as the WBA don't have a super champ at 140,I would regard Burns as legit champ by default if he were to win, similar to Crolla at 135

Same here. I always class the guy with the highest regarded WBA belt as a legit champion.

With no super champ I'd also regard Burns as a proper champ.

The biggest farce is Mcdonnell is better than the WBA super champ yet they still haven't enforced that fight.

It's a bit of a joke Burns is fighting for it TBH. I actually like Ricky too but come on he is leagues behind Crawford and Postol. Who ever wins between those two is THE champion at 140.

That said Di Rocco on paper is at least European level and the odds suggest we should be in for a decent fight.

True enough. Is there an interim champion? Would be a good earner for Burns if he could negotiate a fight with that prick Broner if he wins next week.

I think it will be a good fight mate. Both not the biggest punchers but both are very tough with good engines. Really looking forward to it. Limond v Nurse is an interesting one as well.

Im not as sure but I'd like to find out the rematch between Payano and Warren should give a better indication the first fight was decent.

That said I actually think the guy who Payano took the title off via technical decision (Anselmo Moreno) is the best in the division.

Of course this is a bollocks title because of this and all other international continental, Bronze etc etc it's devaluing British and EBU ( the proper European title)

Ultimately it's the quality of the fights that's the issue with these plastic titles.

Usually it's just the home fighter against some foreigner not even ranked by ABC and often from the weight below. And huge odds in favour of the home fighter.

The fact that Stalker is 1/100 with bookmakers for his next fight says it all really.

One thing I do know Terry Flanagan won the WBO European against Stephen Ormond who I wouldn't argue against being European level anyway so that's an exception.

He shouldn't be so inactive.

Mcdonnells wins over Kameda should of enforced the WBA to make the fight or Mcdonnell should of got rid of the WBA regular. If he did he'd be WBO champion.

Moreno is class but always makes fights look closer than they should be. He always seems to fight to his opponents level.
