Eubank Jr vs GGG

Re: Eubank Jr vs GGG
Well speaking of common sense, firstly Lemiuex is an improved fighter since those early setbacks - I saw him in the flesh in Vegas recently and was impressed at what i saw and would have him as a favourite over Eubank, not least because Jr will never have faced anyone with close to Lemiuex's power to date.TheLeprechaun wrote:I don't need a fighter to beat someone at world level to know that fighter is world level. I would have thought that was common sense. In my opinion Eubank is far more skilled than Lemieux and would beat him handily. Lemiuex got starched by Rubio and outboxed by Alcine.
Secondly, while we all have our opinions, you can't definitely know that a fighter is world level until they've mixed in that class, except in rare cases of stand-out talent e.g. the way Naz blew away his early opposition earmarked him as something special - there's no way Eubank Jr has stood out in the same fashion. We've all been guilty in the past of pinning our colours to a fighter we think will excel in world class only for them to come unstuck at that level despite looking the business when operating below that - you can have a gut instinct (rather than 'common sense'), but it can be proved wrong.
I could see Eubank Jr being competitive with the likes of Jacobs, but GGG is an entirely different proposition and it would be man against boy - not only is he a bigger hitter, he's a better boxer. In fact, I'm struggling to think of an area where Jr would be his equal.

What do you consider 'good'? Twenty percent? Fifty? Seventy?Twinkle Toes wrote:I think Eubank has a good chance.
I think you're probably giving Eubank too much credit; I don't really see how he's showed the tools to have a solid chance of beating GGG and of course he lost the only time he faced a top ten opponent. Obviously styles are a bit different, but I think that speaks to how much easier it is to shine against limited fighters like Blackwell, Spike '109-120' Sullivan, and Chudinov (can you imagine how GGG would pulverize these guys?) than it is against people around world level.

Right, because inexperienced 22 year olds can't get better, can they?TheLeprechaun wrote:I don't need a fighter to beat someone at world level to know that fighter is world level. Rubio was a big step up for Lemieux and I think the occasion got to him a bit. David was easily up 5-0 but he didn't pace himself, gassed, and quickly paid for it (though it's an exaggeration to describe a fighter as being 'starched' when they were well ahead and got stopped standing). He then went through problems with his team and from watching his bout with Alcine and knowing the situation I think it's obvious that he wasn't in the right place and hence underperformed. He still has visible limitations, but he paces himself much better and is far busier with the jab, and I think those are improvements that have taken him to the next level.

Re: Eubank Jr vs GGG
I am giving Eubank too much credit, certainly from what we have seen so far, but there are factors to consider such as Eubank is likely fitter than GGG, he's a lot younger, he's quicker and for me he has learnt a lot over his last 3 or 4 fights, especially that BJS fight.crusader wrote:What do you consider 'good'? Who is Golovkin's best win against, Murray?
I see it as a good fight, 60/40 in favour of Golovkin, but nothing near the mismatch that most are seeing.
Re: Eubank Jr vs GGG
I don't think age is much of a factor, as GGG has shown no signs of slowing, and I'm not sure if Eubank is much fitter, if at all. He's probably faster, but GGG has easily taken out many opponents with faster hands and is very good at cutting the ring off. Based on what I've seen 60/40 seems very generous to Eubank.
I'd say that GGG's best wins were over Murray, Lemieux, Geale, and Macklin, while Eubank's are probably over Blackwell, O'Sullivan, and Chudinov, with a loss coming the only time he fought above Euro level; he's a good fighter but not in with a good chance against someone of GGG's caliber IMO.

Re: Eubank Jr vs GGG
It is difficult to see how good GGG is: I don't think Canelo is an out and out Middleweight, and people are giving him a hard time at the moment not fighting GGG. GGG doesn't have many elite fighters at his weight to go against.
With regards to Eubank, he is getting better, but I think he needs to improve his jab and his feet to fight at the very very top, Saunders made him look a bit foolish at times. In 2 years I think Eubank could give any MW serious problems, he is still maturing and he has done very well to live up to the expectations based on his dad so far.

I agree that Lemieux is improved. He's definitely learned a lot from the losses and packs more power than anyone Eubank has faced.
I think we disagree in terms of whether Eubank is world class right now. I can accept your point of view. After all I thought David Price was heir apparent to Klitschko
I am impressed with Eubank and I think he was unlucky to lose to Saunders at that time, who we have to say is world class. I think he beats Saunders in a rematch and the bookies agree, Eubank is a 1/2 favourite for that fight. I think Eubank would be a similar price in the bookies if he was matched against Lemieux and I wonder if other posters agree with me? How do you think the bookies would price that one up?
I don't see how you don't think he's world class if you can see him being competitive with Jacobs.
As far as Triple G goes, I think Eubank is too easy to hit and would get stopped. I put Triple G in his own class, kind of like Mayweather. Its a fight i'd like to see though

Lemieux is a better fighter I agree. And perhaps I was a bit harsh saying he got starched. A starching is what Khan received last week. but still, he has slower hands, slower feet and not as much punch variety as eubank. If eubank brings his dads chin to the fight, I think theres no question that he wins. However, it's a matter of opinion. How do you think the bookies would price up the fight?
Re: Eubank Jr vs GGG
BJS schooled Eubank JR for about 7 rounds. Ok, he has improved somewhat since then but if this happens, can see it being a 11-1 or 12-0 fight to GGG
