Barry McGuigan and Anto Cacace
Barry McGuigan and Anto Cacace
Would like to publicise the fact that Barry 'All about the Money' McGuigan currently has Anthony Cacace under contract, and refuses to get him fights, however will not release him from contract as he wants some $$$ before he will let him leave. Think it's a terrible shame that Barry is more than happy to let a boxers career suffer at a time when he is ready to kick on with his Celtic Title in aid of him trying to line his pockets or show who is in control. Think the boxing people of Belfast should get this message out there and put Barry under pressure to release him, or spread the word to get Anto a promoter who will take him off McGuigan. #FreeTheIrish-Italian !!!
Seen this on Facebook and know from speaking to Anto that he's being prevented making a living by Barry mcguigan. Since he fought Ronnie I have always kept in touch and spoke to Anto and every time I spoke he said that he had not heard from mcguigans since taking on more people in gym. So due to the time not being there this man a former boxer prevents him from doing what he loves. Not the best situation

Re: Barry McGuigan and Anto Cacace
I was wondering what was up with Cacace,i actually thought he wouldve blagged a spot on the Frampton/Quigg card,he's coming off the best win of his career against Ronnie so im a bit baffled as to why he's inactive, seems Ronnie might end up leap frogging him in the rankings ay??

Re: Barry McGuigan and Anto Cacace
If you sign a contract it's tough titties.
Re: Barry McGuigan and Anto Cacace
3 sides to every story, Anto side, Barry's side and the truth. But end of day Barry should be releasing him from his contract. He's a small hall fighter who has a family to provide for. Yeah mate Ronnie is proberly in a better position than him at moment due to his contract problems. Also the time off won't be helping as he's gonna struggle to do the weight with s year out. Was already a struggle while he was a full time fighter
Re: Barry McGuigan and Anto Cacace
In boxing you need to sign contracts until your afforded the right to self manage. Not tough Tittys when your being punched for a living. The boxers come first before managers or promotors. Barry should know that

Re: Barry McGuigan and Anto Cacace
i hope its not true, would like to see him more active as with his size he could be another future irish world champ if he gets the right guidence.
Re: Barry McGuigan and Anto Cacace
I agree. Barry should know what it's like being a former fighter himself. The promotional side to boxing is poisoness and very cut throat. My best mate was a former pro and lost his love for the sport because of all the crap behind the scenes. Says turning pro is his biggest regret and wishes he stayed amatuer.JamieM wrote:In boxing you need to sign contracts until your afforded the right to self manage. Re: Barry McGuigan and Anto Cacace
McGuigan had his fair share of problems with Barney Eastwood so i'd be dissapointed in him if he's simply stalling Cacace's career, everything looked rosy at the fight with Clark and they cant be unhappy with the performance, seems a strange one,has Groves and Haye's arrival edged Anthony out?
Re: Barry McGuigan and Anto Cacace
What's the other side then? If your not going,to get your fighter a fight then let someone else do it.expe wrote:Two sides to every story.
Re: Barry McGuigan and Anto Cacace
I suspect that the reason he wants Cacace's contract buying out is because there's another promoter interested who will sign him when it runs out, so in the meantime he's not going to bother with a fighter that's going to piss off the minute his contract's up.rio wrote:What's the other side then? Fair enough. He should still let him fight if another promoter offers him a fight on their show though.
Re: Barry McGuigan and Anto Cacace
And who would that other promoter be EXPE?
I can't see many top promoters clamouring over themselves to sign up a talented boxer that doesn't sell tickets do you ?
He looked ok against Ronnie Clark but no world beater and imo had the ref been stricter with him leaving his hand out all the time it would have been a closer fight.
With Barry McGuigan he would be in the mainstream and if Carl were fighting again in Belfast it makes sense for him to have more fighters from that area involved so personally I think that it must be a problem with Cacace rather than McGuigan and tbh I have heard from friends in NI that Anto isn't the most dedicated fighter and hasn't always done himself any favours with how he acts so it could be that he is another boxer that thinks the world owes them a living.
jamiem has Ronnie made any headway with a manager? My mates over in NI think he will be teaming up with Mark Dunlop, is that true? Don't really see how that would work tbh with the logistical side and getting Ronnie fights?

A promoter who has a history of poaching fighters and needs a chief support for his new headline act in Belfast.mainman1 wrote:And who would that other promoter be EXPE?

Re: Barry McGuigan and Anto Cacace
The problem wasn't Anto far as I know, been speaking g to him since Ronnie fight and he hadn't even heard from them at all. He wasn't told he wasn't on Frampton card just presumed. Imo it could have been they expected him to be better than he was against Ronnie as there views on Ronnie ability were made clear. But for me he isn't a name and he isn't a threat financially and should be released.
His contract with Tommy is up mate and he's spoken to a few managers. He went over and sparred Tennyson and really loved the set up and mark Dunlop enthusiasm. The dynamics whoever he signs with is he will fight away as far as I know and looking for tv shows . Same as before really if I am honest. It will be his last contract so a lot to weigh up though.

Totally agree in regards to Ronnie, he needs to be careful with Mark Dunlop if he wants exposure? Except from Tennyson fighting Ryan Walsh I can't think of another one of his guys I've seen on TV.
Why doesn't he try linking up with Alex Morrison? Same country for getting fights and especially if Ricky wins Saturday , there will be more TV shows in Scotland.
Re: Barry McGuigan and Anto Cacace
I think he likes mark would keep him active and then if big fights came around he's ready. He had a very limited amateur career and is always learning. He just wants to make people happy by giving them 50/50 fights. If he loses a close fight which every single one of his losses has been then so be it. I spoke to a well thought of Scottish promoter who I will not name who said Ronnie is a dream. He sells tickets and he will fight any single name. Ronnie will not fight anyone in Dundee cause promotors put him in with journeymen and he can't justify selling all they tickets for that. He's a nice guy to boot who takes his gum shield everywhere . Lives for fighting

Heard that about Ronnie but as I don't know him personally but from the outside looking in I really don't understand how Mark can keep him busy? He doesn't run that much shows himself and if you look at his fighters they really don't fight good fighters, James Tennyson has only fought Ryan Walsh and James Fryers also lost in his only step up against Maxi Hughes. Am I missing something? If he wants to fight journeymen then any promoter can do that!
Why doesn't he try the likes of Dave Caldwell? He would get him decent fights and has the likes of Maxi Hughes on his books and that is a fight that could easily be made as a final eliminator.
Re: Barry McGuigan and Anto Cacace
Maxi is fighting Andy Townend in final eliminator. Ronnie is just looking to keep busy, I amnt 100% sure regarding mark and how it works. Ronnie is pretty clued up and he seems to see through the garbage that promotors feed him usually. I felt Tommy did a good job in getting him opportunities I just felt that Tommy was a bit of an idiot in regard to the manner he approached things. Ronnie is weighing in and he's chasing him for ticket money haha. Boxing is a hard game as in truth all promotors and managers want the same things ££

Re: Barry McGuigan and Anto Cacace
Saw Cacace in 2014 and had him down as one of our brightest prospects.
He really impressed me.
Shame to hear he's having promotional issues. Always 2 sides to every story but it's usually the fighter that loses out in the long run.
Hope he gets everything sorted out soon.

Re: Barry McGuigan and Anto Cacace
McGuigan was my first boxing hero, however his actions in recent years have really put me off him.
I don't know the details of this case, but Barry does come across as though he could be a personal, spiteful and vindictive pudendum.

Re: Barry McGuigan and Anto Cacace
I really hope that Barry McGuigan wouldn't be the type of person to hold a fighter to a contract out of spite to that boxer. He knows as well as anyone that boxing is a short career and no boxer should be made to sit out a contract without very good reason, if you can't do the best for that fighter then do the decent thing and let them earn elsewhere!!
Boxers are not like football players who get paid regardless if they play or not, if they ain't fighting they ain't earning, being involved in the professional side of the sport you do hear stories of this type of thing happening over a clash of personalities or just a silly fall out but imo the BBBoC should step in more to either resolve then issues either way, if it was found out that the manager/promoter was just doing this out of spite then the contract should be made void and if it is found that it is the boxers fault then yes the boxer should be made to sit out his contract, pay his manager for the remainder of his contract out of his future purses if he gets another manager/promoter or a figure should be agreed for the boxer to pay to get released from his contract.
Good boxer Anthony Cacace and it will be sad if he has to sit out a contract when he was just starting to break through to the domestic scene.

Re: Barry McGuigan and Anto Cacace
Barry has that sleekit look about him. Like he would sell his gran to make money.. Someone said up the post its simple his son has Haye and Groves far too busy of a gym to have Cacacae. Instead of letting him get on with his career hes screwing him over. My honest opinion is that he wouldn't be as good without Shane in his corner. Hopefullly they can resolve this
