Spinks was one of the worst decisions in history. You could give Jesse every round and he lost a UD.Syntax Error wrote:Good call.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Have you watched conteh/Burnett? Jesse was so good, even the Brit crowd booed that decision!handsofstone wrote:John Conteh vs Len Hutchins![]()
As much as a I love Conteh (I was practically brought up oh his fights), there is no way he deserved a draw in that fight.
Burnett was robbed big style.

Re: Classic fights I've watched recently
Alexis Arguello vs Ruben Olivares
Good fight with a great finish, classic blend of styles with the taller Arguello and the small bull like Olivares,i thought Alexis picked up an early lead keeping Ruben on the back foot before the tides turned after the halfway stage and Olivares started coming into it and landing some big shots but Arguello didnt half turn it around with that left hook in the 13th,superbly timed shot,i actually had to watch it about 5 times on replay and i still struggled to see it such was the speed it was delivered,Olivares despite being badly hurt fired right back straight away being the warrior that he was but next solid shot from Arguello finished things

Sellers had a war with Alex Stewart too if my memory isn't failing me. Though no obscure fight will ever top LoCicero/Lee.

Matty Clarkson v Travis Dickinson - about as obscure as it gets, but you won't find a more entertaining war than the one these two waged. ![[icon_notworthy.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_notworthy.gif)

Mike Weaver vs John Tate
Incredible turnaround from Weaver,he done next to nothing for the majority of the fight,Tate boxed his ears off for 11 rounds before Mike hurt him in the 12th and had him reeling then Weaver allows John to regain a foothold the next couple of rounds before coming out swinging in the last round and knocking Tate out cold with a left hook,1 of the best 1 punch KO's ive seen

I remember that fight vividly. Tate looked pretty good most of the fight. They were already beginning to hype a Tate-Holmes unification fight before this. Actually would have better for boxing had Tate won and then fought Holmes and then we would have had one champ for a while.

Yeah Holmes was fighting the same night in Vegas against Leroy Jones, the broadcast switched to that after Weaver/Tate and Leonard/GreenAmbling Alp II wrote:I remember that fight vividly. Re: Classic fights I've watched recently
The best fight of the night was Mustafa/M Johnson. Maybe the greatest body assault in history. I think Hearns and Arguello were on the untelevised undercard in Vegas. Sick night. I remember it like it was yesterday because I was punished so my Dad wouldn't let me watch it so I listened to it in bed with my transistor radio that had a TV dial on it. Pretty sure it was a Monday night.handsofstone wrote:Yeah Holmes was fighting the same night in Vegas against Leroy Jones, the broadcast switched to that after Weaver/Tate and Leonard/GreenAmbling Alp II wrote:I remember that fight vividly. Re: Classic fights I've watched recently
I just watched a good one last night. Jimmy Ellis vs. George Chuvalo. Chuvalo outweighed Ellis by 27 lbs., but Ellis was just too fast for George. Chuvalo may have been a little bit past it at 33 (Ellis was 31).
Both fighters gave it their all and it was a good bout. Unfortunately for Ellis, his next fight was with Muhammad Ali, which was the beginning of the end of his career.

It's 4:30am here in Sydney Australia, and I'm currently watching Lionel Rose vs Harada. This fight never gets old.
