George Foreman fought 24 times in his comeback, none of his opponents stood a real chance of winning yet the fans loved him. AJ hasn't beaten anyone decent yet and is a world champ. Prior to Klitschko Fury didn't beat anyone decent either. Wilder hasn't fought anyone decent, so who are all these great fighters Haye should be fighting? Check the top 10, all the names are shite. Haye's aim is to get a title shot in the quickest time possible. Good luck to him is all I can say.

Moving onto Briggs in a way the Briggs fans remind me of the old washed up Tyson fans. I don't doubt Tyson could've feasted on the Zarate's of this world and looked spectacular, the problem was when he fought anyone fairly decent he was beat. The same will happen to Briggs. Don't believe the hype or big talk, the guy is washed up and will get hurt against Haye.
This. :TU: Bruno fought John Emmen and Jose Ribalta.

Larry Holmes fought Tim Anderson, Eddie Gonzalez, Michael Greer, Art Card and Jamie Howe.

Evander Holyfield fought Jeremy Bates.

So many people came back against relatively easy opposition. Tony Tucker did it, Buster Douglas did it, etc etc.

The list goes on.

The suggestion was horrific, not the match.

You would be an abysmal promoter.
You've lost me

why on earth would you think a fight with Briggs represents good promoting?

there are lots of options open.

Team Haye are just going for the gutter route.

it may seem an abysmal thing to suggest but I think more fans can be created through decent fights rather than through pointless crappy ones.

It's a terrible terrible fight. He's beaten pretty much nobody since Sultan Ibragimov beat him nearly a decade ago. He was never a great fighter when he was in his prime. He couldn't even beat a 48 year old George Foreman.

The problem is though. The general public want the fight and David Haye doesn't mind to oblige as it's going to be an easy night for him. Shannon Briggs is pretty much finished after the third round. I like Briggs though and I'm hoping he's going to get a nice payday. I'm also hoping he doesn't end up in hospital again. It would be better for him if his punch resistance was gone. As he's in for a painful and long beating otherwise.

It's a terrible fight but unfortunately it does make sense.

Very good risk vs reward ratio. Easy to promote. A slight step up.

Terrible risk vs reward ratio. Not a well known name over here. A huge step up.

Terrible suggestion.

It's good promoting because I'll bet they make a fortune, and Briggs is very little risk, and can't demand a large payday relatively speaking. If he gets 10% of the total, he'll be very happy, as he was fighting in front of a couple of hundred people last time he fought.

It's a dogshite fight for sure, but I'm sure it's good business.

Yep. His whole career is built up on fighting nobodies, even before he fought Lennox Lewis he got stopped in 3 rounds by Darroll Wilson who two fights later was knocked out in 1 round by Tua. Briggs only asset is power in the early rounds, everytime he has stepped up in class he has lost. He can seem to take a beating though.

Briggs might even tag Haye, you never lose your power and Haye has not got the best chin. Anyone would do better then Haye's last opponent, he showed no offence at all, Briggs will come out swinging.

Yes, Briggs has a puncher's chance. He definitely represents a risk for the first round or two. I suspect Haye will keep him at bay until he starts running out of breath, then start battering him.

Steven Hawking maybe would have been worse. He may have wheeled himself over Dave's foot though, and the fight would have been stopped on a toe injury.

Briggs does tire, but Haye can as well, especially with the weight and the power shots he throws. I would expect Haye to come through though.

Don't want it myself and the Dave show was so rubbish......Haye-Briggs kind of smacks of boxing edging towards the 'Seniors Tour' route with the old fellas making a buck for not really being that good or competitive.

But I can also understand the rationale behind it....David wants to earn, he knows that he needs to remove a great deal of cobwebs and plotting a path back was always going to involve a few of these kind of fights.

So why not Briggs as an 'opponent' who has the added advantage of being a proper showman in his own right and makes sure the papers and social media get engaged?

Bloody hell...I've just talked myself into being half-interested in this

Can't argue with either of those articles; both absolutely spot-on.

Haye has to fight Briggs, because he has given his word that he will fight him.

They were both terrible.

Yea, but in the real world it was a young asmathic contender who fought against the champion of the world and actually won.

Either way, as long as Briggs doesn't lose, it's logic that he starts ringing on bells.
He's simply quite high ranked actually and fought several guys that where ranked in the boxrec top 100 after his Klitschko lose, where he claims to have fought with one arm.

You never lose your power is an odd statement. You 100% do. Bones get brittler, muscles start to wear, nerves react slower.

Well, the adage is in fact, power is the last thing to go, and that's generally true. Reflexes, speed, footwork all seem to go before blunt force.

Haye's been out for a few years. Haye may well not be a real contender any more.

Why fight Pulev when he can fight Joshua for a lot of money without having a major test?

Pulev may well be better than Joshua. Why fight him for hardly anything?

I'm not sure why Haye having a few years out would have such an impact. He's only 35, if anything 3 years out is less wear and tear.

Provided there's no problems with his shoulder, I fail to see why he would have declined - modern heavyweights are practically in their prime at 35.
