So, what's up with Ward ?
I don't see any news on his next opponent. Is he going to have another warm-up fight at 175? If yes, and they want to fight a decent LHW, shouldn't they have found that opponent by now?
Re: So, what's up with Ward ?
I doubt that you can expect Ward to announce his next opponent 2 months after his previous fight. He only fights like once every 7 months, and he probably announces about 1-2 months before the fight, so you can expect to wait 3-4 more months before any legit announcement. In the meantime, you might hear some disinformation about him contemplating fighting Kovalev, but it won't pan out.

He is expected to fight Kovalev in November, so he probably needs to have his previous fight by August ...

Cleverly and other real light heavies need time to cut weight, so they won't take a fight with a two and probably even four-week notice.Stuarty30 wrote:Cleverly lolRiddick Blowe wrote:will probably be a tomato can that close to kovalev.
Re: So, what's up with Ward ?
wards just chilling before he gets busted by kovalev
Re: So, what's up with Ward ?
He was actually due to fight on the Burns v Di Rocco card this weekend but he looks to have either called off or he's been pulled.boxing_rocks wrote:Cleverly and other real light heavies need time to cut weight, so they won't take a fight with a two and probably even four-week notice.Stuarty30 wrote:Cleverly lolRiddick Blowe wrote:will probably be a tomato can that close to kovalev.

In fairness Cleverly wouldn't be at bad before Kovalev.
Kovalev v Ward better happen .....the sport needs it bad after the crap with Canelo

Just wait for Ward to pull Canelo and not want to be "rushed" into the fight.Naandrew wrote:In fairness Cleverly wouldn't be at bad before Kovalev.

P.S. By the way, Floyd has discouraged both of them from fighting those better opponents.
Re: So, what's up with Ward ?
If I'm not mistaken I'm sure there is a HBO agreement that he has to fight him otherwise he wouldn't be on HBO in the first place. Like they only showed Cotto v Geale providing he fought Canelo next.boxing_rocks wrote:Just wait for Ward to pull Canelo and not want to be "rushed" into the fight.Naandrew wrote:In fairness Cleverly wouldn't be at bad before Kovalev.

Ward had a contract with Goossen too. Didn't prevent him from suing and walking away.Naandrew wrote:If I'm not mistaken I'm sure there is a HBO agreement that he has to fight him otherwise he wouldn't be on HBO in the first place. Yeah, like Ward, unbeaten since he was 12 years old, is shaking in his bootys at the thought of taking on some walk-in Russian slugger (who has lost a slew of bouts since he was 12) who couldn't out think Ward in the ring if he had 3 brains.

Ward lost a fight as a teenager in California, for the record

Like it matters how they fought as kids or amateurs. By the way, Ward lost to "some walk-in Uzbek slugger" in the Olympic semi-final and got a gift decision. This "some walk-in Russian slugger" was supposed to be schooled by Hopkins as it was predicted by many (I am sure you included). He is also better and stronger than anybody Ward ever faced.SenorPipino wrote:Yeah, like Ward, unbeaten since he was 12 years old, is shaking in his bootys at the thought of taking on some walk-in Russian slugger (who has lost a slew of bouts since he was 12) who couldn't out think Ward in the ring if he had 3 brains.

It looks like it may be Cleverly, but SMW Brand is still being considered

Ward should fight someone who would have a chance. Cleverly, Brand or Skogland would be no threat whatsoever.
Someone like Shabranskyy, Beterbiev, Gvozdyk, Alvarez, or Fonfara would be better than shot Cleverly, small journeyman Brand or feather-fisted Skogland.

At first glance I thought you were joking about Brand, but looks like it's true!

Does it really matter who Ward fights next?
Do you honestly believe that anyone would have a chance to upend him?
If you say "yes" then your bias is showing.

Re: So, what's up with Ward ?
To me, it matters because it may say about his intentions to fight Kovalev. By even considering Brand, he makes me doubt even more that we will ever see him in the ring with the Krusher.SenorPipino wrote:Freedom2013 wrote:boxing_rocks wrote:SMW Brand is still being considered![]()
