WBC grants Wilder permission to schedule voluntary title defenses until Povetkin mess is ironed out
That's very good news.
Hopefully, Wilder's people & his promoter Debella can get a TV date & schedule something soon.
Let's hope so. I'd hate to see an entire training camp wasted.
The only trouble I can see is finding an opponent that the 'BC will OK who's not already tied up with another with another fight & who hasn't just suffered a loss or who hasn't already been beaten by Wilder recently.
The only ones who fit the bill are Pulev, Andy Ruiz & Gerald Washington.
Jennings wouldn't be a bad opponent either, but not coming off of two consecutive losses.

It can't be Ruiz unless Golden Boy and Haymon are back on speaking terms.

Nonsense.Horse wrote:He should have just fought Povetkin.
Boxing gets a bad enough rap as it is, without major governing bodies sanctioning a fight involving a man who recently failed a drugs test.

Nobody failed anything until the investigation is over. Povetkin tested positive but under a certain limit which doesn't cause automatic DQ. Theoretically, that could be traces of what he took before the ban.keirw wrote:Nonsense.Horse wrote:He should have just fought Povetkin.

He should just fight Pulev, a credible win, and I don't think Pulev should trouble Wilder too much.

It's a question the prosecution will hit him with should it go to court. Obviously he was in fighting shape last year and that means he was healthy so then begs the question why.

PEDs failure. Remember?Horse wrote:He should have just fought Povetkin.
The fight couldn't go on.
Believe me, if Ryabinskiy could have forced the issue, he certainly would have done so.

Pulev is acceptable
Washington marginally but at least hes unbeaten and big
Ruiz is 6ft and way too fat plus he's been protected way too much to be any good.
id like to see Jennings...but he maybe needs a warm up. last chance saloon fight with Charles martin?

Agree with this--if Pulev's side is up for it that's the one to make.BitPlayer wrote:He should just fight Pulev, a credible win, and I don't think Pulev should trouble Wilder too much.
It would be a career-best win for Deontay and probably get him a fair bit of credit. Kubrat is overrated IMO and I think he's a bit fragile, not to mention that he doesn't have much power and would struggle to get Deontay's respect even if the latter doesn't take a great shot. That straight up, pull right back style of Pulev's would make him a sucker for the right hand in my view.

Pulev would be the highest rated guy that interests me. He would lose to Parker, so why not go for a title and bigger pay day.

Ok, that response would get him a guilty verdict if it was court. Obviously you don't know.boxing_rocks wrote:He had all rights to take legal substances.foxdog1923 wrote:Would you happen to know why he took it?boxing_rocks wrote:

It doesn't answer why a perfectly healthy individual would take Meldonium.

Meldonium was as legal as protein drinks, vitamins and other stuff like that. You can't get a guilty verdict for doing legal things. Of course he was taking it, because he thought that it would help to improve something, but once again, it was perfectly legal.

Meldonium is why there is no fight, you clearly have difficulty understanding this.boxing_rocks wrote:Meldonium was as legal as protein drinks, vitamins and other stuff like that. Meldonium improves performance by way of increased energy. This is why Povetkin took it. Also him and his team were aware it was to be banned. If the prosecutors look to pin him for Performance Enhancing Drugs, they will ask why and he's got to have a reasonable response. If not then punishment time.

You can't be punished for taking a LEGAL drug which some think may be performance enhancing. Protein drinks, vitamins and healthy food are also performance enhancing. Asthma medications are thought to be performance enhancing, so many athletes fake asthma. The legal process is all about technicalities. They would have to prove that he took meldonium after Jan 1st in order to punish him.foxdog1923 wrote:Meldonium is why there is no fight, you clearly have difficulty understanding this.boxing_rocks wrote:Meldonium was as legal as protein drinks, vitamins and other stuff like that. WBC, non officially, gave their decision regarding Povetkin - no championship fight for him this year, at least.
Actually, it takes at least 2 months to arrange Wilder next fight, so August. 5-6 months to recover...and we are in Jan 2017.

If that's true, I expect them to lose a lawsuit soon.boxing_rocks wrote:Source ?bigman1968 wrote:WBC, non officially, gave their decision regarding Povetkin - no championship fight for him this year, at least.
I really wonder how the WBC came up with this top 15...
Stiverne rank 2? I can name guys that aren't in the boxrec top 100 that can beat him.
Pulev would make Stiverne look like a joke, Chagaev way too old, Molina?? Scott??
Where is Ortiz? Where is Parker? Hughie Fury? Jun Long Zhang? Granat? Whyte? And what is Washington doing in this list? He seems like the weakest of all, I expect Wilder to like him above all.

WADA law is not government law, so we are playing word games with the term "legal".boxing_rocks wrote:You can't be punished for taking a LEGAL drug which some think may be performance enhancing. Protein drinks, vitamins and healthy food are also performance enhancing
russia's FDA is almost non-existant. if something isn't criminal to buy, then it is probably
available over the counter in pill or powder or whatever form. there are no protein drinks,
supplements, or foods with meldonium as an ingredient, and comparing meldonium with
suppplements or things normally found in the food supply is twisted. you're telling me
if last fall i took out a soup spoon and handed it to you full of a powder (like the stuff you're
comparing it to) and told you to eat it, and when you asked i told you it was medonium,
you would have eagerly ate it? even right now i seriously doubt you know what meldonium
could do to your heart rhythm and blood pressure and serious ellergic reactions. povetkin
did NOT get this crap in protein powder. he got it from a doctor, either directly or indirectly,
and so did all those other russians. they don't just start eating random chemicals from under
the kitchen sink hoping it will make them better athletes. the russians sports federations had
doctors prescribing this stuff and monitoring the athletes. that is how povetkin got it.
sharapova was even more ridiculous when she claimed "a family doctor" (in latvia, where it
is made) prescribed it, even though she has been living full time in the usa since she
was like 7 years old and meldonium is not an FDA approved drug. coincidentally,
after testing positive for it, povetkin claims the last time he took it was EXACTLY when
WADA notified the federations and coaches to stop using it, almost to the day. why didn't
he mention it before testing positive? ryabinsky was trying to avoid testing at wada labs
months ago after winnning the purse bid, claiming that he would find his own european
lab to do the testing. they all already knew this could be an issue back then and tried
to lie and cheat around it, but it didn't work.

Povetkin has been suspect for awhile, so it's no suprise. At least he got caught.
