(I think) Floyd fights Danny Garcia for 50th

Post by Fightdoctor »

All this talk about Floyd fighting Conor McGregor is merely a smokescreen and attention grabber. Floyd's next fight, assuming he wins, would make him ARGUABLY the greatest boxer of the modern era. He will not jeopardize his legacy by getting to 50-0 against a novice boxer with no professional boxing experience. He will however fight a young bull. A true proven champion. Preferably undefeated. Well known. With a style that 40 year old Floyd can defeat with relatively minor risk. The fight will take place at welterweight. There's a number of undefeated Champs at 147 lbs; Brook, Thurman and Garcia. Brook possesses the skill set and power to upset Floyd. Thurman has the punching power to alter and possibly end the fight at any time although Floyd could outbox him with ease. Garcia has had the most exposure of the three
. He is a decent boxer but lacks the power at 147 lbs that he showed at Junior Welterweight. He is also part of the Haymon family. This makes Danny Garcia the front runner to face Floyd for 50.

I know Floyd would be a huge favorite over Danny Garcia, but I'd like to point what should be obvious. When you're a fighter who's biggest asset was his speed and timing, and you're nearing 40. You're a whole lot more beatable than you used to be.

Not if you have a good chin and friendly judges.

Floyd doesn't always have friendly judges. He won a MD against Canelo when it should've been Unanimous. He won an SD against De La Hoya when it should've been Unanimous.

Castillo 1 is the only time he had blatantly bias judging in his favor.

Garcia has had friendly judging on his side too. Ask Mauricio Herrera.

It would be so much more meaningful if he waited for the winner of thirman V porter and then that winner fights brook V vargas. Unify the titles and generate interest from both the casuals and the purists.

Garcia doesn't interest me ar all, at least not against floyd. It's so obvious how that match turns out, Garcia is flat footed, slow, lacks power and technique but has a lot of heart and stamna. Floyd has made a career out of beating boxers like that. Garcia vs vargas or thurman would be kind if interesting though, or a Khan rematch.

Pretty much signed and sealed.

Garcia-Floyd in September.

He trademarked loads of phrases along the lines of Floyd50-0 and TBE50-0 last month.

Floyd has had some interesting scores in even his clear victories. 119-109 against Judah?

I didn't remember the scores in that fight, but yeah that's ridiculous. Judah won at least 3 or 4 rounds in that fight.
