Crolla v Flanagan
Crolla v Flanagan
How likely is the Manchester world title unification to happen, given the rival promoters?
What kind of crowd can this fight draw?
How big a star in Manchester can the winner become?
And how do people see the fight going?
I'm a huge fan of Crolla, really enjoyed watching his hard career - so many exciting fights along the way - and seeing him put it all together in those razor sharp beatings of Perez and Baroso. Really impressed by his repertoire of punches and I like how he's always in position to land the body shots, to which he punches with great accuracy and insistence. Never seen Flanagan but I presume the southpaw boxing will present Crolla some issues.

Think crolla is a bigger star in manchester and has more about him. Iv only watched terry flannaghan twice and wasnt impressed by either where as crolla has impressed me a good few times in his career. Against derry mathews flannaghan was scared to get hit wer crolla came to fight in both contests with derry
Re: Crolla v Flanagan
Can't see it happening any time soon which is a shame 2 fighters same weight from same school with belts!
Flangan would win easy in my opinion

Re: Crolla v Flanagan
I'd pick Crolla at the moment.
Doubt it will happen though.

That's true, although Crolla didn't manage to beat Derry in either fight, whereas Flanagan did.thechump wrote:Think crolla is a bigger star in manchester and has more about him. Re: Crolla v Flanagan
As much as I like and respect Crolla And don't doubt his toughness I actually think Flanagan would win comfortably .
It's a fight that really should be happening but unfortunately the promotional issues will get in the way . Added to that I think the bottom line is that Gallagher ( not Crolla ) doesn't fancy his man and wants to go a different route.

Re: Crolla v Flanagan
Flanagan is very very underrated in my opinion
Re: Crolla v Flanagan
Imo their is more of a chance we will see flannigan fight Liam walsh before crolla. Easier to make and keeps the title inhouse
Re: Crolla v Flanagan
I think Crolla is razor sharp, improving with every fight, has a pretty deep level of experience - and that he has the tools to grind down solid southpaw boxers.
Flanagan does sound like the "wrong" style for Crolla but Crolla's body punching has been very impressive of late and could be the key. Also like the perseverance of Crolla, overcoming many setbacks such as defeats to Al Hamidi and underwhelming Prize Fighter result to pick up domestic and world titles. His trainer, whom BoxRec posters seem to have an issue with, must be doing something right.
As has been said, you can't have two world title holders at the same weight not only in the same country but representing the same town. It has to happen and - encouragingly - we have been served the domestic fights we demanded, like Joshua v Whyte and frampton v Quigg. So the promoters like Hearn - always ridiculed on here - must be doing something right, as well.

Why don't you just watch a fight or two on YouTube?Autobarn wrote:Never seen Flanagan but I presume the southpaw boxing will present Crolla some issues.
Re: Crolla v Flanagan
Fascinating fight...if it happened.
I think it would be the toughest test of Flanagan's career. Terry seems to be able to rise to the occasion each time he faces a step up in class and Crolla, who's in amazing form, is a step.

Re: Crolla v Flanagan
Crolla is the biggest draw and would probably need a 60/40 split in his favour
I fancy Flanagan to win on points but can't see the fight happening as it needs to happen now as I can see one of them losing their title in the next year.
Flanagan-Verdejo is a fight that I see happening in the next year.

Re: Crolla v Flanagan
Do people think it's more likely they get their big fights elsewhere - Crolla with perhaps Linares, etc?

I dont understand how crolla has improved so much from where he was a few years ago, I dont get it at all.
Anyway I think Flanagan would beat him.

Re: Crolla v Flanagan
Saw a few days ago that some bookmakers have this fight listed on the same date as a fight between Brook and Vargas.
Unification getting announced at a press conference next week apparently. Possibly putting two and two together, might be Jack v DeGale but it is apparently gonna be in the UK.

Flanagan on points for me but I like both guys.

Read a thing today and Hearn was saying the Brook v Vargas fight more or less sorted for Sheffield Utds ground in August.jameswilson wrote:Saw a few days ago that some bookmakers have this fight listed on the same date as a fight between Brook and Vargas.

Re: Crolla v Flanagan
Don't get the impression that Gallagher and Hearn, particularly Gallagher, are that keen on the fight so I wouldn't be that confident. Hearn could be convinced if the numbers are right, but Gallagher was immediately trying to deflect any talk of the fight and start talking about fighting Linares in Vegas because of some daft bucket list he's got for Crolla.
Fill the arena with ease, got everything you could want in a fight.
If they don't play the football angle too much and alienate the other side then the winner would be a huge name in Manchester, obviously not Hatton levels but enough to be drawing big crowds regularly.
Flanagan, late stoppage or wide on points.

Re: Crolla v Flanagan
I think FW has made positive noises that it does not absolutely have to be a allegedly fight and that the 'platform' does not need to be the brick wall that stops the fight from being discussed/negotiated. He's kind of made the first move.
How often these guys with speak each other and whether they can do a deal like this remains to be seen...presumably FW would want a more than decent cut of whatever is made on Sky?
Personally, I can't pick a winner between TF or AC.
Flanagan just seems seems so strong, assured and solid that I make him a slight favourite...but Crolla knows how to win fights and is a constant surprise; the improvements he has made are enormous.
Hopefully Hearn Jr and FW go out for a long, boozy lunch somewhere 'up west' and do a deal over a brandy

Re: Crolla v Flanagan
My first thought was that Flanagan takes this but then Crolla has much more experience in closely-matched fights, and I wonder if that might be a big factor in this one.
Re: Crolla v Flanagan
I also think his physique and stamina have massively improved. Not to accuse someone but it doesn't seem an unreasonable to assume he's getting some extra help.littlepug wrote:he learned from his losses just like the old school boxers used to doThereByTheGrace wrote:I dont understand how crolla has improved so much from where he was a few years ago, I dont get it at all.
