Stoppin nosebleeds

Post by bluehorizon »

I was looking to get advice from some other fighters/ trainers/ cutmen out there on how to stop nose bleeds from occuring. It seems like this is a frequent thing for me when I spar. I mean I guess I could make sure I don't get hit but sometimes the lightest hits will get it going. It's usually in the winter when this happens and my doctor thinks it has to do with winter sinuses but I don't know. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Try using Vick Spray (that's the brand name over here anyway!) before you spar. It's a nasal decongestant that works by opening up the airways and at the same time constricting the blood vessels.

I used to have a similar problem, and when I turned pro it continued. I had my nose cauterized after my 2nd pro fight, and it hardly ever bleeds. This is a procedure your regular doctor will refer you to an ENT specialist for. It is a simple, and inexpensive procedure. My insurance covered it, and it only cost me a $20 co-pay. They take what looks like a long wooden matchstick that has - i forget for sure, but think it is sodium nitrate??? - and locate larger blood vessels in the nasal cavity that look like they open up easy. They press this stick to it, and it burns the vessel so that it won't bleed anymore. There isn't any pain, just discomfort from having that stick up your nose. I was sparring 5 days later.
