What's your culture got to do with it?

There's hard men all over the world from all different walks of life.

What we can say without a doubt is that Eubank Sr was one of the toughest men ever to set foot in the ring, absolutely no doubt - Saunders, we have yet to see just how tough he is, we've not seen him have to go to the well yet.
Well my own culture is a very small ethnic minority,it has just over one million population in the uk ,they say UK boxing is doing the best its ever done with 12 world champions ,interestingly tho two of them are gypsies !
But as a very small minority we are also dominating the amateurs they say ,we have also had a fighter in the UFC , tell me another small ethnic minority with just over a one million population that has had 2 world champion boxers in the same year ?
I would love to know the math on these stats apposed to other ethnic races ,be interesting ,who's up there with gypsies ?
To be frank, I couldn't give a fiddler's fart where a fighter is from, it has no relation to what I think of them.
so you got no answer to me then ?

Too be honest i , find this hard to understand ,, MY culture , what does that mean ,, Don't mean this offensivly but i just don't regard gypsy's / travellers has anything other than English ,, Irish ,, scots or welsh .. British for want of a better word dependending where there born ,, now i know a lot may have born in England and love to claim there irish roots .. But myself i'm English ,, why because i was born in England ,,, my parents , and grandparents were all irish , cos they were born in ireland ,, Now has far has i know , irish travellers and English travellers all go to the same schools we speak the same language , and we get the same child support welfare and for those of us who pay tax we pay the same percentage .

I just can't see why they seem to think they have a different culture . I don't know but can't help but think its a bit of a romantic idea in there heads , about there lifestyle , they just love to think there a persacuted minority and shout racist , everyone hates me ,,
Christ i know people who claim to be gypsys and theve never seen the inside of a caravan in there life .
But yet My parents and my dads brother and wife , went to Australia in the late 60''s they both bought a caravan there and lived in them travelling around Australia for 30 years, , when they came back to the UK they bought a caravan put it on a holiday site and lived in that for 9 months of the year , and went back to oz for the other 3 months , now being Irish , i suppose you could say they were travellers ,, But they certainly did'nt regard themselves has gypsys . And i certainly don't and one thing i do know id different culture they definetly were not .

Not saying they don't live a different lifestyle but so do others , Billy Joe , he has horses but so do a lot of other rich people .My mates wife has 4 , 2 for her and the kids have one each ,, there not gypsys , just like horses /

We used to have a fair that came to our town every May in the 80`s. It was run by travelers or gypsies, or whatever you want to call them.

They used to cause total havoc for the time they were there. We used to be scrapping with them all the time. These lot didn`t know the first thing about about the supposed gypsy code of fighting men.

If you were in a fight with one of them, they`d all jump in. Never let a fight run it`s course without steaming in mob handed.

If there was any "racism" going on back in them days, it was from their side. They used to detest the locals on the basis that we were not gypsies. Horrible bunch of fackers.

As I got older I lived in Newcastle for a few years. Used to work laying tarmac with a gypsy mob for a while. Cracking bunch of blokes to be fair.

The only problem with them was that if you went out on the lash with them there was always trouble.

Excatly ,, and it was a us and them , Us that live together and them over there attitude , when i was younger worked has a doorman and when you ocasionaly got gypsys in mob handed , you knew you were going to work for your money that night . But it was the same if the Jocks were down for a football match ,, (probably the worst i ever had to deal with ).. If you got the cockneys up for a footbal match it could be havoc .. But the ones we used to have it more regular with were vietnamese , You never seemed to notice how many were in, till they all congregated on the dance floor , and start jumping around like monkeys in a cage , and sooner ar later someone would object to being bumped and it would go off ...But like i said its not culture its just life.

No doubt plenty will disagree , but kids being brought up on caravan sites and taking certain attitudes too life , are no different from kids on council estates who are taught the same values .. and your quite correct ,, i know of a couple of gypsy famillys who sprout about honor , fighting in the blood bla bla bla ,, but if they lose its off to get the familly and mates and don't have any shame in going you mob handed

Ive grown up around plenty of 'settled' first and second generation travellers. These kids were no different to me at all. Two of my uncles married in to gypsy families and my best mate did too.
There's a recent strange obsession with gypsies and Irish travellers ( two completely different people by the way, romany gypsies actually descend from a certain area in India I believe. The Irish don't have any particular different DNA from the local population in Ireland )
For every loaded traveller who has a nice car and a bit of flash jewellery there are ten who aren't. Ive been on some horrible sites, one in particular in Greenwich, near the local tarmac plant. It's quite sad seeing kids living in such squalor, I wouldn't let a dog live there.

I recognise Romany gypsies as an ethnic minority, even if they were no different to me and my other pals who grew up with them. Irish travellers are a different story though.

By the way there's a difference between travellers and 'show people' ( fairground ) I believe. I know travellers who look down on show people for whatever reason. Maybe cigano can shed some lit on this?

There some good points made ,but some ignorant ones to , some people don't seem know the difference between an ethnic minority in (gypsies) and a non ethnic minority in showmen/fairground people ,the latter actually are a culture bred from normal house dwelling people so in fact from the very same race of people that are ridiculing them above LOL
I am a landlord of a couple of properties that i rent out ,I have had tennants that are poor payers an turn my houses in to pig-styes,going by some peoples logic should I not judge everyone born from a house the same as the one or two tenants that have left a bad taste in my mouth ?

Well, that's not going to happen I can assure you. I am opinionated, and that's how I was brought up to be.

As I said, the ethnic background of a fighter just isn't relevant to me - I don't support or not support someone based on their ethnicity, I support them based on whether or not I enjoy watching them fight.

I'm not going to get into some ethnic dissection of the number of world champs, because to me, it's just not relevant.

My family is all Irish, does that mean I rooted for every Irish boxer growing up, no it didn't, because I wasn't brought up to believe that I should support people based on the fact they are 'my people.'

What on earth are you talking about? There's absolutely no grounds for a lawsuit here.

Utter cobblers, there will be no lawsuit.
I don't know what world you live in, but in the real world you can sue for almost anything ? Since when did you become a Solicitor lol.
In the US maybe. The legal system in the UK is a little different- if a solicitor/barrister wants to correct me on that though, by all means.

Hey mate, you know that field opposite where McDonald's is around our way right? I remember when I was about 16, a bunch of travellers parked up on the land and there's a footpath that goes behind the cemetery as you'll undoubtedly know. Anyway, there was human shite all over the footpath behind the cemetery and all over the footpath on the field. It's like they deliberately shit all over the path. It was fornicating revolting. You cant tar all travellers with the same brush but that was truly vile.

Your correct ,, Now if you were from a Romany background ,, and had dark skin your wife wore a long flowered dress and a scarf , you played the violin and you all danced around the campfire at night , clapping and singing , In the day you worked at shoeing horses , your kids sold trinkets , pots and pans , and your missis told fortunes ,, Then yes call it a different culture , and romantacise it all you want .

But if you talk with an irish accent , just live on a site while most of your familly live in council houses , i don't really think its the same . Most travellers or people who like to refer to themselves has travellers , live in houses anyway

Oh and just checked my posts last 2 posts only put the word has in twice ,,, does'nt take a lot to do your head in does it , I'd take an asprin , go have a lie down and try not to worry
