Adrian Broner is listed on the WBA website as Super Champ. Jose Benavidez is Interim Champ (Ranked 1st). De Rocco is rated Number 2. Burns is rated 14. Why isnt Benavidez fighting De Rocco next, or one of the twelve other boxers ranked above Burns. Its an absolute shambles, and renders this "World Title" fight totally pointless in my eyes. Burns hasnt beaten any boxer in the WBAs top thirteen.

No doubt the fight will be put to Cornish. Just a question of if he wants it or not. Hopefully Josh Taylor is on the bill too but I don't know if that'll be a possibility with him being with Cyclone.

As far as i was concerned Burns career at world level was finished but this is a great oppurtunity which i make him slight favourite,fans and judges might just give him that boost that he'll need,as much as it pains me to say it i still think as far as world level is concerned Ricky's finished but Di Rocco is European level about the same as Burns so he will never get another oppurtunity like this to become a 3 weight world champ,if Broner hadnt been stripped then i would regard this as a paper title but seeing as the WBA dont have another champ at SLW then i'll accept him as a genuine 3 weight titlist if he wins

Losing to Crawford was no disgrace obviously and the Zlatacanin loss wasnt bad either in hindsight but its the wins he's picked up since tey losses that worry me about what Burns actually has left,people were impressed with the Figueroa defeat and i was to an extent but he holds and spoils far too much these days for my liking and that loses rounds and isnt good to watch,i havent seen Di Rocco before but he has a decent enough Euro-level CV,he got KO'd by Lauri years ago but avenged that on points,i never seen the fight with Daws when he won the European title but remember the hullabaloo about the shenanigans in his corner and Lenny was supposidly unlucky that night,funnily enough Di Rocco's last defence was against Lepelley who Burns beat over 8 last year

Hard to gauge how good Di Rocco is without seeing him but he's no spring chicken and i reckon thre crowd will pull Burns through a gruelling fight to make a bit of Scottish history

The Italian scene has given us little to get excited about for a very long time.

As to Burns, he surprised the boxing world with that wonderful win over Martinez and peaked in the Michell fight. Then that was it, people figured out how to fight him and once Beltran chinned him he was fair game. Who trades with a Mexican in the early rounds? (Jamie McDonnell showed how to do it, around the same time, vs Julio Ceja - start sensibly, work your way into it, trade on your own terms when you're in charge, and then rally to put your foe in place for the strong finish that always looks good).

This is clever work by the promoter getting this opportunity . But up in weight, can Burns do it? Ricky just won't go away but maybe a defeat will finally convince him?

That said, hope for a good fight whatever happens. But wish Hearn would put on some shows headlined by Jamie McDonnell, a fighter who is current, than Burns, a fighter of the past.

I've just noticed Burns has this fight this weekend.... for a world title, again. The Italian is 40-1 , but it's his first crack at a world title - and many of his 40 wins look like Italian non-Stallions. Surely he's got a real chance to win.

While i agree with you on a whole,as a proud Scot i will be claiming this as a legit vacant world title fight since Broner gave his title back to the WBA

Not sure on that, Provo does the same thing over and over again. I think Ricky will be too smart and maybe stop him

Stopping him would be very impressive...Provo has a superhuman chin and not even flush shots from Matthysse, who punches much harder than Ricky, seemed to bother him.

He does mark up fairly easily though and could be vulnerable to a cuts/swelling TKO.
