Jack Dempsey v. Mike Tyson

Post by iceman21287 »

Who wins this battle between two of the greatest sluggers in the history of boxing? This would be a 15 round fight of course :D

I personally think that it could go either way. If Dempsey drops Tyson first then it's all over. Tyson doesn't have the mental make up to come back from a knock down. He would start to freak out and either go cannibal on Dempsey (:D) or just quit. If Tyson drops Dempsey first then I think Dempsey would have only a small chance of coming back, as Tyson has proven that he is just as good a finisher as anyone in boxing.

If I were to put it at odds, I'd say that if the fight lasts under 6 rounds, then Tyson has a 60 percent chance of winning, but if it goes over 6 rounds, then Tyson only has about a 20 to 30 percent chance of winning. Overall, I favor Dempsey to win it, but I'd give him about a 60 percent chance of winning.

Jack had great pace control and agression. Would take Tyson to deep water and drop him off. :box: :box:

Dempsey would make the early rounds rough brawling affairs in close, and use his great strength to tie Tyson up and abet that early fight aggression Tyson was famous for. A vastly superior infighter, Dempsey would be working Tyson's ribcage harder then anyone Tyson has fought, and match Mike foul for foul. When it got to the center ring, Dempsey would use his superior jab and reach to close the distance again. By round 7, Tyson would be exhausted and frustrated, and ripe for a knockout loss.

Tyson wins in a 2nd rnd KO. Too fast and strong for Dempsey to handle in the early going. I dont see Tyson even getting hit flush, he was so damn fast (upper body). Once Tyson could take control in the 2nd he would finish him off.

On the basis of Dempseys 1st rnd Ko loss to Jim Flynn, Tyson KO1. In a matchup of sluggers Tyson would be too strong, too quick, too powerful, too skillful, and would have too good a chin

Dempsey wings his punches way too wide to either catch a prime Tyson or aviod being hit with huge counters.

You know as well as I that in 10 fights that night, Tyson would win 9. Douglas faught the perfect fight and Mike was not taking it seriously at all.

Dempsey shows up with loaded gloves so Tyson retaliates and eats his hands.

No, I don't know that. That's just what Tyson nuthuggers say. What I do know is that Buster Douglas won 100% of the fights he had with Mike Tyson.
so head to head, you would have Douglas higher than Tyson? Come on now, you are smarter than that.

im just saying that in that one night in that moment in time Douglas was ripe to beat Mike. His mothers recent death was a big motivator, he was in top shape and the man he was facing was totally unprepared from himself to his trainers. I know Tyson had trouble against big "Boxers", but Douglas was never the same after that nite. If he had done something after that nite I would agree with you that he could beat Mike regularly. If Douglas came in that nite like he did against Holyfield what would have happened? Tyson KO 4
Ill make no excuses for the rest of Mikes career, but Douglas is not in the same class as Tyson.

this is true, but he could still box well enough and score flash knockdowns to beat better "boxers" when he was moving like he did in the late 80s. I dont even know how Douglas a "boxer" got into a thread about Tyson vs Dempsey!

Here is a few points to look at for this 'fantasy fight' :TU:

Dempsey-

-Had trouble with movers, but this won't be the case in this fight
-Dempsey would sometimes fade in the middle rounds
-Dempsey could get off the floor to win
-Is just as fast and possibly hits just as hard as Tyson does
-Dempsey could handle pressure and was tough

Tyson-

-Also had trouble with movers of less ability than Dempsey's opponents, but in this fight that will not be the case
-Tyson in his later career faded after the first 3-4 rounds, but a prime Tyson was never really tested so there is questions of stamina
-Never proved he could get up off the floor to win
-Never really proved he could handle pressure in his prime, and when he was pressed he drew a blank until he saw an opening, he was beatn by both Holyfield and Douglas because they kept the pressure on him.

In my opinion, Dempsey would beat Tyson by KO in around 8 rounds. :TU:
