A simple Joe Louis question

Post by Matchfixer »

Obviously I have seen this guy's name loads of times but have always wondered how it is pronounced.

It reads (Loo-ee) but I have also heard it pronounced (by the Weakest Link presenter :) ) as Lewis.

Can anyone help me out here ?

I've found American's have a tendency to pronounce French words their own way. I remember hearing Georges Carpentier's manager (Francois Deschamps) pronunced as "dez-chah-mps", when of course it's really "day-shau".

Er, I think.
