If you had to pick 1, which boxer trained the hardest?
If you had to pick 1, which boxer trained the hardest?
no disrespect to old school boxers, i know they trained like freaks, but to me nobody trained harder than floyd and pac. these thousands of crunches pac made, those daily routines without 0 pauses from floyd and this from first till last fight, you never, never saw these guys out of shape. if i had to pick 1, it would be pac, i havea feeling he ran more than floyd, he did more crunches and he did simply punched more and with more energy during mitt work, sparring etc..

Maybe frazier. He had a sickening stamina for a heavyweight. And that never stop coming forward style is especially physically and mentally draining imo.

based on actual output, Marciano has to be up there.
By all accounts he trained like an absolute demon, and he generated phenomenal power for a man of his size. He also could fight for every second of every round. His stamina was simply phenomenal.
I do think a fair amount of it comes down to genetics, some people are just naturally blessed with stamina.

They all got to the top of the tree by training like demons. Champions are made in the gym not in the ring

PEDs can help to. It's most people's first assumption when a fighter consistently throws 100 punches a round.jamesmcdonnell wrote:based on actual output, Marciano has to be up there.

Wasn't Philip Holiday a triathlete while he had his boxing career?

Most of us aren't privy to this info but I voted for Hagler because I know he was a Spartan trainer.

I think it's probably Mayweather. I think he was 100% ready in each and every physical aspect of the game for all his 49 pro fights. Say what you want about Floyd, but he is true professional. But I think most of the great fighters were hard workers too. Some of them don't get enough credit and are billed as "lazy" by some people just because they come undertrained for 1-2 fights in their career. Good example is Lennox Lewis. James Ali Bashir, who worked with Emanuel Steward as his assistant for 24 years, said in one of his interviews that Lewis was a workaholic and trained really, really hard. Here is what he said:
"Lennox Lewis has always been a self-motivated guy. You didn't have to do a lot to get him mentally involved. He was a true professional in every aspect of the word. I was there for many of those big fight camps. This guy was self-motivated and he was a hard worker. Lennox Lewis is the only heavyweight in recent memory that could rival the Klitschkos when it comes to work ethic. This guy was a workaholic. In fact, the only time him and Emanuel would have anything close to a dispute was when Manny was trying to stop him from doing so much work. He would try to propel some of the action and say, "Look, you need to take a break." And even when Manny would tell him to take a break, he would still find a way to do some work, even if it was just riding a bike up some mountains. He would always find a way to justify himself getting some work in. he is the only heavyweight in recent memory that could rival the Klitschkos, and it could have been insecurities, or whatever it was, it equaled work. Some guys work hard because they are insecure about their ability or they ability to take punishment, but whatever it was, at the end of the day, it equaled work ethic and Lennox Lewis was that kind of guy. And something else I know about Lennox Lewis too is if someone succeeded in making him nervous, they was gonna regret it in the ring".

Froch had incredible stamina, dangerous until the last second of the fight, just ask Taylor.
Re: If you had to pick 1, which boxer trained the hardest?
Very true! His two fights with Kessler were exhausting just watching em! On the flip side Calzaghe was a very fit man. Dunno how he trained but he seemed to glide through fights...jamesmcdonnell wrote:Froch had incredible stamina, dangerous until the last second of the fight, just ask Taylor.

I picked Hagler. Apparently he just used to lock himself away in camps and have hardly any contact with anyone.

Lots of hill running apparently. His dad was apparently a very hard taskmaster.Stuarty30 wrote:Very true! His two fights with Kessler were exhausting just watching em! Anthony Joshua... With his 14 rounds of sparring... Weight lifting... Flexibility drills... Speed drills... Agility drills... bag punching... focus pad punching, and overall dedication to fitness, strength, and learning the Science of Boxing, he may train harder than any boxer in History ... He's also very inventive and develops new methods of training not tried before.
Re: If you had to pick 1, which boxer trained the hardest?
It would be hard to say without attending training camps but when I think of hard working disciplined fighters Bernard Hopkins comes to mind.

Good shout. I don't think anyone does it as much as Bernard. Dude keeps his diet even when he isn't fighting.

discipline, yes x i the total professional, but floyd and pac simply had more intensinty, while doing small or 0 pauses...just machines
Re: If you had to pick 1, which boxer trained the hardest?
For today's fighters. Bradley has to be up there. He has a remarkable recovery rate when hurt. He's also not the most skilled or powerful guy out there. He usually wins fights off stamina and simply wanting it more.
Re: If you had to pick 1, which boxer trained the hardest?
Ricky Hatton trained like a demon too. Mind he had to with the weight he used to put on.
Hopkins deserves a mention too. To operate at that level, at his age. Unbelievable. That's years and years of hard graft.
