He's not anywhere near the best no. Good win and a good performance but ability wise he is way behind the likes of Fury, Frampton and Brook.

Great win for Bellew. I knew little about Makuba, but from the build up he was getting I was expecting Boomer to get sparked. Fair play to the fella, he pulled it out when needed and just destroyed the guy.

Liked his outburst at Fish eyes. Classic.

I get the impression that he needs the big event, the pressure to bring out the best in him. Still no matter what happens now, he will earn a few quid and has been WBC Champion.

Poor Fast Car, he will have Boomer pestering him for PPV fights now.

I never saw this coming not after the Cleverly debacle and the first knockdown but Bellew showed real grit and determination to get that guy out of there 2 rounds later! And what a finish brilliant  all respect to Bellew for that he looked great.
Let him brag a bit he deserves it after that performance good on him :TU: :salut:
He's got the WBC strap so he is the man like it or not.

I like his confidence ,, but to be the best ,you have to beat the best ,, good performance against a guy who was limited , the guy was hyped up very succesfully to be a world beater , but he was'nt and never was.. Still good hype job and good performance . . But best,, i'll reserve my judgement and wait and see.

By the way , i take a lot of what he says has tongue in cheek ,,, although in typical scouse fashion , he will believe every word of what he says ,, and too be honest , i like him for it . Nothing like confidence , it will take him to the top of HIS LEVEL ,, doubt it will ever be a ALI .. TYSON level .. but he'll reach his own personal level... And for that , I dip my lid and say good on you . Aim for the stars .. at least you'll reach the moon ,, (HOPEFULLY )

The top of the cruiserweight division has a number of contenders for the spot as THE best, but Bellew has to be considered amongst them now.
I don't know if they will go for a routine defence first or straight into a danger fight but Usyk, Lebedev, Glowacki and Gassiev are also all right up there.
Perhaps a Huck fight might be a good next step?
Tactically, knock down aside, the Makabu fight was very good. He was sending in that left hook to the body repeatedly and whilst it didn't have visible impact on Makabu it was obviously doing the job as it turns out, opening up the head shot.

He said he was the best cruiser weight in the world, well we will see but it would be hard to discount him at the moment that's for sure.

Personally I think he went back to doing what he does best, forgetting the 12 rounds and going after his opponent to knock them out.

Sometimes you need to go for the points but other times you need to just put it all on the line. I was loving the body to head combos he was throwing.

It's a shame Ola Afolabi has retired, Lebedev would be a hard bout for Tony.

Lebedev is #1 for me but Bellew has a great chance against everyone at Cruiser if he fights like he did last night.

They needed someone with integrity, experience, intelligence, a true leader of men.

But they couldn't find one so gave the gig to Palooka instead.

Not for me, but credit where it's due he performed well last night after a shaky end to the first round.

The way he finished Makubu off was class.

And the new!

Lebedev is the man no question.

Then for me it has to be Glowacki for the Huck and Cunningham wins.

Huck still has a decent resume and could possibly beat Glowacki in a rematch.

After that I don't mind saying Bellew it's wide open.

I know a Usyk gets mentioned but he hasn't proved his top level credentials as a pro. But he will soon enough when he fights Glowacki.

That was a good win and he's in the mix, but I still rate him below Glowacki, Lebedev, and Huck. Cruiser is also a deep division with respect to the number of fighters who could hang with the guys at the top, and I could see others (like his mandatory Briedis, Usyk, Dorticos, etc.) taking him out.

The best guys in the division will take his shots much better and/or evade them much better than Makabu did, and they all have the power to hurt him. He still looks fragile at the weight to me, and aside from getting dropped with the first (only?) clean powershot Makabu landed, I thought he was bothered by a simple jab to the body prior to that. He also had a dizzy spell against Brudov, so I'm not sure how he will hold up when guys with heavy hands are landing on him and not folding under his powah; he does have a history of getting off the canvas to win (4 fights I believe), but never against the caliber of the elite guys at CW.

It's funny you mention the thing about the jabs. I thought he looked hurt a couple of times with java to the body and also a left hand to the body. He covered it up pretty well but I noticed it. He said he broke a rib in the build up to the fight though in the post fight press conference. Maybe it was because of that.

Anyone who saw him as an amateur either in the gym or fighting knew full well that his claim that dieting to light heavy sapped his power was true. He is a legitimate banger when he's carrying a bit of weight. He and the Congolese looked like different divions to me and I knew what was coming. Good on him. Will be interesting to see what happens now, there are better cruisers out there IMO but good matches.

He looks to be hitting harder at CW, but if you take his fights there on the whole he's not really the major puncher that the KTFO makes him seem.

I watched him get outhustled by Danny Price in the ams live. Was a scouse fest that night with David Price also on the bill!
He always looked ill at light heavy imo.

Well well well look what we have here

http://www.BS.com/drozd-exerci ... ew--105161

It was a great win last night but after reading this I can't class Tony as a world champion he should be declared Interim Champion.

When Drozd was made champion in recess I was under the impression it was a bad injury and he may retire. So looking like the WBC champion next for Bellew. After last night I'd like him to pull this off and with Drozd under Ryabinsky they will have to travel impossible for Hearn to win a purse bid here.

Let's ave it :bag:

I'd much rather see that than Enzo

They could continue the Rocky crap too if the fight is in Russia.
