I wouldn't say he was world class at light heavy for certain. Stevenson hammered him, Kovalev would destroy him in a round or two and the likes of Fonfara would probably beat him, probably Pascal also.
Cruiserweight is a less competitive and slightly easier division .................. IMO of course.

Stevenson is a P4Per with a P4P level of punching power.Ian1973 wrote:I wouldn't say he was world class at light heavy for certain. Stevenson hammered him,
That doesn't mean that Bellew wasn't world class.
That fight didn't happen, so how can you hold a fictional fight against him?Ian1973 wrote:Kovalev would destroy him in a round or two
"Probably", but the fights didn't happen, so we don't know.Ian1973 wrote:and the likes of Fonfara would probably beat him, probably Pascal also.

Bellew looked awful vs Makubu. Slow, ponderous, open. He caught the guy and finished him off, well done. We learned nothing new about him.Horse wrote:Yes.Riddick Blowe wrote:No.

Nah. Makubu showed potential in footage but he was never that hard to hit and I suspect Bellew really doesn't have as much POWAH as folk give him credit for.
I don't expect Makubu to come back and do anything to suggest he is a top contender in this division, maybe fringe. I think he will get stopped by someone as good or slightly worse than Bellew in the next few fights if he gets used by other promoters. But Bellew will have been too, and it will all have the effect of discrediting this supposed 'world level' matchup.

Bellew is a far more proven fighter than Joshua though, you'll admit that?Riddick Blowe wrote:Nah. Makubu showed potential in footage but he was never that hard to hit and I suspect Bellew really doesn't have as much POWAH as folk give him credit for.

In terms of records, which I know you view as the be all and end all, I guess you could say that, but I'm not sure why it's relevant.Horse wrote:Bellew is a far more proven fighter than Joshua though, you'll admit that?
On the eye test Bellew has proved enough to show he isn't any more than a mid-lower top ten guy at best.
Re: Bellew calling out Haye
You criticise a proven world class fighter like Bellew and talk down his best wins and then act like Joshua is God's gift to boxing when he has done bugger all.Riddick Blowe wrote:In terms of records, which I know you view as the be all and end all, I guess you could say that, but I'm not sure why it's relevant.
Records matter, Bellew is proven. Show some respect.

It's easy to look good against bums and far more difficult to look good against top level opposition.
Bellew doesn't fight many chumps, so he's never likely to be able to beat Joshua when it comes to the eye test.

Did Bellew ever look good against bums? He always looked the same from my memories. Anyway, it doesn't matter. Joshua will destroy some guy you deem 'worthy' and hopefully you can show some class about it.
besides, in Whyte Joshua has arguably a better win than any of Bellew's.

How about 2 of his 4 fights since cleverly are ranked at 98 and 163 in the world on box rec. Masternak isn't ranked top 20. The 2 guys he faced before cleverly are both ranked top 300 in the world.
That's 4 of 7 fights of guys who are ranked outside the top 90, cleverly who isn't ranked as cruiser and only 1 top 20 Boxrec fighter.
Bellew has been fed chumps since Stevenson KO'd his ass. I think he is still suffering if he is serious about moving up to heavy to fight haye.

Whyte is not even a proven English title level fighter.
Pathetic.

The only thing that would stop Whyte from 'proving' himself a fighter at least as good as Chilemba would be how badly he was crushed vs Joshua.Horse wrote:Pathetic comment.Riddick Blowe wrote:besides, in Whyte Joshua has arguably a better win than any of Bellew's.
