EA Fight Night
What a shite selection of fighters they have for round 3...Calvin Brock? What the fornicate is he doing there?
There are way too few historical fighters in there.
At heavyweight, no Holmes, Dempsey, Marciano, Foreman, Norton, Liston etc.
bunch of arse, why is it with every iteration of the game they have fewer and fewer fighters? There's only 27 bloody fighters now, spread between heavyweight to featherweight, how dissapointing.

It is a pity about the lack of fighters but boxing is not like the football or basketball licenses EA has bought up, I think with those you can buy one license to cover all names and teams but with boxing you have to negotiate with each individual fighter.
I'll probably be more into the online aspect anyway where my created fighter shall be blitzing up the ranks.

Ahh right. Think i'll wait for the PS3 then
Would be nice if they released the PS3 in March. Was thinking of getting an Xbox360 but then I seen this.
How powerful will the PS3 be?
On paper, the PS3 is 2x more powerful than the Xbox 360 and 15x more powerful than the Nintendo Revolution is predicted to be. It has a processing capacity of 2.18 TFLOPS, which is put into context when you realise the FASTEST computers in existence can only do 36 Terraflops. It is said to be 35x more powerful than the PlayStation 2 is.

There is a report from someone who has played some PS3 games first hand. According to them in their 5 page report there won't be much graphical difference between the PS3 and 360. The main advantage the PS3 has is that it can handle more things on the screen at once apparently.
I'm not so sure though, looked at some early footage from The Getaway game that is being developed for the PS3 and I've never seen London look so sexy.

The Xbox360 and the PS3 (none of the PS3 shots have been from a game being played, most of it is all pre rendered stuff and the rest is using the game engine but NOT actual in game shots considering the hardware isn't even finished) are extremely close in performance so why wait for a game that you wont get to play before 2007? The PS3 wont be released in the UK til around Mark 2007 if we are lucky which is a whole year after the same game would have been released on the other consoles
To be honest I've never thought much of EA's boxing games, they always seem to be half-arsed attempts. Look at the effort they put into Tiger and Madden etc and then check out FN round 2.. the create a boxer section is a joke compared to the editing you can do golfers in Tiger Woods. Hopefully they'll sort this out at last so it won't matter how about the choice of fighters..

There are a few PS3 games you can look at that are real time, the best of which is Metal Gear Solid 4 which looks fantastic. The Getaway is real time but it is just the scenery and traffic at the moment. It will be out before the end of 2006 in Japan and maybe America, I reckon Europe will have to wait till 2007.
Real Time and in game are two completely different things though.Cannibal wrote:There are a few PS3 games you can look at that are real time, the best of which is Metal Gear Solid 4 which looks fantastic. Real Time doesn't have to worry about AI and all the other processes that actual game does

The main problem with the Fight Night games has always been movement around the ring, it's far too sluggish, I found it was almost impossible to play stick and move as you couldn't outmanouvere your opponent.
Funnil enough KO Kings 2000 managed to do this quite well, you held down one of the trigger buttons and used the movement thumbpad and it moved you in bigger steps around the ring.
Fight night always seems to end with you having to stand toe to toe because you can't seem to move around the ring with any speed.

What I don't understand is why EA was able to have fighters like Marcinao, Ali Dempsey, Lamotta, Lopez etc for the Knockout boxing games and yet have so few great fighters for the Fight Night series... being a sad man I have almost all the boxing games and actually think that the Knockout games have the best playability... while fight Night is good theres far to much emphasis on power shots, especially Fight Night 2... where the opponents use the haymaker so much it gets boring... anyone know if Fightnight 3 has the bloody haymaker still?...

Exactly! I mean, for fucks sake, most all those guys are dead it's not like they are going to want paying is it?silkov wrote:What I don't understand is why EA was able to have fighters like Marcinao, Ali Dempsey, Lamotta, Lopez etc for the Knockout boxing games and yet have so few great fighters for the Fight Night series... being a sad man I have almost all the boxing games and actually think that the Knockout games have the best playability... while fight Night is good theres far to much emphasis on power shots, especially Fight Night 2... where the opponents use the haymaker so much it gets boring... anyone know if Fightnight 3 has the bloody haymaker still?...
I think think it was Knockout Kings 2001 which was about the best one, movement was good etc. The career mode was a bit pants, but it played better than Fight night.
The sad thing is, in terms of modelling, it's not like it takes much to build all those fighters. The bodies are all stock models, and it's just the faces that have to be adjusted.
I liked the fatigue bit in KO kings too, where your character would go all limp and you wouldn't be able to hold your arms up and you could be KO'd a lot easier. Something they seemed to lose when it came to Fight Night.

Emphasis seemed to be a lot more on combination punching in those games, and I also noticed they seem to have lost the special punch feature. When I played KO kings, Ali's jab and uppercut would do more damage
It would be good if in the training mode you could work on specific punches for specific fights, as this is something that mirros real life.
I'd still love to design a boxing game, when I worked in games never got the chance, it's still never been done right. The prince Naz game got the movement aspect right, but fornicate all else.
Yeah, the Knockout Kings was more realistic the way you had to pick your punches... when you got tired or hurt you could move arount etc till you recovered. One of the things I liked about Fight Night was the way you could see the last 5 fights of yourself and all the other fighters, I thought this would perhaps be expanded in Fight Night 2 but instaed its gone completely. Also the end of year awards was a good idea in Fight Night that has been taken out in Fight Night 2 for some reason. I think I actually prefer Fight Night to Fight Night 2... except for the fact that you can move up in weight in FN 2.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Exactly! If you could put together the best aspects of Knockout Kings and Fight Night then that would be a great game... unfortunately EA seems to often throw out the baby with the bath water when they change things about.
