I wasn't sure if Dudley's Darren McDermott had what it took to mount a serious challenge on the British Middleweight title when I first saw him beat Andy Halder to claim the Midlands Area title, but seeing him successfully make his first defence against good pro Michael Monaghan made my mind up for me.....he can definitely can be force on the domestic scene.
The improvements in just one fight were clear to see what becoming a champion has done for him, namely confidence in his ability. His workrate was phenomenal and there was no shortage in skill too against the very willing Monaghan, who just couldn't compete on level terms the further the fight went. Not that stopped Monaghan trying who was exceptionally brave until finish.
Now with only ten fights behind him I see a bright future for McDermott and an entertaining future for the fans who see him, provided he continues to tread the traditional route.

Macca really showed me what he was made of with his win over Halder - he is long armed with an incredilble work rate and a wide selection of shots at his disposal.
Missed last nites show but I am glad to hear he is showing progress. I am with you on this one Butch - McDermott is a name to be reckoned with on the domestic landscape. Onwards and upwards for Dudley's finest
