Believe relative Monte Masters snagged the heavyweight title but somehow it never led to a much-anticipated unification bout with Holmes.
Is Masters still available to reclaim his old title?
That was the WAA. World Athletic Association.
Yes I know. I really shouldn't know that.

Everyone on the list I see Briggs fought Briggs won.
Highly skilled boxers simply avoid things like this. I do think a good talent can make quite a jump by winning a tournament like this. From the names I've seen yet I expect Raphael to be the best.

they don't have a top 100 heavyweight on this list a few have been inactive my be not top 200.
Re: New WBF Heavyweight tournament
Im assuming this is the WBFed? As it appears as though Julius Long is fighting for the WBFoundation World title in Australia in a month.
As someone has mentioned winner gets the WBF title but more importantly a possible shot at a top 10 name.

Botha is one of my favourites. I'd like to see him get the win too...Gnome wrote:I would love the White Buffalo to turn back the clock and win this. At the very least, I hope he gets through the first couple of rounds - he has lost six in a row now (against good competition, at least - they had a combined record of 135-2!) and would love for him to retire on a high note.

Zumbano Love is the only one on that list we could call active.Gnome wrote:16 fighters will fight over four consecutive months in Jamaica starting on 28th November. Fighters already signed are:
Alonzo Butler, 29-3-1
Raphael Zumbano Love, 35-8-1
Jason Estrada, 20-5

Shawn Cox, 17- 5
Greg Brady, 5-1
Frans Botha, 48-11-3
Mike Sheppard, 21-17-1
No, it is not a world-class field and no one has terribly missed having a WBF champion - but I will be watching it. There should be some great scraps! Thoughts?
Still eight fighters to be named - who else might get the call-up?
the rest are semi-retired or dead

WBF? I'll be rooting for Botha, but his prime has come and gone about a decade ago.Gnome wrote:16 fighters will fight over four consecutive months in Jamaica starting on 28th November. Fighters already signed are:

Estrada might win this event as he can box some. With the talent this low, I hope Ortiz enters as no one will fight him.
Re: New WBF Heavyweight tournament
This thread was from 2014 and of course this tournament never happened. Botha is definitely retired now, read the other day he has some kind of business back in SA...

The WAA was re-formed in 1997 and their last heavyweight champion was Gene Pukall 2004-2010.
