Looks like warrington is ducking selby

Post by rio »

Despite saying couldn't fight selby due to it being a whole month before his wedding Warrington has changed his mind about fighting and will be out July 30th (despite his wedding) just not against Selby. He certainly talked a good game but this is a massive duck. Always said Selby would dissect him. You have believe even Warrington dosent think he can beat him after this.

Unfortunatley as long as Warrington is filling that arena vs Crabs they are making easy money wont put him in a fight he might lose until they have to!

As long as Warrington has the Leeds fans backing he will keep ducking Selby. He can fill the FD arena just on his own.

Selby would win that fight easily

Warrington is in the very enviable position of being a genuine box office star who can shift tickets galore . He can make hay while the sun shines and continue to pack out the Leeds arena.
Selby although world champ appears to have a rather limited number of supporters and as such regularly appears on the undercard.
He will certainly want the Warrington fight as that is where the most cash will be generated .

I don't think Warrington is ducking Selby at all as The fight really does need to be at Elland road and it appears that the window of opportunity to use the football ground has passed this year .lets hope both remain unbeaten to set up the clash there next year.
I believe the fight will happen , when it suits Warrington and his team and unlike others on here I give him a decent chance .

Warrington is right to duck Selby, he'd get smashed.

Huge let down from Matchroom.

The fights been talked about for nearly 2 years. Everyone agreed Warrington needed to 'catch up' to Selby and fight when the time was right.

The time was right this summer and I can't see this fight happening in the future.

I'd be amazed if they are both unbeaten this time next year as Selby is chasing the big names and Warrington could get found out with his lack of punching power.

On a sidenote I'm a huge Selby fan and watch him live regularly, the thought of watching him at Elland Road did make my bum a bit twitchy.

Maybe it's an expensive headache to put on? It would be a huge security nightmare with the very real prospect of Josh getting beat.

They will probably look to get Warrington to win a WBA sub belt and then it can be billed as a unification. Then sell it as pay per view at elland road.

I can't really think whose been on Warrington undercards before but having a couple of Hull fighters and some Brummies (as I remember it Gavin used to have some 'lively' support dunno if they still go) would this be about the first time there were reasonable amounts of non Leeds supporters in the Arena?

if Gavin was on the undercard to a warrington show that could be bad with Brum and Leeds together at one show...but Warrington v Selby would be a nightmare for sure based on the football element and that fact there is the actual rivalry between them both...recipe for disaster that I'm afraid and could be a reason for it not happening actually.

It doesn't need to be at Elland Road, they usually do about 7k in the arena and capacity is 12.5k. Fighting Selby would sell it out, it's the perfect size for that fight.

As for Warrington, this is a disgraceful duck, first it was his wedding, a story that Hearn is continuing with, now it's that Elland Road isn't available, the reality is that he just doesn't want the fight. Not sure how anyone that knows boxing could continue to support him after this.

To be honest if Selby fights Russel Jr in his next fight I honestly couldn't care about the Warrington fight. I would much rather see two of the top guys in the weight class fight each other.

The issue with the Warrington Selby fight is that this summer was the perfect time for it. Josh had a good fight last time out Selby just had a mandatory.

The part "I don't think Warrington is ducking Selby at all" is comical though. And the "genuine box office star" bit. And the bit about him having a "decent chance" of beating Selby.

Of course he's a box office star - very few boxers shift the sheer volume of tickets that Warrington does. That fact alone puts him in a very enviable position.
As such I think that Selby needs Warrington more than the other way round .

Warrington is no ducker , he's certainly not afraid to lose his 0 either . Earlier on his career he's fought and won in the away corner against unbeaten fighters for the English title ( male ) and The commonwealth ( mounienme - selbys only defeat ) in their own backyards.
They have common opponents apart from Mouniemne and Josh has not been "found out" in Selbys slipstream .
I do believe the fight will take at Elland Road next year to maximise the earnings for both fighters.
Warrington has been well managed and is an Improving fighter. He will take the fight when it's right for him and yes I do give him a decent chance .

Like you I agreed with most of the post, apart from the fact it started a little bit weakly, tailed off a bit in the middle, and the last part was a bit dubious

I'd been thinking they were overplaying his popularity in Leeds. Don't get me wrong, he's clearly an impressive ticket seller but there were noticeably loads of empty seats for the Amagasa fight. If it's 7k they're pulling in, then Crolla does more than that at the MEN. The way Matchroom go on you would think he was the second coming of Hatton.

As for the potential of an Elland Road fight, I must admit (as a massive Selby fan with a non-Yorkshire accent) I was thinking of giving it a swerve - not worth the inevitable bother. Selby schools him for 12 rounds anyway, wherever it happens.

nobody is overestimating his selling power. 7k against nobody's is impressive. He'll get the crowd if he fights Selby, bigger than Bellews.

Would imagine it's Hearn doing the ducking .

Wheels would come off the cash cow quite dramatically
