Demetrius Andrade v GGG
Demetrius Andrade v GGG
Andrade has expressed his wish to fight Golokin and he looks a real talent, could be the one that gives him real problems, Ward is moving up in weight for Kovalev, so Andrade could be the only one to really test Golokin, especially as Alvarez does not want the fight.
Re: Demetrius Andrade v GGG
That would be a great fight. I have a feeling that Golovkins camp wouldn't be quite as keen on the matchup though (despite their claims- not Golovkin himself- to the contrary).
Re: Demetrius Andrade v GGG
Good shout and a fight for the fans. Not as big a sell as Canelo but a smashing fight...
Re: Demetrius Andrade v GGG
Will Andrade be the new 154 guy who certain groups (usually composed of Haymon cheerleaders) moan about GGG ducking? Some people really don't like GGG for whatever reason, and whenever a specific type of fighter around the weight shows promise they latch onto them as a hope to beat Golovkin.
Andrade is good but I expected him to dominate Nelson, which is what Tony Harrison did for about nine rounds shortly before. With Andrade being a Haymon Showtime fighter I wouldn't get your hopes up for a GGG bout, and to be honest I'd rather see him and the other Haymon 154 guys sort out who is best.
Let's have a 4 man tournament with Lara, Andrade, J-Rock, and a Charlo (since they won't fight each other)

Re: Demetrius Andrade v GGG
Sometimes think that guys like Lara and Andrade say they're happy to fight GGG safe in the knowledge that there is very little chance of the fight getting made. Would probably be a much different story if they were actually at 160 like Quillin and Jacobs.

Kind of similar to how Adonis was quiet about fighting Kovalev when they were both with HBO, but is more vocal now that he's with Haymon.
Re: Demetrius Andrade v GGG
Andrade wants the GGG fight and has gone has far to call him a bitch, I think he wants the fight, especially as apparently Alvarez won't fight him.
Re: Demetrius Andrade v GGG
Think he is the one lad to give Golovkin trouble at middleweight . Be great to see it.
Re: Demetrius Andrade v GGG
I can understand it somewhat though. The over the top fandom can get slightly nauseating at times with some Golovkin supporters pretty much declaring he's the greatest fighter to have ever laced up gloves.crusader wrote:Will Andrade be the new 154 guy who certain groups (usually composed of Haymon cheerleaders) moan about GGG ducking? I do rate Andrade though- I think he can beat pretty much every 154 lb fighter and Canelo for that matter. Lara would be an intriguing bout although probably pretty dull.,
Re: Demetrius Andrade v GGG
To be fair, Kovalev and his team were somewhat guilty in that whole situation aswell. Obviously Stevenson dodged the fight when they were both on HBO (he said he wasnt happy with the money being offered for the fight at the time) but then when they were on separate networks- Duva pushed for the WBC to make Kovalev the mandatory challenger which they did and then it was going to be a purse bid situation which Stevenson and his camp were happy with. Duva then pulls out of the purse bid and says the fight can only be on HBO as Kovalev has an exclusive contract (although I'm pretty sure Kovalev's contract with HBO was up after being for 3 fights and Kovalev signed a new exclusive deal knowing this situation)crusader wrote:This.ElJefe wrote:Sometimes think that guys like Lara and Andrade say they're happy to fight GGG safe in the knowledge that there is very little chance of the fight getting made. Should Stevenson fight Kovalev on HBO if Haymon would be wiling to pay more for the fight to be on PBC? I don't think he can be blamed in the latter situation. I think they're both guilty of some blame myself.

Re: Demetrius Andrade v GGG
At this moment in time, anyone in the world weighing 11 stone 6 lbs or less, loses to Golovkin.
Re: Demetrius Andrade v GGG
To me Stevenson is more blameworthy considering he ducked the fight when they were on the same network and Haymon wasn't involved, in other words when there were the fewest number of obstacles in the way. Him jumping ship not only meant that the fight, which HBO had been pushing and wanted to stage next, was off, it created a new set of barriers that have played a role in the fight not getting made subsequently. Stevenson was laughably quiet about fighting Kovalev when they were with HBO, and I still recall an interview after one fight in which Stevenson was asked who he wanted next, with the interviewer obviously trying to lead him toward Kovalev (who fought earlier that night), and Stevenson ended up mumbling something about Hopkins and Froch.lefty wrote:To be fair, Kovalev and his team were somewhat guilty in that whole situation aswell. Kovalev's side has played a role in the fight not happening too, but I don't think it would've ever gotten to the pursebid situation had Stevenson not swerved the fight initially.
When did Stevenson leave HBO and when was the pursebid supposed to go ahead? PBC hadn't even started, Kovalev hadn't been made WBC mandatory, and I don't see how it would've been known to Stevenson that a situation would arise where him vs Kovalev could realistically go ahead with far more money on the table.Should Stevenson fight Kovalev on HBO if Haymon would be wiling to pay more for the fight to be on PBC? Despite Adonis being more vocal recently, I still don't buy that he actually wants a Kovalev bout or would've even taken one had Duva said okay to the pursebid. After his tough fight with Fonfara (who had just struggled with Campillo and at the time wasn't seen as a tougher challenger) he's fought dross, and I think he's very happy beating up weak opponents without having to face top opponents like Sergey. He's shown me very little ambition over the last few years and even Chilemba, a stay busy opponent for Kovalev, is better than anyone he's faced since Fonfara
Re: Demetrius Andrade v GGG
He was still with Haymon at that time though right or about to join him anyway? Isn't it possible that Haymon told him of his plans regarding putting on his own fights?crusader wrote:To me Stevenson is more blameworthy considering he ducked the fight when they were on the same network and Haymon wasn't involved, in other words when there were the fewest number of obstacles in the way. Re: Demetrius Andrade v GGG
Well if Haymon honestly informed him of his business matters then surely he knew of how difficult it would be to make fights with HBO fighters.
Adonis seems very happy beating up weak opposition. Some people complained about Kovalev fighting Chilemba, but Adonis hasn't even taken on someone of that level in a few years, and with him nearing 40 he may well be past his best if he ever steps up again.

Kovalev-Stephenson has so many barriers in the way. Promotion, managerial, television, money and most importantly, control.crusader wrote:Well if Haymon honestly informed him of his business matters then surely he knew of how difficult it would be to make fights with HBO fighters.

The G Train destroys all
Re: Demetrius Andrade v GGG
I personally think Kovalev is more rounded than Golovkin but I understand the appeal.
Re: Demetrius Andrade v GGG
You can definitely make a case, and IMO Kov has beaten better opposition too, though he's been down, was knocked out in the amateurs, and has looked more vulnerable at times than GGG has.lefty wrote:I personally think Kovalev is more rounded than Golovkin but I understand the appeal.
GGG is thus easier to sell as an unstoppable monster.

If anyone has a link to Andrade-Nelson by the way, could they possibly DM it? I still haven't seen the fight and can't find it on Youtube, etc.

GGG beat Kovalev in the amateurs, though Kovalev is a bigger man now.crusader wrote:You can definitely make a case, and IMO Kov has beaten better opposition too, though he's been down, was knocked out in the amateurs, and has looked more vulnerable at times than GGG has.lefty wrote:I personally think Kovalev is more rounded than Golovkin but I understand the appeal.

Yeah but that's amateur boxing to be fair. I think Korobov beat Lee in the amateurs aswell and got iced in the pro's.Anzi wrote:GGG beat Kovalev in the amateurs, though Kovalev is a bigger man now.crusader wrote:You can definitely make a case, and IMO Kov has beaten better opposition too, though he's been down, was knocked out in the amateurs, and has looked more vulnerable at times than GGG has.lefty wrote:I personally think Kovalev is more rounded than Golovkin but I understand the appeal.

Why's Andrade been so inactive ?

I don't think he's more well rounded, but he has better wins on his resume.lefty wrote:I personally think Kovalev is more rounded than Golovkin but I understand the appeal.
