I always wanted to see this fight that never happened.
They fought in identical timelines and had a fair amount of common opponents.
If I recall they didn't much care for one another....so much so they couldnt come to terms to fight. Strange that two people do not fight one another because of "bad blood". If true the Irony is amusing but probably not all that uncommon.

Renaldo Snipes vs Tex Cobb
Ill go with Tex by decision , Snipes could punch pretty good but Cobb had a chin. It would be close and if Cobb stayed fairly busy, he would probably take the dec. by outworking Snipes on the inside. But this one could be sloppy. But its an interesting fight too. Im surprised it never happened also.
I dont see Cobb stopping Snipes. Cobb had a brilliant chin, but Snipes chin was also very good, he was floored twice by Coetzee but went on to last the bout and win cotroversially. He also took all Duplooy's punches and Duplooy was so tired he quit so Snipes's chin won him that fight!
Snipes also took one of the best right hands Ive ever seen from Tyrell Biggs. If you think Biggs cant punch...watch that right he crashes on Snipe's nose! But Snipes got up and went on to last the distance.
Ill have to say Snipes decision.

This would almost certainly go the distance. Cobb had a great chin and Snipes could punch, he wasn't big enough of a puncher to stop Cobb. On the other hand, Snipes had a good chin and Cobb didn't really hit that hard. He threw a lot of arm punches that didn't have a lot on them.
The biggest difference was that Snipes was much better defensively than Cobb. The most likely outcome is Snipes by decision.

I don't think Snipes could knock out Cobb, but I don't think Cobb could knock out Snipes either. Cobb faced such men as Ken Norton, Larry Holmes, Michael Dokes and never even hit the canvas---he even faced the hardest hitting Heavyweight in history Earnie Shavers and beat Shavers by TKO.
And myself, as much as I like Randall Tex Cobb, I don't believe he could have beaten Snipes---Snipes wasn't a great fighter but he was a helluva lot better boxer than Cobb was, much faster and knew how to punch.
Cobb, as evident in his fight with Shavers, was more or less an "arm puncher" where there was no body weight behind his hooks, so the effects of his punches were very minimal.
Tex could stay in there the distance, but in my mind Snipes would bring home a decision, Cobb was just too sloppy and slow, despite being the toughest bastard I seen boxing.

I think the word was motherfuckers.Decagon wrote:Actually, the two almost got in a fight at a formal dinner, where the best heavyweights of the past ate with the best heavyweights of the time. Joe Louis was there; so were Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Larry Holmes and Joe Frazier. Snipes and Cobb were there as well. True to form, Tex Cobb got up, and said, "I can't believe I'm sitting here with some of the baddest n_____s ever."
Snipes took offense, and said, "I'm not going to sit here and let you call me a n_____."
Without blinking, Cobb said, "relax. I wasn't talking about you."
